Honestly, this fella should seriously be considered. He certainly gets my vote! The first thing he has on his side is his youth. He will be able to withstand the physical demands of playing at Herb's level every night and also the exhaustive nature of touring. I imagine Sir Les and Sir Larry would help groom him as fame and recognition would immediately occur. Second, he's clearly a "player". Check out some of his other videos. Weckl, Salsa grooves, Rush act, etc. All of these comprise Herb's playing to a degree. Even his Ludwig snare shootout video is one of the best of YT. Best of luck Ryan!
Not sure about that "fame and recognition" that you speak of. He would be the second drummer of a band that peaked in the 90s. Lol. Still a very good choice if Les is actually going to pick an unknown drummer. I'm guessing that this is all for show and he already knows who he wants, just like Billy Corgan
@@SpaceJockey805The SECOND drummer?!! Better check your sources. … more like the 4th if he were to contribute to an album & officially around the 6th or 7th all time. Curveball was the 1st.
I've been learning Primus songs for 25 years. Herb was my first major influence and I learn't every album note for note. Even played Jellikit for my audition piece to get into Music Uni back in the 90s. Your audition is the first one that I can say is true to the spirit and approach of Herb :)
Herb was/is also a huge influence on my playing. Been lucky enough to see him/them play live too. His solo's during "Tommy the Cat" were always incredible live. I remember being so happy when I got all of "Suck On This" nailed beginning to end. "Eleven" is my God-tier Drum life goal 😁
You really captured Tim's "orchestral" approach to the drums. And being able to play that pattern for six and a half minutes without wavering or wobbling is definitely something they're going to want to see in a touring drummer.
My favorite Primus audition so far. He has this organic quality to his playing that I think fits well with their sound. Sounds more than just a session drummer.
This is the best song to use as a test imo. It’s got the right amount of skill and stamina over time that would be noticeable if you quiffed. You’re nuts for trying. But clearly you can pull it off. Awesome! You got my 10 upvotes just for song choice.
I’ve seen tons of these auditions and I always end up back here. This cats got my vote by far. Chops, feel is perfect, calm, not smashing through the drums. Seems effortless. Great job man!
I’ve been listening to these with closed eyes, and this guy is tight, organic, and absolutely locked in with whatever that bass player’s name is. 10/10 would recommend.
One of the best things I've ever seen live was Primus performan this song with original drummer Jay Lane sometime in the last 10 years (the old memory ain't what she used to be.) I mean absolutely impeccable performance. I was hoping when I read Tim quit that Jay would jump back with em. Was in Providence Rhode Island.
This is just good. The playing is on point, and the kit is Primus-worthy, sounds great, and is well-recorded. I've watched a lot of the Primus audition videos and this one definitely stands out. Love the attitude at the beginning. "Everyone else is doing it, so why can't I?" Well done.
There have been some great submissions, but THIS performance feels really natural and captures the time feel perfectly. I feel like you could jump on the tour next week.
Such style, such bravado, such demure! Feel is the hardest thing to explain, but you, sir, have it, and you hold it well. I'm probably biased as Over The Electric Grapewine is one of my absolute favourites, but my Primus-injected soul feels this.
Dude I have watched dozens of these, Tim was and has been my biggest influence. This hands down is the best audition I have seen so far! Killed brother!!!
I've watched probably around 7 or so of these tryouts. I wasn't gonna click on this one cuz I thought it would be like the rest. However I'm so glad I did! Great song! Ur kit sounds amazing and u killed it! My favorite one I've heard!
I pride myself as someone who tries to play Herb's stuff note for note. You my friend did just that. Even intentionally playing Tim's little left in mess up on the hats. Excellent cover of the best Primus drumming songs ever.
That was awesome! One of the best I've heard (and I've listened to alot!) Great sounding kit, tight playing..... All around around great. Best of luck, brother!
love herb. A great influence and inspiration for me. this song is always difficult to keep time through the whole piece and not flub a note. You absolutely nailed it!
You're the only drummer whose audition video caught my attention so far. Man, you've got the full Herb vibe down! Seems like you're fully prepared to play a gig with primus right away! And that drumkit is simply gorgeous!
Great playing my friend! As a fellow drummer, I appreciate your feel and accuracy. I'd never heard this song before- has a very Tool-esque feel. Hope you get a shot at the spot!
…F**kn A dude, you brought it. This is one of my favorite pieces to jam along with. Your playing, kit sound & the production quality is on it. Well done
I saw herb in 1991 for Frizzle fry and I've seen every tour he's been on since and you my friend are the best drummer I have heard yet you really Encompass herbs playing now you've got to be yourself I understand that but he will always be the maestro and you've got the best Groove and feel and really good chops. honestly it's too bad he's not still in the band I'm still pretty shook up about it because honestly I think he's the best drummer the past 30 years and he's been a massive influence on my drumming ever since I've heard and saw the John the Fisherman video in 1990 in 8th grade on Headbangers ball. I don't think there's a drummer that's been a bigger influence on me the past 30 and when I heard his drumming for the first time it reinvigorated my love for drums even though I had only been playing for 2 years is influence was phenomenal. Not a better drummer the past 30 years. he layers drumming very well he's very linear and his style of play has always spoken to me and he is an incredible fan of Neil Peart and I saw him as well on Rush roll the bones tour think about that 3 years after he started playing in Primus and you're already on tour with Alex Geddy and Neil.. but that show opening for Rush was at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans and I also saw them at Lollapalooza for sailing the Seas of cheese . but the best show I've ever seen Primus do as a band was pork soda at State Palace Theater in 1993 in New Orleans they were absolutely on fire during that tour and I believe Tim had just gone back to Tama Drums he was with pork pie percussions during sailing the Seas.... but the Drone said he used during pork soda was massive and I guess the other tour that blew my mind was recent the desaturating Seven tour which was absolutely out of this world Amazing by all three members and that was at Civic Theater in New Orleans. And of course the tribute to rush and Neil at the House of Blues was phenomenal. Come out and play a set of your Classics and then a second set devoted to rush the complete farewell to Kings album. He came out and played a tama replica of Neil's 77 slingerland kit "blakula"! The Nostalgia A Night to Remember. They nailed farewell to Kings!
This is hands down my favourite Primus audition video, I genuinely think you should do some more songs to submit. You have the best feel of all the auditions I've watched.
@masecardrums Eleven has always always been a firm favourite, Golden Boy is my favourite groove of the Brain era, and Lee Van Cleef for Jay Lane. Go for it man!
Wow, wow, wow! Amazing, man! Very good choice of composition, nice angles (top is my favorite), video and audio editing. A very nice sounding and cool looking drum set. Impeccable and confident performance. I enjoyed it a few times already!
I'd love to see you as part of the band. You have the effortlessness that many people lack. Excellent drum sound as well! Very curious to hear your take on My Name is Mud or DMV.
Clean!! Plus i respect any drummers that hold onto octobans! Love em but a pain to mount with limited space. I always just set up the roto toms. Hope ya get your shot bro!!!
I have been playing the drums for 40 years. I am currently in 5 tribute bands, 1 cover band, and my original band. I have heard, written, and played it all. But in all my years of covering Primus tunes, I couldn't quite capture Tim's sound and flow. If I closed my eyes while playing this video, I'd swear it was Herb playing the drums. Great job!

