Eric! you are the best. Saludos desde la patagonia Argentina.
La Lo Cu Ra!!
My older brother love him! Love and thank you!
I went to high school with Lenny's son Tyler Castro. Hes a good drummer too. Some gnarly parties at his house in ondulando Ventura, CA
Wonderful episode, again. Thank you for your work. Lenny is a first degree influence on my development as a pro percussionist. (With Paulinho, Airto, Ralph, Luis, Mino, Bashiri, Nana, Giovanni, Don, Nippy, Raul and a few others) I am thrilled to have been invited to Lenny's house the night after we met in the Baked Potato. So cool to hear him talk about how he approaches music as a percussionist. Watching the world series (for the first ever time) with the family was something else, coming from Europe... We also hung out in my hometown Amsterdam when Lenny was here for clinics, with also Martin Cohen who as always made great photo's of the hang. (Including one of us jamming with Joey Heredia). Anyway, keep up the good work. All the groovy best from the Netherlands.
Very melodic sound. Groovy
¡¡¡Guao!!!
Congero MajorEric great job! I follow you always and I have learned a lot. Thank you for your time and dedication you give out. keep it coming!Miami,FL.
First of all let me thank you for your time and effort that you put in to these videos for other percussionist like me around the world. Our greatest value is TIME not money and I know it takes time to lay this knowledge on us. However, money is great too!! (HAHAHA) This groove is straight fire and I'll be using it with my band as well. Peace and Blessings to you and yours.
Great tutorial. Thats right up my alley! Love the groove!
Excellent job as always. Thanks for your wonderful work.
Ugh I keep listening to this groovy jam. Love it! Love it! Love it!!! I embellished this rythom w a lot of soloing. Thank you thank you again Maestro Perez. Your channel rocks!!!💓🌺🌷💓🌺🌷

Awesomeness ! Love this groove! Keep it coming😊
The way You explain things are just Awesome. Not only the Tutorial Part, but also the Introductions. I do not think that anyone is going to Skip that and move straight to "6:58"!
Thank U Eric Sir!
Lenny Castro's shuffle groove on Toto - Rosanna is very cool, locked with Jeff Porcaro's drum shuffle groove.
How can I play Roxanna on congas? Tutorial, please
Lovely....,,😀👌👌👌👌👌U play so nice ... How much love is fulfilled in u for playing conga tumbao ..It is clearly seen when u teach how to play it well....Keep on teaching ...Liked ur video a lot...
I'm listening to a song by Minnie Riperton called You Take My Breath Away. And Lenny Castro is playing percussion! He is prolific!
Learned this yesterday and found the song so I could play along. What a fun groove and I found myself even moving like him to really feel it. Yes, I even put sunglasses on.
Great stuff! Thank you for sharing! Will def work on this. Reminds me of a bass part from a Sade song - Why Can't we Live Together. Cool!
Very cool! Thanks for the licks and history bits. Love the background info; it adds so much more to the total product. You're one of the best instructors on TH-cam!
Thank you so much Billy!
Great job Eric ✌
I love you maaaaaan! Great video! You’re the best
As usual Eric...you got the groove man!! Keep on grooving!!
Carlos Novaes thanks brother!
How did you know It was thr?? Dang. Saludos from Argentina. Thank you for all this work and help we get from you!

