Nice storytelling gents, I enjoyed listening. I have a ‘70s 30.30 ‘94 previously a work gun owned and carried many years by a cowboy named Ernie.

My first deer rifle was a pre 64 Win mod 94 my dad bought me. I am 64 yrs old now and own 4 , 30-30's , 3 marlins , one win, and a win .32 spl , I own several other lever guns, but the Win mod 94 has always been my favorite ! We were all trained and taught differently, but I was taught to load and put on safety because of noise and why would there be a safety and not use it ?

One of the good old boys.Dad introduced me to hunting when I was 14 with his single shot 22 couey.(please excuse my spelling). Bagged my first ruffed grouse grouse in the forests of British Columbia.I am almost 70 this October.

I grew up hunting deer and hogs and bobcats and turkeys in rural central Florida with a 1957 MODEL 1894 .30-30. I was hunting with it at age 13 in the 60's until I turned 18 and joined The Marines. I always hunted with a round already chambered...the last thing I wanted was my prey hearing me cycle a lever action rifle before I got the front sight on them (a U.S. Recon Marine Scout Sniper vet. and now retired Aerospace Engineer with a large American defense contractor's Missile Systems company.

I have a Winchester 1894 in 32 special. Made in 1916. If only it could talk about all the hunts it’s been on.

I have one and it’s a tack driver. Best rifle ever with blade sights.

Glad you enjoy the stories. I view my channel as 3 parts... informative/educational, hopefully somewhat entertaining and third a bit of preservation of history.

🔹1928🔹 was the year my 30-30 Winchester was made.
Back in 1964,when I was 14 ..... a farmer walked into my grandpa's Gun Store in the Adirondacks of NY and sold that there 30-30 for $15
After he walked out I bought the rifle for $15 ~ and it became my daily shooter for hunting rogue woodchucks.
All of the woodchucks were one-shot kills 💥
Some 60 years later I still have the rifle and it shoots just fine !

    PS ~ I absolutely loved the interview with your father-in-law ! I rarely,if ever,have seen such an interview on TH-cam !

Trivia ~ My grandpa was an Olympic Pistol Shooter .... won the NY State Pistol Champioship for 7 consecutive years ... then he won the US Pistol Championship in 1933.
My dad was his gunsmith / re-loader and driver to the gun matches ie Camp Perry Ohio.
I started shooting at 11 with the YMCA of all places .... Boy Scouts at 12 ..... and was the Treasurer of my high school gun club at 14.
My sons are both Firefighters 🚒🚒 with the oldest also working as a SWAT Medic 💥who happens to be one of their best shooters ~ taught by his dad 😊

I have one from 1920 that someone years ago branded a B into the stock. My dad bought it in 1968.

I started with an Ithaca .22 single shot lever action . Anybody knows about guns they will know what I am talking about. I got it at the age of 12. My dad let me hunt with his rifle at 6 years old (ALONE). He said if I was alone I would be safe with anyone else kid play would start and someone would get hurt. The last thing I wanted was to was lose my gun rights. I would hide from my cousin who lived 1/4 mile up the road because i didn’t want to lose my gun rights. My father told me”, If he ever saw me point my gun at another human being,if he lived to be 100 years old he would see to it personally that I NEVER own another gun.I AM NOT KIDDING ,HE MEANT EVERY WORD , BELIEVE ME!!!! I got Better gun safety training that you could ever get in the military or police training. My dad was RELENTLESS. BUT I DO KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A FIREARM SAFELY. GOD BLESS YOU DADDY, I’M FOREVER GRATEFUL!!!!!!!!!!

My first rifle was a 1962 model 94. I bought it new and hunted for 2 years with it. It was horribly inaccurate and prone to malfunction. My grandfather gave me his old rifle that was marked 30 govt 06. I recently gave it to my grandson. I sold the model 94 after 3 years. No regrets.

Interesting how sometimes guns are like trying on shoes. Some just don't fit quite right.
