    As a real life ex rally and test-driver that is looking to get to RC, it looks to me like the Lancia would be MUCH faster on a timed stage, but the Porsche just has that very sattisfying pitch and roll and slip-drag like real cars do. When you were doing the scandi-flick on the first test, with the Lancia you powered our of the corner and that was it, it pulled straight through. With the Porsche you had to correct the cars counter-slide after the corner when on power, which is slower, but a lot more fun to watch due to its realism and probably more rewarding when you get it right, love it. Although i have to say that, due to its more "lively" chassis, the Porsche seems very unstable at higher speeds. When coming in very fast the Lancia will be much easier to control

      "but the Porsche just has that very sattisfying pitch and roll and slip-drag like real cars do" - Thats the Tamiya XV01 for you, honestly one of the best chassis Tamiya ever released.

    Very interesting comparison Rex. Somehow I had expected that the 02 might be somehow better. But it seems that it all depends on the later usage of the cars. Thanks for the presentation 👍
    The lady's annoying, good reaction. I think her boy friend would have stopped and watched which would have annoyed her even more😉

    Go to 15k in the front diff and it will settle down the response... And give it more front drive.

    that was the first video i saw that really demonstrated the differences in how the XV-02 and XV-01 handle relative to each other. The XV-01 appears to be more realistic, and the XV-02 looks faster. Given the price difference and the fact that I'll be playing around and not racing in an established community, I'll probably get the XV-01 thanks to this video.

    Rex dude, awesome video!!!! Love the way you did left hand & right hand turns, it really shows how the cars handle (low view near ground level). Every car has it's pro's and con's, even if made by the same company. Great job man, Love It!!!!!

    I really enjoyed this buddy . Seeing you explore the more subtle parts of the hobby and engineering of the cars and finding new joy along the way .
    You're doing RC your way . Sure you can learn alot from others and videos . But there's nothing like real hands on testing and comparison .
    There was a big difference in the FEEL of the drive between the two cars for sure and i think you summarized it well . Great work .

    Awesome video of these 2 brilliant rally cars. Good to see them running back to back! It appears that the XV-02 is the sharper/more precise of the 2 and the XV-01 is slower to react but smoother when it comes to making turns. I had so much fun driving figure 8s with mine.😂 Thanks for sharing!🙏😊

    Rex, you made valid points....
    Starting with the first one about power. I grew up in the 80's. 245hp in a performance Car was considered a LOT!
    Now, my Wife's Nissan Murano has 330hp!! And is considered SLOW.
    IN YOUR comparison, the XV-01 should have NEVER been a good Car - given most of its weight and motive force - is WAY over the front Wheels... Yet it's a great go-to Rally Chassis!!
    The XV-02 has got a LOT to prove, yet it did look a bit easier to control!
    I hope I can get one. 🙏
    Excellent presentation!

    Great vid! I recently got my 01/02 out for a few hours at our local track and they are two different cars to drive, the 01 definitely likes to slide around a lot more and the 02 is less scale but much more precise, while it doesn’t quite make the corner as pretty(which we all love) it can turn on a dime

    You have very details on the throttle and steering wheel input compared to other TH-camrs testing, I currently have 5 XV01 chassis cars with different body, none of them finished assembly, lol, I'm a Kyosho Mid Optima 1990s era racer/driver and just collecting the Tamiya rc cars as a hobby hence their realistic body quality, i believe the XV02 will be in my collection soon and I will put them on together and try them out ( own backyard dirt track), since these two chassis looks so promising compared to the TT01,TT02 and XF01, thanks bro

    I don't know I liked the center motor one to me the front motor one acts like a non magnet slotcar that it swivels up front by the guide pin in the track slot and it just drifts easy and the center motor car if you really raced them against each other it would probably get faster lap times.

    Nice video... If you need to borrow scales or alignment tools . I be willing to help the channel. The over hang of mass of the xv-01 plus the torque effect of the motor drives down the front wheels plus adds to the rotation of the car

    We've been using the XV01 for quite awhile now, and we noticed that the car behaves differently depending on the body shell. Compare hatches with sedans, longer front hoods (i.e.: Datsun 240Z) with a shorter one (i.e.: Ford Cosworth)., and others. It was quite an interesting observation. Try it.

    Maybe a tt02 rally against the xv02 for closer comparison?. The xv01 is such a different beast with the front engine awd set up. A good side by side would be the xv01&2 on a track and measure the times. Good vid and music as always.

    @theoagrc ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome video Rex and thank you for sharing with us all! I am building my XV-02 this fall so I can’t wait to see the differences for myself. From the video it looked like the XV-01 was smoother to drive and control. Mine was one of the most consistent cars on the Orchard Raceway last season. However, the XV-02 looked faster. It seemed to need more input but looked quicker round that figure 8 than the XV-01 🤔 I can’t remember but did you have the 39/39 gear set up or did you overdrive?

    Rally donuts! Great minds think a like... But really, I am wondering, as I have not yet gone brushless with any of my tamiyas, did you have to mod anything for the greater torque and power that the brushless motors have, as in, more wear on the components etc? Any advice there would be appreciated. Great and satisfying video me friend! Cheers! 👍👍

  • @tm5123
    @tm5123 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Just add to comments spam. I think the difference is that you can have 50/50 weight distribution, but you'll still have mass, for example over the front axle or all of it mostly of in between the axles. And with that weight distribution, you change the center of gravity for the vehicle, even if on a scale, they are 50/50. This should affect weight transfer on braking/acceleration, AND more importantly, how the vehicle turns. I'm reminded of RCcartips talking about moving his shocks on the chassis side of his touring car, to get the weight close to the center of the car, to help with rotation of the car when going through corners. Its a very intresting subject. But its REALLY cool seeing it in action with the two different cars.

    • @ddogphacemorcane3198
      @ddogphacemorcane3198 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. A car can be way out from true balance and trimed with spring heights to be 25/25/25/25. It will be a miserable handling car even though it's perfect "by the numbers"

  • @JPGrc
    @JPGrc ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi, quite an interesting comparison. My only impression is that you have too slow steering servos. Faster servos would give you a more aggressive ride, not so sluggish. Of course, with a faster turn, the margin for error is also reduced.
    I'm also curious what adding a little weight in front of the front axle on the xv-02 would do.

    • @rexrcs
      @rexrcs  ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for stopping in! you may be onto something there, the xv-01 has a slower servo than the xv-02, although both are fairly quick servos, the xv-02 does have a quicker one. weight on the front end sounds like a fun experiment, I was also going to try putting the 39tooth diff gear in the back to induce more oversteer

    In comparing the handling & driving characteristics of the XV-02 against the XV-01, which ring gears are you using front/rear (meaning, on the XV-02)? 39T/39T? 40T/39T? 39T/40T? Whichever combination you currently using, have you tried each of the other two options, and compared those against the XV-01? I'm fairly certain others would like to see video all three options (in the XV-02) compared against the XV-01, so as to see (and hear you talk about) how each combination changes the handling & driving characteristics of the XV-02 (against each of the other two options, as well as each option against the XV-01).
