Funny story: I didn’t think this video made it up on TH-cam because it got copyright striked when I tried to upload it. Today, I was surprised to see it on the recommended page in my private account and even more surprised to see an absolute wall of beautiful, kind comments, and that this seemingly dead channel somehow had gained 1000+ subscribers. Thank each and every one of you so much for your kind words, I’m really happy that this thing I made a very long time ago now still touches people who share my love for the Zelda series. 💛 Unfortunately I don’t have as much time for drawing these days as I used to. I’ve also kind of ruined my drawing hand a little bit which haven’t helped with the output either, but I do still have a passion for art and animatics, my means of pursuing it are just not great at the moment. I mostly post on Twitter as of right now, so when I do get to draw stuff I usually post it there. @@hitotsudaketsukinoko There's multiples different reincarnations of Link. The Hero of Time, The Hero of Twilight, The Hero of Winds etc. They just shortened the Hero of The Wild into "Wild". Just in case your confused
i love how done and tired he looks and that he is aware that his ´´time line split´´ endet up to bring botw link to his fate and that he is depressed that he had made mistakes that forged the dark horizon in the future wich we all know as great calamity... such a sad hero the right man who made one simple mistake only because he wantet to find his friend in the past.... the fallen timline is indeed dark friends :´(
Legend of Zelda is truly a tragedy, the same players are reincarnated eternally forever, the king of evil, the princess, and the hero. They are each tied to a destiny that is forever repeating. Do you think that Hylia wishes to shed her mortal form, forever trapped, unable to freely help here people whenever she wants. Stuck in a loop of sealing the evil away, hoping for a savior to come to, to by time. Do you think the Hero wishes to reject his duty, to for once not have the world on his shoulders. To not be at best a knight way over their head and at worst a kid who achievements are lost to the world. Do you think Demise regrets his curse, that he did not think it would take this long. Do you think he wishes for the cycle of endless failure to end. Maybe that's why he is little more than a barely sapient beast by now, his mind is broken, he is no longer their. A fate that is worse than death, an unending cycle of hollow victories.
I like to think that Hylia knew there'd be an end. She dropped her goddess status out of eternal love for her people. She also tipped the scales in her favor if a reincarnation of demise ever got the triforce it would most certainly be split between the three whereas if a fully realized hero or zelda got it they'd get the whole thing (like link did in Skyward sword)
I love that all the Links, Zeldas and Ganondorfs walk together, like the past doesn't matter and they realize that they are each a part of the same thing. I think I even saw the Twilight Princess Ganondorf put a hand on Link's shoulder as they walked away.
@@ArmegeddonCraft Demise is the guy who placed the curse on them. Hylia saw how loyal Link was to defending Hyrule, and therefore her, so she blessed him with always doing so with herself at his side. Both of them reincarnated as humans. Demise is the one that made it more a curse by throwing himself in there and making it so that Hyrule will always face ruin.

I love that in this context, Ganondorf was a victim of Demise’s curse. That this eternal clash between good and evil is because of this evil force from Ages long forgotten.
It just puts into perspective how in a lot of the games Ganon isn’t even the main villain, merely the “evil” trying to be redirected. People like Zant, Girahim, Yuga,Byrne, Chancellor Cole, etc. being the TRUE villains as they are not tied to this horrible legacy, they CHOOSE to be evil while Ganon is born to it. In the end he’s just as trapped in a cycle as the other two. I’m fact I’d argue Ganon has the worst destiny of the three: always destined to be the outcast, the disaster, the downfall of a society. Imagine living with that. Imagine being DESTINED to be the very thing that is wrong and utterly detested and fears by all. And the only people who wish to interact with you are merely trying to use your power or use you as a weapon.
Luke Mckenzie I wonder if they’ll go into that concept at all in BOTW2? At the very least, it looks like Ganon’s side of the story is about to become a whole new level of twisted.
Having spent every free minute of the past week playing Tears of the Kingdom, I can confirm that this iteration of Link must have made his predecessors proud for sure.
Sky looks so sympathetic and looks at Wild with pity, even giving him a thumbs up, while Twilight just looks so haggard and gaunt since he knows what a burden the destiny they carry is and has a nature sort of respect but also sadness that the cycle continues. I love the details
@@Aggelos-tv3ep He's the Hero of Time, the Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. He's depicted with one eye because the Hero's Shade, a spirit of a former hero who is commonly accepted to be the Hero of Time, is depicted with one glowing red eye while the other is just an empty socket.
I feel like Orcarina of Time Link and Breath of the Wild Link have the most tragic storyline. OoT Link watched Hyrule go to ruin unable to do anything then when he beat Ganondorf he was sent back in time and nobody remembered him as the hero he was, making him become depressed. Botw Link nearly died and slept for 100 years as Hyrule went to ruin. All of his friends died and when he woke up he had amnesia and even if he could remember, mostly everyone he cared about was dead anyway and he couldn't do anything to stop it. All of their fates have been decided for them the second they were born and it's really depressing when you really look into it.
@@maximumdm9612 Not really. He had a family and children, since Hero of Twilight and Time are related (by blood and stuff). But still the story of the Hero of Time is much more tragic than the Story of the Hero of the Wild, since everybodys knows who Link (Wild) is and no one remembers Link (Time). The other part is, Wild had a childhood and friends, a family and time to develope natural. Time had none of that and he had to watch his friends die at one point and when he returned to his child timeline none of those friends were that deeply connected anymore. Imagine seeing your loved ones die and then return to a time, where the arent really your love ones. The Hero of Time had the most tragic backstory by far. @@DonCurrywurst the hero of time had Saria. Also Navi, who remembered everything he did and was by his side the entire time, if he did end up finding her. and Termina remembered him as a hero at least
I love the fact that when everything is all said and done nobody wins, everybody is just tired and scared from the constant fighting in life. Even ganondorf walks alongside his zelda and link as they move on
To be honest, Link and Zelda are the only winners EVER. Ganon suffers, the whole world suffers, many die on both sides, but when Ganon is defeated and Link and Zelda get to live out the rest of their life together in a now peaceful and united world. The cycle repeats some time after their deaths, but they got to live out their lives in peace after defeating Ganon. That is definitely a win. Even from the greater perspective of looking at all of their lives and reincarnations as a whole, they still spend the overwhelming majority of their time in a happy, peaceful state.
@@TheDrexxus They would probably disagree. I have no doubts that all the Links and Zeldas would only consider it a true victory if they managed to put an end to the cycle once and for all, if they knew about the curse. Anything else is just pushing the problem off on some other generation’s shoulders. Even when they don’t know about the curse, they probably know that Ganondorf, or someone like him, will return at some point.
I really believe that to, thanks to the Wind Waker Ganon, he just wanted a better land for his people, only to be corrupted by a pursuit of power in the end
@@StegoAqua agreed because it most of the games you really don’t see him have a hatred for link or Zelda. In fact, a lot of the time he respects link which is why I like you can see him, put his hand on the shoulder of one of the links in this video
Actually, you can see a couple of Ganon's incarnations. When the ghosts are all walking into the light, you can see the bipedal pig form with the trident, and I think the one from Wind Waker is also there
I'm pretty convinced that Ghirahim would ultimately find himself in the same boat... with every other weapon wielded by an iteration of Ganondorf/Ganon, be it sword, trident, or battle ax. All because they had to go and pick a fight with Link, more often than not with Fi, aka the demon-repelling Master Sword.
well hes at least the one who splittet the timeline into three all come outs are basing on his actions thats why i like how tired and depressed he looks here and that hes aware of his mistakes makes it even more painfull
If time isn't the leader, then who would?. The previous links (that we know of) are like 9 to 13 years old, then you would say what about the skyward sword link. And i would say that 75 percent of the story he is following orders or in need of fi help
@@jeronimomartinezcalsina7690 Skyward Sword Link is more a story of desperation and growth, which is why Fi grows with Link becoming the Master Sword as Skyward Link gains more courage in himself and his goal to save his Childhood friend Zelda. He isn't a leader or a dauntless Hero, but he becomes one towards the end. Honestly despite Skywards wonky controls and annoying hand holding I find its narrative to be one of the strongest.
GOD OKAY. Twilight Link’s sad eyes of an aged man in a young face, SS Link trying to encourage him at least a little by giving him a thumbs up, Twilight Zelda’s knowledge of what’s to come, The Hero’s Shade’s Zelda putting an arm on his back to comfort him because he’s probably always been the one to tell the new Link what’s to come and almost breaks down every time because it doesn’t get any easier having to tell someone their life is not up to them and that it will never truly be in any reincarnation or form. Of course they all know they should be proud to be written in every era in history one way or another, but having your fate be predestined by forces out of your control and having your whole life predecided for you before you were born? No one but the continued reincarnations of the three could understand that pain, rage, and grief of a life you lost just by existing, and you must now live one out of your control, never truly being your own. I mean, The Hero’s Shade’s expressions of pure grief and regret that will plague him forever, his face when Majora’s Moon shows up and he closes his eyes to take that split second for himself, knowing there’s nothing that he or anyone can do to end this cycle or make it any easier to hear and that they all must go on, carrying the knowledge they’ve all already played their part and one of the oldest must now bear the burden of telling this all new Link- struck with amnesia and no knowledge of who he is or who he can trust- this aged, grief-stricken, wise spirit has to tell this poor young kid that his life is a predestined paradox that must continue and he’ll never know if what he did was right until it’s over??? I’m LOSING IT.
I love this scenario if "The Legend of Zelda" becomes an animated movie: Link, sometime after Ganondorf abducts Zelda, feels he is to blame for everything. As he lacks the confidence to uphold the destiny the rests on his shoulders and how he feels pressured that he can't live up to the other wielders of the Master Sword in the past generations. He is then contacted & encouraged by his ancestors to do what is right.
This would work, though I think we should stay true to the animation and make it a "Breath of the Wild" movie? Maybe, since he doesn't have his memories to know his own strength, he doesn't feel strong, and maybe that ends up with someone dying. He probably feels guilty, so the previous incarnations of the triforce wielders help him, with the Hero of Time leading them.
I'd be so in for that. Especially sine it would work in any particular movie's favor, by letting it have its own story rather than having to satisfy fans of whichever game got adapted. Stay true to the character, while adding to the lore, in a way.
Here's a suggestion for you. Look up the "Linked Universe" on Google. It'll link you to a Tumblr account that's doing a story with all of the Links... Perhaps the others, later. We don't know yet.
Now I want a Zelda game where Link is finally aware of all his past incarnations and strives to finally break free of Demise's cycle of reincarnation using the Full Triforce. EDIT: I want Zelda _and Ganondorf_ to be aware too. Imagine a game where Ganondorf is tired of constantly fighting, dying, and being the monster because he realizes he's as much a slave to the Demise's Curse as the rest of the world.
That would make a great game to wrap up the series. The ending could go two ways. One is the end of the reincarnation cycles. Or Ganondorf remains in the reincarnation cycle. But the three are free to live in peace. Demise remains but now Hyrule has three protectors.
I want a LOZ game where Libk Zelda and Gannon rebel against the curse. Link and Zelda don’t try to get rid of the evil. Instead they help Gannon. They realize the curse that he’s the demon lord, but they still do everything they can to break it. To Help him to contain the evil in him. They’ve seen the past and don’t want to relive it. In stead they all work together. Most of the games moral of the story is That power can be a very bad thing with too much of it or in the wrong hands. I want a game where Link Gannon Zelda everyone, realizes that they don’t have to follow the past. They choose to rebel and work together. To strengthen the bonds they have and make new strong bonds. And mabey at the end of the game they have to work together as Courage Power and Wisdom. To defeat the placers of this fate. The Goddess Hylia and the Demon king Demise. Mabey it would be a fitting end to the series. They finally arnt controlled by some greater power. They are choose to pick there own destinies. Just like we are. And that’s the new moral of the story. We can pick who we become. Just because our past or lineage is muddled doesn’t mean we have to continue it. Sorry for the rant but I just think this would be very cool.

