@bennisles9521 This book is from a time when teachers seemed to be all on one accord. I remember various books and educational things being used to teach us kids. Another one, my entire school district read Holes because Louis sent us free books. Then we went to see the movie by the bus load from all different schools. This book was the first book other than where the red fern grows that made me genuinely love reading. Nothing like it now. Books don't trend for kids. I used to read for hours every day.
I read this story and saw the 1960's movie about the book in school more than 20yrs ago now!, and I had always wished I would've found or made my ownhollowed out tree I could've called home as scary as it was/would become!. The book was and is still one of my favorites!.
I’m only 20 years old and I remember reading the book over and over again when I was a kid. I love how it’s gone through every generation of elementary school since it came out!
Listening at 37. I have the hardback trilogy edition of this series. I introduced my kids to Sam Gribley, Frightful, and the hollowed out tree in the Catskill Mountains. I've been looking for The Adventures of Dixie North for years and have yet to find it here.
I remember reading this book as kid as part as a summer assignment. Of course I read it late in the summer right before school was about to start because I put it off till the very last minute. Every summer think of this book around the same time of year. I’m 40 now and I think I’m going to give it a listen
This and The Hatchet always stayed with me. Great books.
4th grade or 5th grade perhaps, this book holds a special place in my heart.
Same here. Round about 4th grade is when I read it. I'm now 37 years of age coming back to it.
I also read this book in grade 4. I hold this story quite dearly to me, now 29.
