Another beautiful Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass. I love the emerald green and gold paint scheme, and the green convertible top sets it off. The cam in that engine sounds radical, and extremely healthy. That dual gate shifter makes this car a true Hurst Olds. Sweet example!
@MG, "You GOT IT Pontiac!" L0L Remember that ad campaign? I always thought it was named after an actual 442 engine, as in 442 CID? I learned on here that it means 4BBL,+ 4 on the floor, + DUAL exhaust = 442. IMO, 1972 was the LAST decent year for car designs, bc, starting in 1973, the Gubmint got involved mandating large bumpers for vehicles for our 'safety'!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read you enjoy this intro. I enjoyed it too :-) Glad you appreciate the condition of this car. My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Absolutely stunning car and color combination! Seeing the W27 rear end was a real treat. Owned a 71 Cutlass in college and loved its classiness. True story: senior year in college after 1976 Christmas break I drove back to Illinois State University with a 455 stuffed in the trunk. Trunk lid was tied down but you could see the motor. Amazing number of people commented and asked if it was for real over the CB airwaves. Rebuilt the motor as a project in a Automotive shop class. Still have the motor sitting on an engine stand. Was supposed to replace the 350 in my Cutlass, but I took out the rear end on a rainy day on the expressway not long after I graduated. Planning to open up the motor this summer to check it and find a new owner for it.

@Rich, Nice story! Too bad you never got that done, but you probably saved tons of $$$ on gas! L0L I'm just looking to the right column on YT, and see a 1972 Imperial! We were lucky to have experienced these CLASSIC cars in our lifetimes!
@@mr.blackhawk142 Thanks! I was SO lucky. Worked in a high end gas station late 60s and 70s. Worked on and drove ALL the muscle cars of the day. SO fortunate even to get to take a 67 Corvette roadster to college for a month too. Back then, not that many students even HAD cars.
Man, I can not tell you how much I appreciate your regular featuring of Oldsmobiles. As far as I can find, you are about the only one on YT who does. So thank you and I appreciate you!!
@@loucostabile My father is on the tail end of a restoration of his Sebring Yellow 70 W-30, I once owned a 70 Cutlass S, and my brother had a 79 Cutlass races car, I think its fair to say Oldsmobile runs through our blood. This one has my heart! Back in the early 90's I had 3- 1972s, 1969, all Cutlass Supreme and a 1965 F85 all hardtops. That 455 sounds sweet. Thanks for sharing Lou. Where he has the aftermarket gauges is where a factory 8 track player would have been.
Growing up there was guy on our block who had a 1972 442 Hardtop in the same Dark Green. The family car was a brown Vista Cruiser for the 4 kids. One drag racing season he blew ? in the motor on the VERY 1st weekend of race season. Needless to say she wasn't happy about that future expense but she knew he raced PRIOR to their marriage. Once again, Lou comes through with an outstanding video of an extremely well-done muscle car. The extraordinary amount of detail that went into this 1971 4-4-2 build cannot be captured in a fifteen-minute video, but the workmanship is apparent. Trust me; I Know. Special custom work is seen throughout this 4-4-2 convertible. Things like owner Jack Fritz' attention to fit and finish goes beyond what a normal restoration shop may do, or even dream of. Like adding extra metal to the door edges for a better adjoining line with the fender and rear quarters. Or the custom made extra deep air cleaner base that allows use of the factory outside air induction system with the high-rise intake manifold. Then there is the custom-made heat shield attached to the A/C box to prevent heat damage from the exhaust header. Further examination shows the custom application of the factory 8-Track tape player housing that has the four tell-tale gauges. I can go on and on, but this is one exceptional Olds 4-4-2 for sure. Thank you, Lou & Jack, for sharing this magnificent video of a well-built car.
Thank U Lou Another superb Oldsmobile Story. That Jack Fritz has done an excellent restoration. The 455 is built Full House & even looks sharp with Olds 455 Blue & Polished Alum Heads. If Jay Leno needs a stand in for Jay's Garage I'd like to nominate Jack Fritz...😊👍🏁

Nice '71 and def cam sounding there. Favorite color combo too. I'm sure he gets lots of attention. And Yes, we had a Cutlass S in the family, 1972.....loved it, but always wanted a '72 442. In 1969 we test drove a just off the truck 442 fast back version, blue/white/white, but Dad couldn't get the deal he wanted then. That was a good looking ride and only one of a few that dealer ever got. They got a few of the Yellow Rallye 350's but wasn't a fan of those back then.
Goodday Lou, As Australia's biggest Oldsmobile fan this spectacular 442 is awesome from every angle. Great scenery too with Lake Michigan in the background. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