The "Who lives, who dies," with Zelda and Ganon coming into frame gave me CHILLS. They've gone through the cycle so many times and none of them can escape it. T_T
To be honest, I blame Hylia AND Demise for these guys' suffering. They dragged them all, including ganondorf, into something none of them wanted to be a part of. I blame Hylia because Link is essentially "The Goddess's Hero". She picked A TEN YEAR OLD to fight against the reincarnated anger of a GOD. And I know "it's because the triforce of courage picked him" but he is still fighting to protect Hylia's people. Therefore, he is the hero of Hylia. Which is why I firmly believe that Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are all just pawns in the gods' games. Children being dragged into a fate where it is GUARANTEED that at least one of them will die Edit: Coming back to this and wow yeah I've completely changed my mind. Hylia just wanted to protect her people and did so by sacrificing her immortal form in order to be able to use the triforce and defeat Demise. This is all Demise's fault from the start when he made the curse. Hylia doesn't really have a say in things anymore because I'm not entirely sure if she's still living in each zelda or if she died when sksw zelda died. Anyway yeah I completely disagree with what I said 3 years ago lol hylia did her best and demise is to blame :)
Hylia reincarnated into Zelda to get past a deal the goddesses made where in they couldn't use the triforce for themselves, in order to seal away demise, who is a demon, not a god. so she's not around anymore. And the original chosen hero, before skyward sword and even zelda, was an adult. But yeah, I agree. Even if the original reason she did what she did was for good, it fucked up in the end.
I agree, but Hylia chose Skyward Sword Link who is definitely not 10. All the other Links are reincarnations and not directly chosen by Hylia which still sucks
It's more Demise's blame than Hylia's, I mean, as Soup said, Hylia chosed the first Link to be reincarnated once for ending Demise when he came back, but she didn't counted on Demise curse about returning in a relentless cycle, so then the reincarnation cycle that was planned on happening only once must continue as long as Demise keeps on coming back.
@@SilverRyuu you clearly havent read hyrule historica, it predates even SS chronologically. in there the very first Link (before he was ever reincarnated) died - thats when hylia took pity on his fate and its why she too wanted to stay with him in reincarnation. If i remember correctly if even shows why LInk in SS has the red skybird and stuff. anyhow he was definitely at least a young adult when he was captured and thrown in prison etc. You can probably look it up online too if you want to, people have scanned the pages i bet (reads like the Zelda mangas if you're familiar with them)
The Hero of TIme being traumatized by the events of Majora's Mask - having to relive that horrific 3 days over and over again, seeing people die right in front of him, knowing death was literally looming right above him, and becoming the Hero's Shade is so haunting and powerful. He works perfectly in this.
I also love how OOT Zelda looks at him as she leaves. Of almost all other Zeldas she believed in him the most. Her eyes just had so much hope because like every link before him, he will succeed as the story is supposed to go.
"You have no controll, who lives, who dies, who tells your story" is such a hard hitting line in the context of this series, it allmost makes me tear up...
I like how in the original, "history" is talking about the future and how everything will be recorded while here "history" talks about all of those that came before them.
Also still future history as people will look back on the Hero as they always do. So it's up to Link to save the day, as History will look back on his actions
We consider these legends, Legends unseen, Either myth or truth, What might they mean? If they are fake, Then was is really at stake? If they are real, Then what can you add to the turning of that wheel?
I have to stop and watch this every time it comes into my feed. Seeing Ganondorf alongside the heroes and princesses is... heartbreaking. His story is a tragedy. The Ganondorf we first met, the one from Ocarina of Time, sought something better for his people. He moved to take it by force. We see in Wind Waker his regret, his realization, his anger with the gods. He saw the fortune of Hyrule and moved to take it. His people suffered for his decision. And yet... we see in Breath of the Wild that the gerudo prosper, they live on, they have all they need and more... now that he is gone. Ganondorf didn’t choose to be born the reincarnation of a dark God’s hatred... but he did choose to give in to the dark desires it gave him. I’ve always wanted to see a story somewhere, one where a Ganondorf lives among his people and has to make that choice. Will he listen to the dark god of destruction, wreathed in the fires of hatred, or will he accept the light of a goddess, one who’s flaming arms brought forth the land and governs the Power he so frequently wields?
I would write this. I would probably also take the chance to turn the legend on it's head. While Ganon wrestles with this cosmic tug of war scenario, trying to fight for his people without succumbing to the shadow of Demise, Zelda's Wisdom leads her down a self destructive path. I imagine that she remembers her past lives when she awakens, and immediately moves to end the cycle before it begins, by taking out Ganondorf before he has a chance to attack. I imagine that Ganondorf would become reclusive, and pull his sisters farther into the Desert, in an effort to save them from near certain genocide at the hands of a misguided Princess. I imagine that Link is raised in a war torn Hyrule, desperate for a Hero, and telling the guards of his gift at the first opportunity. I imagine that, when he and Ganondorf meet for the first time, Ganondorf pleads for Link to hear him out, to listen to his plight and try to understand. I imagine that Link does. I imagine that the Enemy goes from Ganondorf to Zelda. I imagine that the Legwnd becomes far too real, but it is not as Zelda remembers, nor is it the fairy tale Link thought it'd be.
He uh He didn't though He didn't want anything better for his people. He only coveted Hyrule for himself. When he had the Triforce of Power, he conquered Hyrule for himself. He brainwashed the Gerudo to serve him without question and left them in the cruel desert. When he had the full Triforce for but a moment, what did he wish for? For peaceful winds to blow for the Gerudo? No. He yelled to the heavens, "Give Hyrule to me!!!" Ganondorf is a fantastic villain. But he is not some misunderstood hero. The only real misunderstanding is the number of people who think he wanted to help the Gerudo because of his comments in Wind Waker.
Honestly, I was just thinking about this the other day. I would love a Ganon-centric story. Maybe through some strange outside influence, the aspects of the Triforce they wield are mixed around-Ganon could briefly gain the clarity of Wisdom and see where their paths have brought them. I’d love to see a game where Ganon is the protagonist, trying to gather the pieces of the Triforce-not to dominate the world, but to break them-and free Hyrule from its obeisance to the gods. Maybe Link inherits Power and Zelda has Courage (things get muddied), and you have a fully-powered, unrestrained Shadow Link as the BBEG. I’d play the hell out of it.
@@TheDeadmanstrolling Yeah, I feel that way about his character as well. His portrayal in WW is so good and I'm glad people take so much depth to it, but that line "Give Hyrule to me." I feel, is CRIMINALLY overlooked. Ganondorf spends the buildup to the final battle reflecting on his origins, but ultimately creates a half truth excuse for his own actions. His character can be one capable of regret and he could even have some good intentions, but at the end of the day we're shown time and time again that whenever he's given a position of power he'll use it only for his own benefit, his truest self is power hungry and conceited.
Link: I'm... tired. Gannon: So am I. Maybe one day we will finally be allowed to rest. Zelda: I hope so, because I'm not sure how much more of this we can all take.
@@jamesbrice3267 But that would mean that they would have to innovate instead of rehashing the same basic plot elements and that would cut into their profit margin! Story writers aren't cheap you know!
From 1:16 on, it seems oddly motivational and awe-inspiring when all the Zeldas, Links, and Ganons walk together while Wild is just standing there. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels so cool to me.
I really love that along with the Links, you included the past incarnations of Zelda and Ganondorf, and the part with Who lives who dies really got me, it’s really cements the cycle they’re in, where Zelda will always live to tell of link’s story and his adventures, but Ganondorf is forever doomed to play the villain of the story and perish. It really gives a bittersweet touch to the final scene as a incarnation of Link once again goes to fight Ganon and thus, continue the cycle.
Roasting Ghosts My thoughts as well! I think it could also represent the fallen hero timeline, in that sometimes things just won’t work out and Ganon may just win for a time. Very melancholic.
It's a bit ironic then that it's OOT Link saying who tells your story since the Hero's shade is part of the child timeline where no one knows of OOT Link's story and struggle against Ganon
@@CodeRed99911 Wind Waker is the failed timeline, where Time couldn’t defeat Ganondorf, and as a result, Hyrule was flooded in a last ditch attempt to bring him down. The timeline where Time successfully slew Ganondorf and had his actions erased from history is the one that resulted in him becoming the Hero’s Shade.
Sometimes it crosses my mind that the “legend” in Legend of zelda is a curse demise put on them to eternally make the 3 eternaly fight over and over again, every incarnation
I really like how the past incarnations of Zelda, Link, and ganondorf's all walk off together in the same direction. Like after the burden of their destinies were finished they met in the afterlife were like 'oh wow we're actually all pretty chill with each other now that like we're not the vessels of the Triforce and Demise has moved to a new host'. It makes me so happy
@@runedoom So you're telling me every Ganon and Ganondorf you face in every game he's in is the exact same one even AFTER the timeline split with Ocarina of Time?
@@fireemblemheroescuzynot9625 Pretty much. He doesn't die in OoT. In Twilight Princess he's ment to be executed thanks to Link snitching. Gets killed in the end of that game. He's the same guy in Wind Waker and regrets(?) his actions. Gets killed in that game. All the games after those two in their respective time lines of their own stories and villains. In the child timeline: Majora's Mask has Skull Kid/Majora, then it's Twilight Princess(where it's the same Ganondorf as OoT. The scene where he's being executed, then sent to the Twilight Realm, is because of his attempt at treason in OoT. Link snitched). Then Four Swords has Vaati. That's the child timeline. In the adult time line: After Wind Waker where Ganondorf dies, Phantom Hour Glass has Bellum. Then years later it's Spirit Tracks who has Mallidus The fallen hero timeline is a bit of an exception/technicality. Ganondorf _becomes_ Ganon(as seen in the final boss fight of OoT) and that's the same Ganon you face multiple times over in Link to the Past, the Oracle games, Link Beween Worlds(though he's fused with Yuga), and the original Legend of Zelda. All those Ganondorfs are the same Ganondorf. The Ganondorf from Tears of the Kingdom however _is_ a different Ganondorf