Youth as Les and Ler have? 😂
Yeppers I like this dude
I concur. Has anyone else used this song? It’s the perfect one to prove you’ve got the ginseng drummer in your pocket. And he nails it.

This statement also helps explain how/why Alexander lost his passion for touring with Primus.
Right on. He’s also not playing it exactly perfect, he’s tilling some new soil here. That’s a refreshing shift from the rest of the pack.
I think tim plays like bozzio
This is the only audition I've seen that took a risk with the song choice and he absolutely crushed it.
My favorite Primus audition so far. He has this organic quality to his playing that I think fits well with their sound. Sounds more than just a session drummer.
Tight and smooth drumming, beautiful kit too.
Concordo. Non vorrei giudicare se sia il migliore per ora, (uno dei migliori di sicuro), ma il kit è il più azzeccato che ho visto
This is the best song to use as a test imo. It’s got the right amount of skill and stamina over time that would be noticeable if you quiffed. You’re nuts for trying. But clearly you can pull it off. Awesome! You got my 10 upvotes just for song choice.
Best one I've seen so far. You definitely have the chops to fill that seat.
I’ve seen tons of these auditions and I always end up back here. This cats got my vote by far. Chops, feel is perfect, calm, not smashing through the drums. Seems effortless. Great job man!
That was pretty in the pocket IMHO! Look how comfortable he looks.
The sound of this drum is surreal! It has to be you.
I’ve been listening to these with closed eyes, and this guy is tight, organic, and absolutely locked in with whatever that bass player’s name is. 10/10 would recommend.
💯 Give this guy the gig. He's got not only the talent, but "the vibe".
Totally
Heartbroken that Herb left but I am very into this!! Such good sound and feel.

There have been some great submissions, but THIS performance feels really natural and captures the time feel perfectly. I feel like you could jump on the tour next week.
You hit the nail on the head. This is a Performance.
You're clearly one of the best auditions but with the + - impressive sound / playing / feelings
Such style, such bravado, such demure! Feel is the hardest thing to explain, but you, sir, have it, and you hold it well. I'm probably biased as Over The Electric Grapewine is one of my absolute favourites, but my Primus-injected soul feels this.

As far as I’m concerned, you are an absolute contender keeping that be flawlessly. Awesome job man!
nailed it! Herb would approve. And you got the kit ready to go! Hope ya get it, man!
oh and great mix! Sounds fantastic.
Excellent cover of a perfect groove. You play so relaxed and in control. The pocket is all yours.

While I am going to be throwing my hat in the ring for this audition this has to be the best one i have seen yet, Kudos sir!
Didn’t know Prímula songs were like that. You killed it! Not only that, you look so comfortable playing it.
One good thing about this audition process is the huge range of different songs people are doing.
Its a dream come true ive been trying to find good primus drum covers since like 2010
Best gear and performance so far...sign this Playa up!
great choice of song and great playing
you really nailed this. Relaxed, great snare sound, consistent, really good feel/groove. It really sits in the track well.
Just the smile on the thumbnail gets you the gig. Good jammin too
@@TheGarageBandSyndicate That's the smile of relief. Relief that I finally got a good take! Seriously, this tune kicked my ass!
killer snare sound and cymbal selection. Really killer mix too. Bad ass
Those Yammys sound so good! Still have my Birch Custom Absolutes because I can’t find a better feeling kit! You did Herb proud.
