      Timefor Buakaw to retire though. He's alredy had well over 200 fights. His joints are doubtless in deep trouble already. Hopefully he's financially ready to move on.

    Elbows are so cheap in competitive fighting... Effective and painful, indeed, but cheap.
    If elbows are allowed, why cover fists with gloves?
    There's no reason to allow elbows while simultaneously having rules to fight gloved.

    • @Liri31ner
      @Liri31ner 10 ปีที่แล้ว +261

      They don't cover fists with gloves for their opponents sake... their hands would get completely fucked.

      William Foss *Handwraps*: ever heard of it?

    • @wargthe1st319
      @wargthe1st319 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ***** So do elbows in the head, dude.
      Have you ever took an elbow to the head?
      They are certain to make you bleed, break your nose or break your jaw: it will only depend where it hits.
      I mentioned about handwraps because William Foss mentioned that the use of gloves is "not to protect the integrity of the opponent, but to protect the puncher's hand from cuts, bruises and fractures": handwraps can do that to a certain extent while maintaining the hard traumatic power of bare knuckles.
      I repeat: if there is reason to allow elbows in competitive fighting, there's *absolutely no reason* to fight gloved.

    • @WeatheringTheStorms
      @WeatheringTheStorms 10 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I completely agree with you on this. I think they use gloves to protect their hands and wrists from breaking during high impact punches. That's the best logic I can think of for the use of gloves in mma.. haha...

    • @reinforcer9000
      @reinforcer9000 9 ปีที่แล้ว +111

      different rule different game

    • @xxstarforbrianxx
      @xxstarforbrianxx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      ***** It is a matter of different rules - different game. UFC allows fighting on the ground whereas boxing usually does not.

    • @xxstarforbrianxx
      @xxstarforbrianxx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Again, that's because one sport allows fighting on the ground and the other doesn't. Nothing to do with who does what or respect. MMA fighters strike knocked down opponents to force the ref to call the bout or knock them out cold to ensure their victory since it isn't illegal. Boxers are not allowed to strike downed opponents so they usually back off.

    • @reinforcer9000
      @reinforcer9000 9 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      ***** I think you're assuming that they choose to continually strike KO'd opponents, which is not the case. Because UFC allows ground fighting, fighters are trained to attack people who go down, and especially during adrenaline rush, they are not so keen on discerning whether they are KO'd or not, just that they are on the ground, because that's what they're trained to do. If one hesitates, one puts victory on the line. And since the rules state victory is not clear until the ref calls it, they need to keep attacking. They can have the utmost respect for each other, but since that's what they're trained to do, it actually IS a matter of different rules (i.e. UFC allows ground fighting).

    • @solidzuk921
      @solidzuk921 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** strikes that continue after KO during MMA ground game are not intentional its simply a case where the parameters of the sport make it harder to recognize the difference between a knock down and KO during a fight and hesitation could cost you a win. If it were possible to KO opponent and they remain standing strikes after the KO would be in muay thai Fights to. That said im not ignorant to the fact that the ground game does allow D**ks throw more than needed to win. the respect or lack of exists in every sport, Muay Thai lacks publicity so you will see less negative aspects regardless.

    I'm Thai and I would say that German fighter are remarkable and that spinning elbow are absolutely beautiful! I'm learning muay boran (traditional muay thai) I would say its deadlier than sport muay thai like this but I'm not mean to underestimate sport muay thai its okay but some arts of muay thai are lost and forgotten sadly because it's too dangerous,any martial arts in this world can be use and I think we should respect in their arts of fighting,if you want to tell some martial art are bad.Blame who practice it don't blame the arts.

      Before they use rope, they have soft smooth rope inside and rough and hard rope outside and it's canceled because there is a figther die after being hit with it so that why they have to wear glove and no ball kicking, headbutting, takedown, etc. It was much different back then

    I have seen a lot of people in comment saying that if you get close to a Muay thai fighter you can do anything, "their main weapon are the legs". This is completely wrong, Muay thai is the art of eight limb, and one of their deadliest weapon is rather the elbow. I am a thai guy and have trained in the arts since I was young.
    Seen others saying it's not effective in street fight as you use legs, eg. you can swings your leg like that in street fight. Again, in Thailand, fighters know that close distance is an elbow zone, thus you might see a lot of thai fighters measuring the opponent reach and plan their strategy out, skimming opponents with kicks, theep, or just hand push.
    Please dont forget about elbows and knees they are also the main weapons in Thai Arts. Muay boran, main emphasis on Look Mai, and Mae Mai (Minor and Major techniques) focus a lot of the use of elbows. Punching and Roundhouse kickings are really minor.

      thats true. For me is Muay Thai the effectivst for street fights against anyone. I training now muay thai since 2 years. I was before that a boxer thats why i combine muay thai with good punching power.