I think in 1:19 the shadow of Link (from left to right) after Botw Link is Lttp Link, because of the nose is very similar to the cartoon link, who suppose to show the story of Lttp

Every time I think about how Link, Zelda AND Ganondorf are forced through this hell of constant conflict and reincarnation, it brings me close to tears. Link is destined to bare the weight of the world on his shoulders ALONE every single time the cycle continues - and when he has allies, they ultimately are killed or forced away from him. Zelda is forced to watch her people - and in some cases, her closest friend - suffer or even die in endlessly brutal conflicts. And Ganondorf is forced to play the part of the villain, time and time again putting his own people through conflict and/or, ultimately, himself being killed or imprisoned for an eternity of isolation. The parts of this video that stand out to me the most are where Skyward Zelda happily walking next to Wind Waker Ganondorf (probably the most human and sympathetic version of him, since he seems pained over the flood of Hyrule and the destruction of the Gerudo, his people, and their homeland), and Twilight Ganondorf putting a hand on Twilight Link's shoulder, as if to comfort him. But the part where Link, Zelda and Ganondorf sing "You have no control / Who lives / Who dies / Who tells your story" hits me hardest. All of them are pawns. All of them are forced through a destiny that is outside of their control. And each of them must watch the next generation go through the same pain, isolation, and ritual endlessly. All three of these characters go through SO much, and I'm so thankful for you for putting this out into the world.
I have ADHD and have been severely hyperfixated on legend of zelda and it’s lore since I was a little kid. I’m turning 18 in 3 months and my birthday present will be a tattoo of the triforce of power. Everytime i watch this I cry. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted and perfectly fits my view of this universe i love so so much. Thank you for making this, I know you probably won’t see this because it’s really old now, but if you do please know this video means the world to me.
If you really think about it there is so much riding on the breath of the wild link. In the next game if he can defeat the revived ganon he could possibly end the curse.
@@esthelleg7037 I think it's because theoretically speaking, the next Ganon/Demise reincarnation will be like...the moby dick of all reincarnations. It'll be THE one who started the curse and will potentially be slain by BoTW link (since he's supposed to be the literal link between every timeline.)
I love how all of the Link's have completely different personalities, and you captured that PERFECTLY! the subtle things, like Skyward giving the thumbs up, Twilight looking more concerned and mature, all the zelda's portrayed by their games, Ocarina with his depression and hope for the future. It's something that is so prominently in the games but ignored overall....you got it down! I love that :)
Ahhhhhhh... hhhhhh...... it really hurts in a good way that you included the Ganondorfs as spirits guiding him??? They get dealt a REAL shitty hand in Legend of Zelda writing and I love love LOVE that you included them as some of the spirits saying "these are the lessons we learned, you do not control who survives, your legend will survive you". I just... hghk, it hurts. Especially the moment when poor BotW Link, who doesn't even have half his memories, tries to pull away from this horrible destiny, this horrible fate, and is penned in by his past incarnations with their grim, pitying expressions??? No one WANTS this outcome, but it's this-- this awful INEVITABILITY, this necessity, and it really captures the tragedy that fascinates me in Zelda's lore. I love this animatic so much. Thank you!
It just hurts realising that unless Demise's curse is broken, none of them can escape this circle of violence and death. Link, Zelda and Ganondorf were all, at one point, children. Children who the gods decided would become warriors to fight for either Hylia or Demise. And it kills when you realise that it is inevitable that at least one of them will die. This animation perfectly shows that and I LOVE IT!
They should make a game where all the patch recarnation of Link Zelda and Ganondorf a guiding link Zelda and even Ganondorf to break the curse of demise it could be a cool game where you had to fight the three goddesses and demise
Demise's curse is truly tragic. - Zelda is cursed by bloodline, doomed to slot into a role that has been preordained so many generations before she was born. - Ganondorf/Ganon has been roped in as an eternal slave to Demise's cruel will, always on the wrong side of history, always doomed to fail in the end and forever doomed to be reviled for all history. - And poor, poor Link. Each lifetime, when a hero is required, a random bystander is roped into the cruel machinations of a spiteful being long, long dead.
"Their job must be so hard," thought Ganondorf. "They have to fight so hard to win each time, just to watch so much loss. Just to do it all over." "His job must be so hard" Thought Link and Zelda. "He comes back, just like us. Just to be the villain, just to killed and destroyed all over again." All, they thought "I wish we were free"
After a thousand lifetimes, after countless battles, it all comes to this moment. The final fight, the final swing of the sword, the final Link to all that has come to all that will be.