E.W.
Yeah man! Great groove my brother. I'll be using this one with the band. Thank you!
Thank you!!!
That’s absolutely fire 🔥
Lenny Castro is an amazing talent and I have a huge crush!
That was dope. Thanks!
Thank you my Brother. God Bless.
Eric, can you please do a Eddie Bongo Brown lesson. He was the conga player for the Funk Brothers who backed up Marvin Gay on “What’s going on “ et al the Temptations “Cloud Nine” as well as Smokey Robinson “I second that emotion “
Exacto, he was playing with temptations many times, for example the low of the land, masterpiece etc.
Hi Eric, Finally did work this out. love this pattern! I did adapt it on 2 congas, still sounds good imo :-)
Super Eric! you are an excellent padagogue. Merci
Wonderful isn't said enough! It would be super useful to hear and see the whole groove in the slower tempo... much easier to figure out the last 3-4 hits.
Wow! So groovy!
Pretty nice groove maaan !!
Keep doing what you're doing with that Cafe Tostao y molao
Greetings Eric! i was not aware of Lenny Castro so many thanks for the introduction. That is a great groove of his which ,as always , you break down and explain very well.
Your congas sound beautiful with lovely tones across the range. A wonderful resonance and a delight to the ear. I wish my Meinl's sounded so good. i am seriously thinking about switching to Remo Fiberskyns. i don't think the skins you use are available here in the UK.
All the best.
Blair.
The wheel and then the Tumbao. Lol. I totally agree Maestro Senor Perez🌺
Yesssss!!!!
Great channel Bro.
Also out of NY Ray Barrett got a lot of studio session with many jazz groups and was used heavily for recording sessions. As was Potato as well. Patato was with Bernie Mann.and did an incredible solo that my friends still talk about to this day. Wish i could find that cut.
Ray Barreto recorded with many pop artists too.
Cool Bro! Nicely done as always, LOL on the "greatest invention after the wheel" joke! :D
lpsalsaman haha it really is
ERIC YOU GOT IT GOIN' ON WITH YOUR TEACHING AND PLAYING ... LUV THE CHANNEL! NOW, HAVE YOU EVER DONE A LESSON ON HOW A CONGA PLAYER LOCKS IN WITH THE BASS PLAYER - LENNY IS SO GOOD AT DOING THAT ... IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE A LESSON LIKE THAT I WOULD SURE LOVE TO SEE YOU TEACH THAT ... THANKS!
Love this groove! "It's the wheel and then the Tumbao" HA!
Papi...because you are such a great lecturer and teacher, I think you should definitely consider a facebook live session, or two. It would definitely reach a larger audience BUT my concerns is that it wouldn't have 'los sufritos' that you add in the videos (e.g. the voicings, glasses, the reference videos, etc. etc. etc. So if you can't add those little things, I would prefer the youtube. GREAT STUFF! kEEp ON, kEEPin oN!!!
Thank you Eric 👌
I agree, the Tumbao is the greatest invention 😄!
Hahaha
Yeah! Good! Thank you 👍
Love the lessons. Got a question: I don't know if this is possible, but I was wondering if you would be able to do a tutorial that is song study from the conga players point of view. In other words, explaining the musicality involved in playing an entire song vs a particular technical aspect. That would be immensely educational. When I was a kid, I could listen to the drums in a rock song and hear what was being done but I often find it difficult to hear exactly what is going on when it comes to the conga. There is so much other percussion going on a lot of the time. And even when I hear it, I'm still not sure how it might be being played (are they using double strokes, single strokes, are they using their right hand to do ta particular slap, etc).
Cosmo Spacemonkey great suggestion!!! I’ll definitely take that into consideration!
Eric don’t forget the real most recorded percussionist “ LOIS CONTE”. We would really enjoy that. Love your show brother. CONGA JACK.
Way ahead of ya haha and thank you!
th-cam.com/video/4PRJmQlJs98/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for sharing.
gracias otra ves!!
Yes Lenny is the man, worked with tons of musicians across many genres. I would also include Luis Conte who has also done so much to bringing congas into the mainstream. Love them both.
That's what I was about to request. Louis Conte has like, 4 hands!
Eric thanks for covering Lenny Castro. I actually first saw him on this same video and was trying to play this groove so thanks.😎🪘
got it! Thank you
My friend, have you ever done a breakdown of Paolino Da Costa or Alex Acuña?
I love the analysis you bring to all these fine drummers. You're great at what you do.
nice groove!
Hermano eso si que tiene swing. Si no hubiese escuchado primero la pista pensaría que es latino. Pero se encaja perfectamente en ese ritmo Disco 70's
I got to hang out with Lenny Castro one night at a gig he was super cool
Can you do a video on Yambu done by Jerry Gonzales on his congas 2 Video on TH-cam especially explaining his ghost notes. Thanks
Wheel then Tumbao 😜 thanks buddy it helped me a lot to watch professors kachiros clinic
Eric! Man! Its delicious!!! Hahhaha all the best
Haha Thanks man!
Great video lesson and thank you. Are you playing the quinto as your center drum?
I’m using an 11.75” conga in this video!!
Hi Eric , can you please post a link to the footage of Lenny Castro's session you show in your video?
Eric, great tutorial. Instead of doing the Tumbao like sticking (handing) , I d find it feasible to do the whole thing based on an alternating RLRL movement. Is that ok as well?
Of course... as long as the sound is similar... or even if it's your own unique approach.. all are great
bravo
maybe my favorite tumbao i've heard eric...
La primera vez que escuche a lenny castro fue en el unplugged de CAIFANES en la cancion Avientame!
Hey Eric,
First thank You for the channel and Your work on it! I would like to ask You for advice. For a beginner with two congas (Quinto and Conga). Where should i start? There are no teachers in the area im living in, so im using the next best thing TH-cam. I have been blessed discovering Your channel but still i need a way to follow. Im a salsa dancer and teacher and i have decided to bring my knowledge to the next level by learning my favourite instrument.... THE CONGA.
I have basic Tumbao with some variations on the Quinto and a little bit on the Conga following the clave pattern. But where i go from here? Ruddiments? Please share Your wisdom with me. Have a good day and thank YOU one more time. Cheers from Bulgaria/Greece
Bozhidar Gugushev that’s great!!! I would really focus on your tones before getting into Rudiments.... if you’re tones aren’t right... neither will your rudiments... so focus on getting a consistent open tone, Slap, bass, etc.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!!!
Cool chekere necklace! Where did you find that?
Samuel Gould Thank you! Contact Ricardo Wilkins from Mobeta Shekere at ricardoperc@yahoo.com if you’re interested in one!
P.S.: I think his playin' on Natalie Merchants "Carnival" is about as up-front, and good as it gets for conga variations on radio-pop.
I heard it while driving around Detroit, and had to pull over!
Also request You to show the shuffle Mr. Lenny Castro is doing in between the Groove. That adds more Crisps into the Groove. I know the Shuffle is based on the Feel, but if You can demonstrate the same for Us to Learn.
Brother where can I buy one of those necklaces’s?
feliz dia de los congueros!
Hey sir can you talk about a percussionist named Doc Gibbs.
Brother haste un especial de RAY COOPER, de los grandes percusionistas en pop músic. Elton john etc.
Maybe you can do one of Willie bobo
Where'd you get that sweet shekere necklace? I want one lol. 😎
Jeff Mann check them out at www.mobetamusic.com
Nice videos man but you should put some music to hear how sounds your grooves with backward music

Lo único que no me gusta, es que hablas muuuuchoooooooooo antes de explicar, el resto está de 1000!!!
He talks more than he play
Nothing against Eric but he talks to much in to the intro of the lesson
He run his mouth to much !!!!
