Honestly, this fella should seriously be considered. He certainly gets my vote! The first thing he has on his side is his youth. He will be able to withstand the physical demands of playing at Herb's level every night and also the exhaustive nature of touring. I imagine Sir Les and Sir Larry would help groom him as fame and recognition would immediately occur. Second, he's clearly a "player". Check out some of his other videos. Weckl, Salsa grooves, Rush act, etc. All of these comprise Herb's playing to a degree. Even his Ludwig snare shootout video is one of the best of YT. Best of luck Ryan!
Not sure about that "fame and recognition" that you speak of. He would be the second drummer of a band that peaked in the 90s. Lol. Still a very good choice if Les is actually going to pick an unknown drummer. I'm guessing that this is all for show and he already knows who he wants, just like Billy Corgan
I've been learning Primus songs for 25 years. Herb was my first major influence and I learn't every album note for note. Even played Jellikit for my audition piece to get into Music Uni back in the 90s. Your audition is the first one that I can say is true to the spirit and approach of Herb :)
I have been playing the drums for 40 years. I am currently in 5 tribute bands, 1 cover band, and my original band. I have heard, written, and played it all. But in all my years of covering Primus tunes, I couldn't quite capture Tim's sound and flow. If I closed my eyes while playing this video, I'd swear it was Herb playing the drums. Great job!
I pride myself as someone who tries to play Herb's stuff note for note. You my friend did just that. Even intentionally playing Tim's little left in mess up on the hats. Excellent cover of the best Primus drumming songs ever.
I've watched probably around 7 or so of these tryouts. I wasn't gonna click on this one cuz I thought it would be like the rest. However I'm so glad I did! Great song! Ur kit sounds amazing and u killed it! My favorite one I've heard!
I saw herb in 1991 for Frizzle fry and I've seen every tour he's been on since and you my friend are the best drummer I have heard yet you really Encompass herbs playing now you've got to be yourself I understand that but he will always be the maestro and you've got the best Groove and feel and really good chops. honestly it's too bad he's not still in the band I'm still pretty shook up about it because honestly I think he's the best drummer the past 30 years and he's been a massive influence on my drumming ever since I've heard and saw the John the Fisherman video in 1990 in 8th grade on Headbangers ball. I don't think there's a drummer that's been a bigger influence on me the past 30 and when I heard his drumming for the first time it reinvigorated my love for drums even though I had only been playing for 2 years is influence was phenomenal. Not a better drummer the past 30 years. he layers drumming very well he's very linear and his style of play has always spoken to me and he is an incredible fan of Neil Peart and I saw him as well on Rush roll the bones tour think about that 3 years after he started playing in Primus and you're already on tour with Alex Geddy and Neil.. but that show opening for Rush was at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans and I also saw them at Lollapalooza for sailing the Seas of cheese . but the best show I've ever seen Primus do as a band was pork soda at State Palace Theater in 1993 in New Orleans they were absolutely on fire during that tour and I believe Tim had just gone back to Tama Drums he was with pork pie percussions during sailing the Seas.... but the Drone said he used during pork soda was massive and I guess the other tour that blew my mind was recent the desaturating Seven tour which was absolutely out of this world Amazing by all three members and that was at Civic Theater in New Orleans. And of course the tribute to rush and Neil at the House of Blues was phenomenal. Come out and play a set of your Classics and then a second set devoted to rush the complete farewell to Kings album. He came out and played a tama replica of Neil's 77 slingerland kit "blakula"! The Nostalgia A Night to Remember. They nailed farewell to Kings!
I'd love to see you as part of the band. You have the effortlessness that many people lack. Excellent drum sound as well! Very curious to hear your take on My Name is Mud or DMV.
…F**kn A dude, you brought it. This is one of my favorite pieces to jam along with. Your playing, kit sound & the production quality is on it. Well done
That was awesome! One of the best I've heard (and I've listened to alot!) Great sounding kit, tight playing..... All around around great. Best of luck, brother!
Wow Awesome job and good pick. I thought your kit sounded great and after seeing some other videos it's clear why. Free plug ahead Anyone associated with 2112 is going to have an awesome sounding kit. My drummer gets all his gear there and all his kits sounds phenomenal as well.
Love the intro. You get points just for that! Really great playing. Drums sound amazing but a lot of that is your playing. Some people don't understand that. Plus, Yamaha is the best, lol!
A true exercise in drumming. Stick to that amazing original established beat & just explore from there. Primus wrote a classic just off that. As well as many others. Good luck filling them shoes my drumming brothers!!
If I had a place to set up my drums I would try out for Primus as well I mean why not but I just don't have anywhere to set them up. Maybe I'll just set them up in my condo and use my vater bamboo splash sticks. My neighbors would not like it. It's worth it😅
Your cymbal models meld great with this Primus tune. Especially the briallant finish crash above the hi hat and that china next to it. Though all of the cymbals sound perfect. I think that is an outlooked thing that can bring about a drummers playing. Cymbal choice can fit or not fit with the music. Finding of the right cymbals as well as the proper usage of them and when to use them and fit them in. I have heard many really good drummers who will sadly use cymbals that just simply clash with the music they play instead of working within the music and enhancing the sound of it.
@@tweevers2 Thanks man! I take a lot of pride in my cymbal choices and I must admit that I'm spoiled by @2112percussion_ That crash above the hats is an 18" Paiste Traditionals Thin Crash and to the left of it is a 19" Sabian Paragon Chinese.
Bro u just got the job if it were up to me. Motherfucker played the Electric Grapevine like he wrote it. You win brother. Finally someone with the "Fire"
@@JaydepoolMusic my studio is built around an Apogee Symphony and a bunch of transformer-based mic pres. APIs on the kick, a Stam 1073 for the snare, 90s Dakings for overheads, and Warm Audio 412s (API clones) for the toms. I've been building and modifying this rig for like fifteen years now. Thanks!
Perfectly executed! But if this was an audition he should've learned the song. Keeping his eyes glued to the transcription throughout the whole ordeal looks really bad!