You're right actually but idk I personally hope this isn't the final time we get to go on this journey The switch was my first console and BOTW my first game ever and I loved it I got my hands on windwaker HD, TP and played some of oot with a friend (I found an online multiplayer that is just so cool) And I loved it all to bits And Imma play Skyward Sword when it comes out for the switch So even if this is all too sad.. I want more of this. God I love this, every time a concept comes up where Link sees some form of his past lives its brilliant. I love to think that the Trio all see some form of their incarnations. And with all three knowing how much Demise impacts Ganondorf I wonder how much they pity him in a way, because of the three of them Ganon almost has it the worst. In the same thought, all of them have pretty shitty roles to play. Ganon will always lose to Demise, Zelda's mother will always die and she will always be in peril, and Link will always have to overcome impossible odds and push himself to the extreme to fight another day

I always love the mixed smile Zelda gives as she starts to turn away with the Hero of Time. Like she's saying "I'm so sorry for what you're about to go through... But you'll be alright... Alright?" It's so perfect!

@@boxtank5288 Idk, I'd say his tale has one of the more bittersweet endings. He did everything right and he saved his world and his loved ones, but he's also the one who got cursed by Demise - the first link in the chain, if you will - to carry this burden for eternity and for all of his future lives.
The idea of the characters suffering from their bullshit destinies is so amazing, and I'm sure it'd be amazing it see it in the games, and see links interacting with other links and zeldas and ganons, it wouod be an amazing thing
It's heartbreaking, yet so beautiful. This perspective of the story made me tear up. Poor Link, he has to prove himself and suffer over and over again because of this damn curse, he is forever predestined to sacrifice his life. The poor boy doesn't get to live his own life.
I DON'T KNOW WHY I DISCOVERED THAT JUST NOW BUT GOD THIS IS INCREDIBLE AND YOU DESERVE THE WORLD FOR DOING IT, i was so touched, so moved by it, seeing all these Heroes who didn't have any choice than following their destiny, Zeldas whose fate was ALWAYS to led a doomed country to a better futur, and even Ganons and Ganondorfs... They did not ask for this fate, for this Triforce, and I strongly believe redeemed Ganondorf should be a thing beyond death. They are all connected in a deeper web they could never fully understand, they are children's fate, and no matter how life treats them, they are connected by this common and inescapable destiny. Pretty sure they could be the only one understanding each others in the other side...

The way Time put the helmet on like how he looked in TP was insane. And the way the Heroes, Zeldas, and Ganondorfs all walk away together makes it even more interesting, like they all know what their destiny is after they've finished their legend and how it has to repeat
I've been a fan of Zelda my entire life. Ocarina of Time was the first video game I played, and being a big fan of Hamilton, this video hits hard. It's an amazing look back at the series as whole, and how far it's come. Truly, one of the greatest videos on the internet.
So this just randomly popped up in my chain of animatics, and TH-cam what the hell. This is incredible. Why did it take 2 hours following a chain to find it. God this made me tear up watching it when i realized what was happening. When Time put his helmet on and became the shade, I had to restart it with a new perspective. I absolutely adore the idea of the past incarnations of link coming to bolster him when he needs it most. And seeing all the forms of Ganondorf here just made me want BotW2 to sever the control Demise has and redeem the past forms. (I firmly believe BotW is when all the timelines reconverge, it only makes sense.)
I'm not as deeply connected to the Zelda franchise as most others here as I've only played a couple games so far, but this is absolutely incredible. You give all of the incarnations so much character, and I was captivated by every single frame. Amazing artwork, amazing storyboarding. 10/10.
This video is so cool, the idea that there is a moment of realization for every reincarnation of the hero of time, wherein their past lives are giving them a rundown of what their destiny is, how they need to cope with the pressure of all the legends and deeds done by the heroes before them. It's like a coming of age story, they're told what they are and what they need to do and sent forward to complete their task. It's really, really cool.
I like how some of them even have physical scars you can see. The fate they were given wasn't a pleasant one and just hammers into the new incarnation that their lives weren't the easiest.
When you know the history of the zelda franchise, it's kinda the saddest story ever told. Because of an ancient evil's determination to cause suffering, a man born to be king was driven to the path of evil by something he had no control over, he was a pawn. A ruler who just wanted her kingdom and friends to be safe was attacked time and time again without end. She lost so many, and will continue to lose many more. Then, of course, the hero who will live many lifetimes, but will never truly live because of his destiny, and a kingdom doomed to befall tragedy after tragedy. All because of one man's evil.
It's not just one demon's evil, but the endless struggle Hylia and the Hero face(which is the evil). Keep in mind, Zelda is, and always has been, the reincarnation of Hylia. The goddess protecting the world. It's not like Link who has the _spirit_ of the hero, and he's fundamental a different person each time who inherits the title "Hero" by Hylia. Zelda is the exact same goddess deep down, who's still trying to protect the world from Demise's curse. That's why it's called "The Legend of Zelda" the story of Zelda, who has always been there to stand in as Hylia and protect the world. Even though it's Link doing all the heavy lifting

Because it's meant for older kids. The minimum age is 7+, but the recommended is 11/12+ Also kids can understand a lot more than you think. Unless they're really young, they're not dumb.
The Heroes Shade is just another reason why I love twilight princess, it actually shows a past incarnation of link, and it shows that not all of them got a happy ending.
Honestly, kinda terrifiying the fate Link, Ganon and Zelda share. Constantly being reborn to fight eachother and maybe know, not just in the afterlife each time, that thier actions not only shape the world, but 3 different timelines caused by Link's failure, Ganon's success and Zelda's kindness to let Link live as a child after defeating Ganon in OoT