Fantastic looking thing. One of your best ones Lou.... A pedant writes! you may not qualify the word "unique".... Something cannot be very, really, extremely, etc, unique. It either is unique or it is not....
And not a lithium ion battery in sight around this bruiser!! Thank God lol ;)!!! And thank you Lou, for bringing us this gloriously jade green and gold 442. EPIC and amazing. That wolfie werewolf lope coming out of those 2 trumpets out back is worth every listen, man. Oh boy! I will have my green and gold striped on top tubesocks and SUPER floppy white DC's on for this Olds, man. Every step I take they will flop off as if mt stocking feet are saying "Howdy!" with every step. 100% still the JV baseball delinquent kid from highschool and this 442 brings that out! You got a problem with that big bro, Lou? I hope not. Thanks big brother! :) JV Johnny
I purchased this in 1978 for $1750 and boy did that hurt! I was working part time in a food store making $2.35 at that time.. Glad I did it though. Jack
Is that a 1971 or 1972? I thought the only year with horozontial taillights was 1972. I could be wrong, they may have changed them in 71. Beautiful exquisite car. Thanks Lou! Awesome!
Thank you. When I brought it home from the painter the color changed many times as the angles of the sun bounced off of it. My heart sank when the late afternoon sun angle made the center of the hood appear the clear coat just ran ..I shut the door and didn't come back till next day..I kept door shut and turned on the lights for another look....the sun and clear coat along with metal flake played a nasty trick. Jack
Hey Lou, That 442 is one mean cruiser. It's nice how original it is and that exhaust sound ..there's nothing that can beat the sound of a 70's Era muscle car. What is the HP of that beast?. Thanks for another amazing old school muscle car.

Hi K B, Happy to read your Family had a Cutlass :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
Beautiful Olds!
You just got to love the 442's

Fantastic looking thing. One of your best ones Lou.... A pedant writes! you may not qualify the word "unique".... Something cannot be very, really, extremely, etc, unique. It either is unique or it is not....
Hi Roman, Happy to read "One of your best ones Lou" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi JV Johnny, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and sounds of this Olds :-) You're welcome, Lou

Hi Samuel, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This is just a badass car there Awesome 👍👍👍😎
Nice :-)
Somewhere Tim Allen is going RRRRRRR
Nice :-)
Hardtop or Convertible, this is a seriously handsome body style. I wish I had owned one of these back when they were affordable.
I purchased this in 1978 for $1750 and boy did that hurt!
I was working part time in a food store making $2.35 at that time..
Glad I did it though.
Jack
Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-)
Top 3 favorite cars ever, and that green convertible omg!It sounds a little extra radical..maybe a cam?
Hi Richard, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
Yes , a roller cam RH/94-95
Is that a 1971 or 1972? I thought the only year with horozontial taillights was 1972. I could be wrong, they may have changed them in 71. Beautiful exquisite car. Thanks Lou! Awesome!
Hi Wiiam, I'm told 1971. You're welcome, Lou
The only thing I can say is WOW!!!
Nice !
I really dig the color combo
Happy to read you enjoy the colors of this car :-)
It's the original color but updated with modern enamal instead of laquer
“we’re not gonna do the full qtr mi because the tank is only @1/2 full and that run would probably use every drop, plus some….”
:-)
That is an absolutely true statement
JAY LENO IS WONDERING IF IT IS FOR SALE
:-)
I thought it was black also. Love the car!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you "Love the car!" :-) Lou
Jack
The light or sun plays tricks, I had the same thoughts.
Beautiful, except for the horrible tires
Hi George, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car (other than the tires), Lou
I like those tires better than the bias ply. The radials give an unbelievable smooth ride
442 : 4 barrel carb. v 2 , 4 speed trans v 3, True DUEL exhaust v Y pipe off headers
:-)
Lou, Is there any way to find out the exhaust components on this car front to back? Would put the identical set-up on my 442. Thanks.
Rock Ford, Unfortunately I do not have the info on the exhaust set up. Hope you find the right exhaust for your car.
Hey Lou, That 442 is one mean cruiser. It's nice how original it is and that exhaust sound ..there's nothing that can beat the sound of a 70's Era muscle car. What is the HP of that beast?. Thanks for another amazing old school muscle car.
Hey AllanK Quon, Happy to share this "mean cruiser" with you :-) I agree, this car sounds great! Not sure about the HP of this car. You're welcome, Lou
Not sure of the Hp, never had it on a dyno. But I built everything for 500 hp so nothing would break.
CUT the roof off any car and you automatically make it more desirable to drive and look at! Yes, even in RAINY Vancouver! ATM, my all-time FAV is the 1968 SHELBY COBRA GT500 KR. (CONvertible) The Olds and Buicks are UP THERE too of course!
Hi Mr. BLACKHAWK, Happy to read your favorite, and here it is :-) Lou th-cam.com/video/jzznSbEXXC8/w-d-xo.html

Hi Michael, Happy to read this one is "very nice" :-) Lou

Thank you Mr. CHON :-)
As far as torque goes...more than what the Factory put out.
Hi Jack, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
How many miles on this car and what type of torque does this car have
Not sure on both questions.
What's the cam type and grind number and what type of exhaust and mufflers
Not sure.