Great pick of a song, and you nailed it…
Tight and smooth drumming, beautiful kit too.
The sound of this drum is surreal! It has to be you.
one of my favorite Primus songs, great job
Best one I've seen so far. You definitely have the chops to fill that seat.
One of the best auditions I have seen. Fluid and with great groove.

whoever fields first round of these is going to have a field day on your post history. So much talent, man. good luck!
Nice work!!! Sounds great I gave this one a shot too, you crushed it!
I enjoyed that. thanks for putting that together
Nice drum kit. You nailed it bro!!
Wow best audition I heard, drum sound so far closest herd to the Ol Herb 🌿
Imho one of the best, if not the best, auditions so far. Wonderful sounds too (man, that Ks are magnificent!!!). Good luck from Italy.
Those Yammys sound so good! Still have my Birch Custom Absolutes because I can’t find a better feeling kit! You did Herb proud.

Probably the best version of that song I’ve seen so far. Your kit sounds great also. Next you need to do Eleven.
Just the smile on the thumbnail gets you the gig. Good jammin too
@@TheGarageBandSyndicate That's the smile of relief. Relief that I finally got a good take! Seriously, this tune kicked my ass!
great song choice, and very well done!
Just the right amount of sizzle from the hats- great mix dude, and that snare! yooooooooo
What can I say? I love heavy hihats, and these 90s Ks are the best.
great choice of song and great playing
Excellent! Best one I've seen yet. Finally an appropriate kit for Herbs songs too!
Great work!

Well done Sir!!
Wow man. Well done. I had no idea it was played like that. Hypnotic.
My lazy ass wouldve done all kick 😅 no floor tom.
Nice!!! Well done!!!
best ive seen thus far
Certainly not an easy song to play with the offbeat hats & the interplay between the floor tom and snare, you did it justice. Subbed!