I really like that last close up on link, he kinda looks scared but he's still doing what he needs to. We don't really get that kind of characterization in the games often but it's an essential part of every link considering his part of the triforce
Came back to this after like almost over a year and a half now and yeah it still gives me goosebumps. I first watched this having only played Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild, so realising that the artist took the time to even include Pig Ganon from A Link To The Past was really nice. There's a bunch of little details I didn't notice then I did now too that made me feel all kinds of ways, like how TP Zelda draws her sword as she walks into the light. Paired that with the following scene of the light coming from Hyrule Castle, I realised that all of the reincarnations were actually walking to where the three would eventually fight again. It made it feel less like a hated battle but more of a calm acceptance of "this is how it's always going to be", especially with TP Ganondorf putting a (almost comforting) hand on TP Link's shoulder, which also fits, as Twilight Princess was by far one of the most somber Link's and games in the LOZ series in general. I'm still gushing lol
I want this. I want this in a Zelda game. Ganondorf needs a redemption arc, we need a different villian, accept he's a victim in this situation, break the cycle! I had this idea to where someone (doesn't particularly matter. Link, a new villian, someone) finds out about the curse and through the wording thinks that they can break the cycle by ending the goddess's bloodline, aka killing Zelda and the king if he's around. Mindset being that they can put up a new system or monarch and not have to worry about getting destroyed every few centuries. Pros outweighing the Cons. This can go in so many different directions and feels a lot more interesting than "destroy Ganon" for the, what 10th time by now?
This would make a good PTSD Awareness video. It's not just the sufferers who are affected by it but those who are in constant contact with them also can fall victim to the madness.
Hi, so this really inspired me, and I thought I'd try to put this whole animation into words, even though that's kind of impossible since it's already so good, but here you go I guess. Link is standing across from the Hero fo Time, who is garbed in golden armour, holding a three-pronged helmet in hand, an eyepatch on his right eye. Link feels ashamed, ashamed that he has failed at his destiny and duty when all the other Hero's before him succeeded in theirs. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t protect Hyrule, and the Princess will die for my inadequacy.” The Hero of Time sighs and shakes his head sadly. “I was younger than you are now when I first set out on my quest. I watched my kingdom burn, and witnessed everyone's deaths first-hand.” Link’s mind is pulled back to his friends, his fellow Champions, and how they all died for his mistakes, but the Hero of Time continues before he can dwell on them for too long. “I made every mistake, and felt the shame rise in me, and now I lie awake, knowing history has its eyes on me.” The Hero of Time is staring at something in the distance, and Link feels the burning need to run away from his judgement, but he is blocked by two Hero’s, staring at him too, one with eyes as mysterious as twilight, and the other with wind-blown hair and feathers on his belt. Link turns away to run away from his past, but Zelda blocks his way. Not his Zelda, the one trapped in Hyrule Castle at this very moment, holding back the Calamity, but another Zelda from a distant past, and before he knows it, Ganondorf too. Past reincarnations of the wielders of the Triforce appear from the mist surrounding him like ghosts, spirits, and overwhelmed, Link falls to his knees, their judgement driving him to the ground to clap his hands over his ears to block out their words. He feels two hands on his shoulder, like a father comforting a crying son, and he looks up at the Hero of Time with scalding tears in his eyes. “Let tell me what I wish I’d known when I was young and dreamed of glory. You have no control of who lives, who dies, who tells your story.” Link holds up a hand, and the three pieces of his past in front of him hold up theirs, the Triforce glowing on each of their hands. The man who is always doomed to play the villain, falling each time, the woman who is always held captive but lives to tell the tale and the hero who always sheds his blood for his kingdom, who pushes himself to his furthest extremes to survive. Smiling, the Hero of Time puts on his helmet, lets Link see him as what he truly was, a skeleton warrior, a spirit of the past, and turns away to walk towards the light in front of Link. “I believe that you can win, that greatness lies in you, but remember from here on in, history has its eyes on you.” Beside him, he watched his history walk away, letting him see it in its entirety as it passes by. A cycle of life and death, destruction and rebirth, and he is filled with the certainty that he will not fail his kingdom and Princess, just like his reincarnations before him have. He felt their encouragement, their kind words, and he breathed in, closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he pulled with all his might, claiming the Sword that Seals the Darkness and taking up his destiny.
I know im a year late but holy hell did this make me cry! the animation was so flawless and your art style makes it even more serious and beautiful! when Time Link put on the helmet and his face turned into the Hero's Shade, I got fricken chills! seeing all the reincarnations appear like ghosts got me to! ughh! this is amazing!

Unfortunately I don’t have as much time for drawing these days as I used to. Legend of Zelda is truly a tragedy, the same players are reincarnated eternally forever, the king of evil, the princess, and the hero. They are each tied to a destiny that is forever repeating.
Do you think that Hylia wishes to shed her mortal form, forever trapped, unable to freely help here people whenever she wants. Stuck in a loop of sealing the evil away, hoping for a savior to come to, to by time.
Do you think the Hero wishes to reject his duty, to for once not have the world on his shoulders. To not be at best a knight way over their head and at worst a kid who achievements are lost to the world.
Do you think Demise regrets his curse, that he did not think it would take this long. Do you think he wishes for the cycle of endless failure to end. Maybe that's why he is little more than a barely sapient beast by now, his mind is broken, he is no longer their.
A fate that is worse than death, an unending cycle of hollow victories.
Demise is fine, it's his puppets I pity.
All these comments have given me a new perspective on the Zelda timeline that I find both interesting, depressing, and logical
I like to think that Hylia knew there'd be an end. She dropped her goddess status out of eternal love for her people. She also tipped the scales in her favor if a reincarnation of demise ever got the triforce it would most certainly be split between the three whereas if a fully realized hero or zelda got it they'd get the whole thing (like link did in Skyward sword)

Hylia saw how loyal Link was to defending Hyrule, and therefore her, so she blessed him with always doing so with herself at his side. Both of them reincarnated as humans. Demise is the one that made it more a curse by throwing himself in there and making it so that Hyrule will always face ruin.

I love that in this context, Ganondorf was a victim of Demise’s curse. That this eternal clash between good and evil is because of this evil force from Ages long forgotten.
It just puts into perspective how in a lot of the games Ganon isn’t even the main villain, merely the “evil” trying to be redirected. People like Zant, Girahim, Yuga,Byrne, Chancellor Cole, etc. being the TRUE villains as they are not tied to this horrible legacy, they CHOOSE to be evil while Ganon is born to it. In the end he’s just as trapped in a cycle as the other two. I’m fact I’d argue Ganon has the worst destiny of the three: always destined to be the outcast, the disaster, the downfall of a society. Imagine living with that. Imagine being DESTINED to be the very thing that is wrong and utterly detested and fears by all. And the only people who wish to interact with you are merely trying to use your power or use you as a weapon.

I feel like Orcarina of Time Link and Breath of the Wild Link have the most tragic storyline.
OoT Link watched Hyrule go to ruin unable to do anything then when he beat Ganondorf he was sent back in time and nobody remembered him as the hero he was, making him become depressed.
Botw Link nearly died and slept for 100 years as Hyrule went to ruin. All of his friends died and when he woke up he had amnesia and even if he could remember, mostly everyone he cared about was dead anyway and he couldn't do anything to stop it.
All of their fates have been decided for them the second they were born and it's really depressing when you really look into it.
At least BotW Link has Zelda.

@@maximumdm9612 Not really. He had a family and children, since Hero of Twilight and Time are related (by blood and stuff). But still the story of the Hero of Time is much more tragic than the Story of the Hero of the Wild, since everybodys knows who Link (Wild) is and no one remembers Link (Time). The other part is, Wild had a childhood and friends, a family and time to develope natural. Time had none of that and he had to watch his friends die at one point and when he returned to his child timeline none of those friends were that deeply connected anymore. Imagine seeing your loved ones die and then return to a time, where the arent really your love ones.
The Hero of Time had the most tragic backstory by far.

I love the fact that when everything is all said and done nobody wins, everybody is just tired and scared from the constant fighting in life. Even ganondorf walks alongside his zelda and link as they move on
When you think about it, Ganondorf is just as much a victim of Demise's curse as Zelda and Link are.
His hatred is not his own.
Wind Waker Ganondorf especially. King Rhoam was the true villain of that piece.
To be honest, Link and Zelda are the only winners EVER.
Ganon suffers, the whole world suffers, many die on both sides, but when Ganon is defeated and Link and Zelda get to live out the rest of their life together in a now peaceful and united world. The cycle repeats some time after their deaths, but they got to live out their lives in peace after defeating Ganon. That is definitely a win. Even from the greater perspective of looking at all of their lives and reincarnations as a whole, they still spend the overwhelming majority of their time in a happy, peaceful state.

I have no doubts that all the Links and Zeldas would only consider it a true victory if they managed to put an end to the cycle once and for all, if they knew about the curse. Anything else is just pushing the problem off on some other generation’s shoulders. Even when they don’t know about the curse, they probably know that Ganondorf, or someone like him, will return at some point.
I love seeing gannondorf being part of the ghosts singing. Like at this point he was just being ridden by demise like a horse
I really believe that to, thanks to the Wind Waker Ganon, he just wanted a better land for his people, only to be corrupted by a pursuit of power in the end

Actually, you can see a couple of Ganon's incarnations. When the ghosts are all walking into the light, you can see the bipedal pig form with the trident, and I think the one from Wind Waker is also there
I'm pretty convinced that Ghirahim would ultimately find himself in the same boat... with every other weapon wielded by an iteration of Ganondorf/Ganon, be it sword, trident, or battle ax. All because they had to go and pick a fight with Link, more often than not with Fi, aka the demon-repelling Master Sword.
I love how no matter where I go, when there are multiple Links everyone seems to agree that Time is basically the leader of them all.

If time isn't the leader, then who would?. The previous links (that we know of) are like 9 to 13 years old, then you would say what about the skyward sword link. And i would say that 75 percent of the story he is following orders or in need of fi help

@@jeronimomartinezcalsina7690 Skyward Sword Link is more a story of desperation and growth, which is why Fi grows with Link becoming the Master Sword as Skyward Link gains more courage in himself and his goal to save his Childhood friend Zelda. He isn't a leader or a dauntless Hero, but he becomes one towards the end. Honestly despite Skywards wonky controls and annoying hand holding I find its narrative to be one of the strongest.