      I agree with you getting close to a muay fighter is a wrong idea they fight close quarters elbows/knees. but that being said check the videos on (krav maga / systema) you may change your mind?? me my self would learn wing Chun/ muay Thai/ systema

    • @racheldaniela769
      @racheldaniela769 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do agree, but mixing is the best, even in the Thai army Muay Thai is not really major, it's rather a mixed of Systema, Aikido. But, it's perhaps due to the fact that they are basically using weapon lol, not hand to hand combat.
      I was in the Thai Army for two year(4months in actual term) and tried the special force defense class and the Civilian defense class, they mainly use Aikido as a basis mixing with more practical takedown methods and some Muay Thai just for the Arts aspect.

    Does anyone else think its funny that Enriko Kehl here has two fantastic KO's via spinning back elbows yet when fought against Buakaw & began to try them (as well as spinning back fists and some desperation attacks) Buakaw smiled that evil grin & elbowed more than I've ever seen him in any fight?
    He also cut Kehl open to end the fight via elbow to a humiliated looking Kehl.

      StrangeDeimos The 2 thai's KOed by Kehl via back/spinning elbows weren't bad fighters, well one is debatable with a 65w/30l record. Other bigger guy was ranked above Kehl, 13th in division, at 8th topking boxing fighter/name iirc- half his wins were KO's so obviously a risk taker which is quite rare for thais but they don't travel all that well ;)....just as its difficult in 30 degrees 90%+ humidity in the lumpinee etc for westerners. Both occurred in Germany & yep were indeed 5 rd fights. Kehls reach/build help a lot in his technique. Buakaw is a wily fox seemed to have a point to prove to Kehl. You never see Buakaw start with risky-dangerous/high damage techniques but he certainly answers them...

      it's not that he favors them, it's a defensive move. if you notice, he went for that chin blow with his left elbow, when that missed he was wide open for the other guy to start wailing on him. so, he placed himself in his space, minimizing any damage he would have taken from hits, then pulled the spinning high elbow.

    having done several Muay Thai fights in my younger years, theres nothing like an elbow to the treehouse. And it doesnt matter what this art does vs that art...its irrelevant. Muay Thai is Muay Thai, karate is karate and MMA is MMA..its the respective skill training and experience of the fighters that make them work, based on the situation.

      go iBass I think he was disqualified because he didn't show up. The match was a tie and the organizers decided to have one more match (out of the contract) for the sake of the bets. Buakaw didn't agree and left.

      @hAxiBass 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but for me enriko is the winner :)
      Its pretty lame from the current world champion to piss off
      A real champiom would fight till the end.
      Very embarrassing isnt it?

    • @paolobkk
      @paolobkk 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      go iBass I agree that a real champion would fight till the end. But if the match keeps the rules. That extra match was "invented" just because the organizers didn't want to pay back the bets. They needed 1 winner to make the show interesting. Buakaw was actually a noble person by refusing and sticking to the agreement of the match. He didn't accept to be a money puppet. You know.. Thais can be quite proud sometimes..

    Enriko Kehl is a very good fighter, tough and unpredictable with good technique. His elbow strikes are no joke.
    He has seemed susceptible to sweeps on a few occasions against Thai veterans but I always enjoy watching him fight.

    4:42 Wow... that guy's attempted punch after the kick is super scummy. I know it was probably heat of the moment, but he just delivered a super hard kick to the dude's head. No need to swing another punch, unless he wants to chance doing serious damage. Lack of restraint/discipline?

    • @uzernam303
      @uzernam303 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    • @jamyupsuhsuh
      @jamyupsuhsuh 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Neenjah Rammus Übermatik I think it tends to be reflex for most fighters though. For instance, in a lot of mma fights, fighters will often rush in after a knock down to pummel their opponent to seal the deal. When you knock someone out you don't know in that half second if they're truly out so your usual instinct is to seal the deal with a punch. I'm sure the dude wasn't like "oh I got this fight in the bag now, might as well pummel him in the head once more for luls".

    • @uzernam303
      @uzernam303 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well.. yes you have a point. I suppose it's easier to see things through a video after the fact than in the heat of the moment. I don't know which is the truth for this particular case, but I suppose either is possible.

    • @splicer6589
      @splicer6589 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Übermatik Plus the very fact that the punch missed meant that he didn't expect his opponent to go down. Or maybe he did, but wanted to get that punch in just in case he wasn't. It went over the guy's head though, meaning he thought the dude was gonna stand back up and continue fighting.