GOD OKAY. Twilight Link’s sad eyes of an aged man in a young face, SS Link trying to encourage him at least a little by giving him a thumbs up, Twilight Zelda’s knowledge of what’s to come, The Hero’s Shade’s Zelda putting an arm on his back to comfort him because he’s probably always been the one to tell the new Link what’s to come and almost breaks down every time because it doesn’t get any easier having to tell someone their life is not up to them and that it will never truly be in any reincarnation or form. Of course they all know they should be proud to be written in every era in history one way or another, but having your fate be predestined by forces out of your control and having your whole life predecided for you before you were born? No one but the continued reincarnations of the three could understand that pain, rage, and grief of a life you lost just by existing, and you must now live one out of your control, never truly being your own. I mean, The Hero’s Shade’s expressions of pure grief and regret that will plague him forever, his face when Majora’s Moon shows up and he closes his eyes to take that split second for himself, knowing there’s nothing that he or anyone can do to end this cycle or make it any easier to hear and that they all must go on, carrying the knowledge they’ve all already played their part and one of the oldest must now bear the burden of telling this all new Link- struck with amnesia and no knowledge of who he is or who he can trust- this aged, grief-stricken, wise spirit has to tell this poor young kid that his life is a predestined paradox that must continue and he’ll never know if what he did was right until it’s over??? I’m LOSING IT.

I love this scenario if "The Legend of Zelda" becomes an animated movie:
Link, sometime after Ganondorf abducts Zelda, feels he is to blame for everything. As he lacks the confidence to uphold the destiny the rests on his shoulders and how he feels pressured that he can't live up to the other wielders of the Master Sword in the past generations. He is then contacted & encouraged by his ancestors to do what is right.
This would work, though I think we should stay true to the animation and make it a "Breath of the Wild" movie? Maybe, since he doesn't have his memories to know his own strength, he doesn't feel strong, and maybe that ends up with someone dying. He probably feels guilty, so the previous incarnations of the triforce wielders help him, with the Hero of Time leading them.
I'd be so in for that. Especially sine it would work in any particular movie's favor, by letting it have its own story rather than having to satisfy fans of whichever game got adapted. Stay true to the character, while adding to the lore, in a way.

EDIT: I want Zelda _and Ganondorf_ to be aware too. Imagine a game where Ganondorf is tired of constantly fighting, dying, and being the monster because he realizes he's as much a slave to the Demise's Curse as the rest of the world.
That would make a great game to wrap up the series. The ending could go two ways. One is the end of the reincarnation cycles. Or Ganondorf remains in the reincarnation cycle. But the three are free to live in peace. Demise remains but now Hyrule has three protectors.

I want a LOZ game where Libk Zelda and Gannon rebel against the curse. Link and Zelda don’t try to get rid of the evil. Instead they help Gannon. They realize the curse that he’s the demon lord, but they still do everything they can to break it. To Help him to contain the evil in him. They’ve seen the past and don’t want to relive it. In stead they all work together. Most of the games moral of the story is That power can be a very bad thing with too much of it or in the wrong hands. I want a game where Link Gannon Zelda everyone, realizes that they don’t have to follow the past. They choose to rebel and work together. To strengthen the bonds they have and make new strong bonds. And mabey at the end of the game they have to work together as Courage Power and Wisdom. To defeat the placers of this fate. The Goddess Hylia and the Demon king Demise. Mabey it would be a fitting end to the series. They finally arnt controlled by some greater power. They are choose to pick there own destinies. Just like we are. And that’s the new moral of the story. We can pick who we become. Just because our past or lineage is muddled doesn’t mean we have to continue it.

The "Who lives, who dies," with Zelda and Ganon coming into frame gave me CHILLS. They've gone through the cycle so many times and none of them can escape it. T_T
To be honest, I blame Hylia AND Demise for these guys' suffering. They dragged them all, including ganondorf, into something none of them wanted to be a part of. I blame Hylia because Link is essentially "The Goddess's Hero". She picked A TEN YEAR OLD to fight against the reincarnated anger of a GOD. And I know "it's because the triforce of courage picked him" but he is still fighting to protect Hylia's people. Therefore, he is the hero of Hylia. Which is why I firmly believe that Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are all just pawns in the gods' games. Children being dragged into a fate where it is GUARANTEED that at least one of them will die
Edit: Coming back to this and wow yeah I've completely changed my mind. Hylia just wanted to protect her people and did so by sacrificing her immortal form in order to be able to use the triforce and defeat Demise. This is all Demise's fault from the start when he made the curse. Hylia doesn't really have a say in things anymore because I'm not entirely sure if she's still living in each zelda or if she died when sksw zelda died. Anyway yeah I completely disagree with what I said 3 years ago lol hylia did her best and demise is to blame :)
Hylia reincarnated into Zelda to get past a deal the goddesses made where in they couldn't use the triforce for themselves, in order to seal away demise, who is a demon, not a god. so she's not around anymore. And the original chosen hero, before skyward sword and even zelda, was an adult. But yeah, I agree. Even if the original reason she did what she did was for good, it fucked up in the end.

It's more Demise's blame than Hylia's, I mean, as Soup said, Hylia chosed the first Link to be reincarnated once for ending Demise when he came back, but she didn't counted on Demise curse about returning in a relentless cycle, so then the reincarnation cycle that was planned on happening only once must continue as long as Demise keeps on coming back.
@@SilverRyuu you clearly havent read hyrule historica, it predates even SS chronologically. in there the very first Link (before he was ever reincarnated) died - thats when hylia took pity on his fate and its why she too wanted to stay with him in reincarnation. anyhow he was definitely at least a young adult when he was captured and thrown in prison etc.

I honestly love how TP ganon puts his hand on link in a comforting manor. Everybody is born the same, but the way they're raised is always different.
The Hero of TIme being traumatized by the events of Majora's Mask - having to relive that horrific 3 days over and over again, seeing people die right in front of him, knowing death was literally looming right above him, and becoming the Hero's Shade is so haunting and powerful. He works perfectly in this.
The empathy in Twilight and Sky's eyes when they say history had its eyes on wild is palpable and I love it

I like how in the original, "history" is talking about the future and how everything will be recorded while here "history" talks about all of those that came before them.
Also still future history as people will look back on the Hero as they always do. So it's up to Link to save the day, as History will look back on his actions

Seeing Ganondorf alongside the heroes and princesses is... heartbreaking. His story is a tragedy. The Ganondorf we first met, the one from Ocarina of Time, sought something better for his people. He moved to take it by force. We see in Wind Waker his regret, his realization, his anger with the gods. He saw the fortune of Hyrule and moved to take it. His people suffered for his decision. And yet... we see in Breath of the Wild that the gerudo prosper, they live on, they have all they need and more... now that he is gone. Ganondorf didn’t choose to be born the reincarnation of a dark God’s hatred... but he did choose to give in to the dark desires it gave him.
I’ve always wanted to see a story somewhere, one where a Ganondorf lives among his people and has to make that choice. Will he listen to the dark god of destruction, wreathed in the fires of hatred, or will he accept the light of a goddess, one who’s flaming arms brought forth the land and governs the Power he so frequently wields?
I would write this. I would probably also take the chance to turn the legend on it's head. While Ganon wrestles with this cosmic tug of war scenario, trying to fight for his people without succumbing to the shadow of Demise, Zelda's Wisdom leads her down a self destructive path. I imagine that she remembers her past lives when she awakens, and immediately moves to end the cycle before it begins, by taking out Ganondorf before he has a chance to attack. I imagine that Ganondorf would become reclusive, and pull his sisters farther into the Desert, in an effort to save them from near certain genocide at the hands of a misguided Princess. I imagine that Link is raised in a war torn Hyrule, desperate for a Hero, and telling the guards of his gift at the first opportunity. I imagine that, when he and Ganondorf meet for the first time, Ganondorf pleads for Link to hear him out, to listen to his plight and try to understand. I imagine that Link does. I imagine that the Enemy goes from Ganondorf to Zelda. I imagine that the Legwnd becomes far too real, but it is not as Zelda remembers, nor is it the fairy tale Link thought it'd be.

When he had the Triforce of Power, he conquered Hyrule for himself. He brainwashed the Gerudo to serve him without question and left them in the cruel desert.
When he had the full Triforce for but a moment, what did he wish for? For peaceful winds to blow for the Gerudo? No. He yelled to the heavens, "Give Hyrule to me!!!"
Ganondorf is a fantastic villain. But he is not some misunderstood hero. The only real misunderstanding is the number of people who think he wanted to help the Gerudo because of his comments in Wind Waker.
Honestly, I was just thinking about this the other day. I would love a Ganon-centric story. Maybe through some strange outside influence, the aspects of the Triforce they wield are mixed around-Ganon could briefly gain the clarity of Wisdom and see where their paths have brought them.
I’d love to see a game where Ganon is the protagonist, trying to gather the pieces of the Triforce-not to dominate the world, but to break them-and free Hyrule from its obeisance to the gods.
Maybe Link inherits Power and Zelda has Courage (things get muddied), and you have a fully-powered, unrestrained Shadow Link as the BBEG. I’d play the hell out of it.
@@TheDeadmanstrolling Yeah, I feel that way about his character as well. His portrayal in WW is so good and I'm glad people take so much depth to it, but that line "Give Hyrule to me." I feel, is CRIMINALLY overlooked. Ganondorf spends the buildup to the final battle reflecting on his origins, but ultimately creates a half truth excuse for his own actions. His character can be one capable of regret and he could even have some good intentions, but at the end of the day we're shown time and time again that whenever he's given a position of power he'll use it only for his own benefit, his truest self is power hungry and conceited.
Link: I'm... tired.
Gannon: So am I. Maybe one day we will finally be allowed to rest.
Zelda: I hope so, because I'm not sure how much more of this we can all take.

From 1:16 on, it seems oddly motivational and awe-inspiring when all the Zeldas, Links, and Ganons walk together while Wild is just standing there. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels so cool to me.
I really love that along with the Links, you included the past incarnations of Zelda and Ganondorf, and the part with Who lives who dies really got me, it’s really cements the cycle they’re in, where Zelda will always live to tell of link’s story and his adventures, but Ganondorf is forever doomed to play the villain of the story and perish. It really gives a bittersweet touch to the final scene as a incarnation of Link once again goes to fight Ganon and thus, continue the cycle.
Roasting Ghosts My thoughts as well! I think it could also represent the fallen hero timeline, in that sometimes things just won’t work out and Ganon may just win for a time. Very melancholic.
It's a bit ironic then that it's OOT Link saying who tells your story since the Hero's shade is part of the child timeline where no one knows of OOT Link's story and struggle against Ganon

@@CodeRed99911 Wind Waker is the failed timeline, where Time couldn’t defeat Ganondorf, and as a result, Hyrule was flooded in a last ditch attempt to bring him down. The timeline where Time successfully slew Ganondorf and had his actions erased from history is the one that resulted in him becoming the Hero’s Shade.

Like after the burden of their destinies were finished they met in the afterlife were like 'oh wow we're actually all pretty chill with each other now that like we're not the vessels of the Triforce and Demise has moved to a new host'. He's the same guy in Wind Waker and regrets(?) his actions. Gets killed in that game. All the games after those two in their respective time lines of their own stories and villains.
In the child timeline: Majora's Mask has Skull Kid/Majora, then it's Twilight Princess(where it's the same Ganondorf as OoT. The scene where he's being executed, then sent to the Twilight Realm, is because of his attempt at treason in OoT. Link snitched). Then Four Swords has Vaati. That's the child timeline.
In the adult time line: After Wind Waker where Ganondorf dies, Phantom Hour Glass has Bellum. Then years later it's Spirit Tracks who has Mallidus
The fallen hero timeline is a bit of an exception/technicality. Ganondorf _becomes_ Ganon(as seen in the final boss fight of OoT) and that's the same Ganon you face multiple times over in Link to the Past, the Oracle games, Link Beween Worlds(though he's fused with Yuga), and the original Legend of Zelda.
All those Ganondorfs are the same Ganondorf. The Ganondorf from Tears of the Kingdom however _is_ a different Ganondorf

Every time I think about how Link, Zelda AND Ganondorf are forced through this hell of constant conflict and reincarnation, it brings me close to tears. Link is destined to bare the weight of the world on his shoulders ALONE every single time the cycle continues - and when he has allies, they ultimately are killed or forced away from him. Zelda is forced to watch her people - and in some cases, her closest friend - suffer or even die in endlessly brutal conflicts. And Ganondorf is forced to play the part of the villain, time and time again putting his own people through conflict and/or, ultimately, himself being killed or imprisoned for an eternity of isolation.
The parts of this video that stand out to me the most are where Skyward Zelda happily walking next to Wind Waker Ganondorf (probably the most human and sympathetic version of him, since he seems pained over the flood of Hyrule and the destruction of the Gerudo, his people, and their homeland), and Twilight Ganondorf putting a hand on Twilight Link's shoulder, as if to comfort him.
But the part where Link, Zelda and Ganondorf sing "You have no control / Who lives / Who dies / Who tells your story" hits me hardest. All of them are pawns. All of them are forced through a destiny that is outside of their control. And each of them must watch the next generation go through the same pain, isolation, and ritual endlessly.
All three of these characters go through SO much, and I'm so thankful for you for putting this out into the world.
I have ADHD and have been severely hyperfixated on legend of zelda and it’s lore since I was a little kid. I’m turning 18 in 3 months and my birthday present will be a tattoo of the triforce of power. Everytime i watch this I cry. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted and perfectly fits my view of this universe i love so so much. @@esthelleg7037 I think it's because theoretically speaking, the next Ganon/Demise reincarnation will be like...the moby dick of all reincarnations. It'll be THE one who started the curse and will potentially be slain by BoTW link (since he's supposed to be the literal link between every timeline.)

Ahhhhhhh... hhhhhh...... it really hurts in a good way that you included the Ganondorfs as spirits guiding him??? They get dealt a REAL shitty hand in Legend of Zelda writing and I love love LOVE that you included them as some of the spirits saying "these are the lessons we learned, you do not control who survives, your legend will survive you". I just... hghk, it hurts. Especially the moment when poor BotW Link, who doesn't even have half his memories, tries to pull away from this horrible destiny, this horrible fate, and is penned in by his past incarnations with their grim, pitying expressions??? No one WANTS this outcome, but it's this-- this awful INEVITABILITY, this necessity, and it really captures the tragedy that fascinates me in Zelda's lore. I love this animatic so much. Thank you!
It just hurts realising that unless Demise's curse is broken, none of them can escape this circle of violence and death. Link, Zelda and Ganondorf were all, at one point, children. Children who the gods decided would become warriors to fight for either Hylia or Demise. And it kills when you realise that it is inevitable that at least one of them will die. This animation perfectly shows that and I LOVE IT!

They should make a game where all the patch recarnation of Link Zelda and Ganondorf a guiding link Zelda and even Ganondorf to break the curse of demise it could be a cool game where you had to fight the three goddesses and demise
Demise's curse is truly tragic.
- Zelda is cursed by bloodline, doomed to slot into a role that has been preordained so many generations before she was born.
- Ganondorf/Ganon has been roped in as an eternal slave to Demise's cruel will, always on the wrong side of history, always doomed to fail in the end and forever doomed to be reviled for all history.
- And poor, poor Link. Each lifetime, when a hero is required, a random bystander is roped into the cruel machinations of a spiteful being long, long dead.
"Their job must be so hard," thought Ganondorf. "They have to fight so hard to win each time, just to watch so much loss. Just to do it all over."
"His job must be so hard" Thought Link and Zelda. "He comes back, just like us. Just to be the villain, just to killed and destroyed all over again."
All, they thought "I wish we were free"
After a thousand lifetimes, after countless battles, it all comes to this moment. The final fight, the final swing of the sword, the final Link to all that has come to all that will be.

The switch was my first console and BOTW my first game ever and I loved it
I got my hands on windwaker HD, TP and played some of oot with a friend (I found an online multiplayer that is just so cool)
And I loved it all to bits
And Imma play Skyward Sword when it comes out for the switch

God I love this, every time a concept comes up where Link sees some form of his past lives its brilliant. I love to think that the Trio all see some form of their incarnations. And with all three knowing how much Demise impacts Ganondorf I wonder how much they pity him in a way, because of the three of them Ganon almost has it the worst. In the same thought, all of them have pretty shitty roles to play. Ganon will always lose to Demise, Zelda's mother will always die and she will always be in peril, and Link will always have to overcome impossible odds and push himself to the extreme to fight another day

He did everything right and he saved his world and his loved ones, but he's also the one who got cursed by Demise - the first link in the chain, if you will - to carry this burden for eternity and for all of his future lives.
The idea of the characters suffering from their bullshit destinies is so amazing, and I'm sure it'd be amazing it see it in the games, and see links interacting with other links and zeldas and ganons, it wouod be an amazing thing
It's heartbreaking, yet so beautiful. This perspective of the story made me tear up. Poor Link, he has to prove himself and suffer over and over again because of this damn curse, he is forever predestined to sacrifice his life. The poor boy doesn't get to live his own life.

I DON'T KNOW WHY I DISCOVERED THAT JUST NOW BUT GOD THIS IS INCREDIBLE AND YOU DESERVE THE WORLD FOR DOING IT, i was so touched, so moved by it, seeing all these Heroes who didn't have any choice than following their destiny, Zeldas whose fate was ALWAYS to led a doomed country to a better futur, and even Ganons and Ganondorfs... They did not ask for this fate, for this Triforce, and I strongly believe redeemed Ganondorf should be a thing beyond death. They are all connected in a deeper web they could never fully understand, they are children's fate, and no matter how life treats them, they are connected by this common and inescapable destiny. Pretty sure they could be the only one understanding each others in the other side...
In less than two minutes, you captured what I love about the Legend of Zelda series so beautifully I watched it twice and cried both times. Words cannot do justice to how amazing this is. Well done

The way Time put the helmet on like how he looked in TP was insane.
And the way the Heroes, Zeldas, and Ganondorfs all walk away together makes it even more interesting, like they all know what their destiny is after they've finished their legend and how it has to repeat
I've been a fan of Zelda my entire life. Ocarina of Time was the first video game I played, and being a big fan of Hamilton, this video hits hard. It's an amazing look back at the series as whole, and how far it's come. Truly, one of the greatest videos on the internet.

Well, it is 100% canon that the Hero of Time is the Hero's Shade.
So this just randomly popped up in my chain of animatics, and TH-cam what the hell. This is incredible. Why did it take 2 hours following a chain to find it.
God this made me tear up watching it when i realized what was happening. When Time put his helmet on and became the shade, I had to restart it with a new perspective.
I absolutely adore the idea of the past incarnations of link coming to bolster him when he needs it most. And seeing all the forms of Ganondorf here just made me want BotW2 to sever the control Demise has and redeem the past forms. (I firmly believe BotW is when all the timelines reconverge, it only makes sense.)
I'm not as deeply connected to the Zelda franchise as most others here as I've only played a couple games so far, but this is absolutely incredible. You give all of the incarnations so much character, and I was captivated by every single frame. Amazing artwork, amazing storyboarding. 10/10.
This video is so cool, the idea that there is a moment of realization for every reincarnation of the hero of time, wherein their past lives are giving them a rundown of what their destiny is, how they need to cope with the pressure of all the legends and deeds done by the heroes before them. It's like a coming of age story, they're told what they are and what they need to do and sent forward to complete their task. It's really, really cool.
I like how some of them even have physical scars you can see. The fate they were given wasn't a pleasant one and just hammers into the new incarnation that their lives weren't the easiest.
When you know the history of the zelda franchise, it's kinda the saddest story ever told. Because of an ancient evil's determination to cause suffering, a man born to be king was driven to the path of evil by something he had no control over, he was a pawn. A ruler who just wanted her kingdom and friends to be safe was attacked time and time again without end. She lost so many, and will continue to lose many more. Then, of course, the hero who will live many lifetimes, but will never truly live because of his destiny, and a kingdom doomed to befall tragedy after tragedy. All because of one man's evil.
Precisely, that's why this made me cry 😭 I just wanna hug Link and get him outta there.
It's not just one demon's evil, but the endless struggle Hylia and the Hero face(which is the evil). Keep in mind, Zelda is, and always has been, the reincarnation of Hylia. The goddess protecting the world. It's not like Link who has the _spirit_ of the hero, and he's fundamental a different person each time who inherits the title "Hero" by Hylia. Zelda is the exact same goddess deep down, who's still trying to protect the world from Demise's curse. That's why it's called "The Legend of Zelda" the story of Zelda, who has always been there to stand in as Hylia and protect the world. Even though it's Link doing all the heavy lifting

The Heroes Shade is just another reason why I love twilight princess, it actually shows a past incarnation of link, and it shows that not all of them got a happy ending.
Honestly, kinda terrifiying the fate Link, Ganon and Zelda share.
Constantly being reborn to fight eachother and maybe know, not just in the afterlife each time, that thier actions not only shape the world, but 3 different timelines caused by Link's failure, Ganon's success and Zelda's kindness to let Link live as a child after defeating Ganon in OoT

I really like that last close up on link, he kinda looks scared but he's still doing what he needs to. We don't really get that kind of characterization in the games often but it's an essential part of every link considering his part of the triforce

Came back to this after like almost over a year and a half now and yeah it still gives me goosebumps. I first watched this having only played Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild, so realising that the artist took the time to even include Pig Ganon from A Link To The Past was really nice.
There's a bunch of little details I didn't notice then I did now too that made me feel all kinds of ways, like how TP Zelda draws her sword as she walks into the light. Paired that with the following scene of the light coming from Hyrule Castle, I realised that all of the reincarnations were actually walking to where the three would eventually fight again. It made it feel less like a hated battle but more of a calm acceptance of "this is how it's always going to be", especially with TP Ganondorf putting a (almost comforting) hand on TP Link's shoulder, which also fits, as Twilight Princess was by far one of the most somber Link's and games in the LOZ series in general.

I want this. I want this in a Zelda game. Ganondorf needs a redemption arc, we need a different villian, accept he's a victim in this situation, break the cycle!
I had this idea to where someone (doesn't particularly matter. Link, a new villian, someone) finds out about the curse and through the wording thinks that they can break the cycle by ending the goddess's bloodline, aka killing Zelda and the king if he's around. Mindset being that they can put up a new system or monarch and not have to worry about getting destroyed every few centuries. Pros outweighing the Cons.
This can go in so many different directions and feels a lot more interesting than "destroy Ganon" for the, what 10th time by now?
But... That's not breaking the cycle. Evil will come anyway, except the only one able to ban him won't be around, this would be the end to Hyrule.

Hi, so this really inspired me, and I thought I'd try to put this whole animation into words, even though that's kind of impossible since it's already so good, but here you go I guess.
Link is standing across from the Hero fo Time, who is garbed in golden armour, holding a three-pronged helmet in hand, an eyepatch on his right eye. Link feels ashamed, ashamed that he has failed at his destiny and duty when all the other Hero's before him succeeded in theirs.
“I’m sorry. I couldn’t protect Hyrule, and the Princess will die for my inadequacy.”
The Hero of Time sighs and shakes his head sadly. “I was younger than you are now when I first set out on my quest. I watched my kingdom burn, and witnessed everyone's deaths first-hand.”
Link’s mind is pulled back to his friends, his fellow Champions, and how they all died for his mistakes, but the Hero of Time continues before he can dwell on them for too long.
“I made every mistake, and felt the shame rise in me, and now I lie awake, knowing history has its eyes on me.” The Hero of Time is staring at something in the distance, and Link feels the burning need to run away from his judgement, but he is blocked by two Hero’s, staring at him too, one with eyes as mysterious as twilight, and the other with wind-blown hair and feathers on his belt.
Link turns away to run away from his past, but Zelda blocks his way. Not his Zelda, the one trapped in Hyrule Castle at this very moment, holding back the Calamity, but another Zelda from a distant past, and before he knows it, Ganondorf too. Past reincarnations of the wielders of the Triforce appear from the mist surrounding him like ghosts, spirits, and overwhelmed, Link falls to his knees, their judgement driving him to the ground to clap his hands over his ears to block out their words. He feels two hands on his shoulder, like a father comforting a crying son, and he looks up at the Hero of Time with scalding tears in his eyes.
“Let tell me what I wish I’d known when I was young and dreamed of glory. You have no control of who lives, who dies, who tells your story.” Link holds up a hand, and the three pieces of his past in front of him hold up theirs, the Triforce glowing on each of their hands. The man who is always doomed to play the villain, falling each time, the woman who is always held captive but lives to tell the tale and the hero who always sheds his blood for his kingdom, who pushes himself to his furthest extremes to survive. Smiling, the Hero of Time puts on his helmet, lets Link see him as what he truly was, a skeleton warrior, a spirit of the past, and turns away to walk towards the light in front of Link.
“I believe that you can win, that greatness lies in you, but remember from here on in, history has its eyes on you.” Beside him, he watched his history walk away, letting him see it in its entirety as it passes by. A cycle of life and death, destruction and rebirth, and he is filled with the certainty that he will not fail his kingdom and Princess, just like his reincarnations before him have. He felt their encouragement, their kind words, and he breathed in, closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he pulled with all his might, claiming the Sword that Seals the Darkness and taking up his destiny.
