    Nice. Nobody makes a good weld their first time, FCAW is great to learn and work with. Glad to see the fan, weld smoke can cause deep lung problems. I'm hooked now; you speak well and the music is not distracting or annoying, like some other build channels.😆 Good content.

    i like the fact you showed your mistakes. you, and by extension, the viewers learn more. here i was thinking...."sure i could cut the steel just fine with an angle grinder" now i see thats a big ol nope.

      It just made it easier with the chop saw. Now I think with clear cut lines and patience I would do a much better job. I believe that we take these projects on to learn and challenge ourselves. Best of luck with yours!

    Well done my friend! I also am a backyard welder (with a few years experience accumulated). I’ve learned a good welder is a good fitter. The 45s shown in the beginning with the gaps will make it nearly impossible for even the best welder to actually soundly weld. It’s great that you showed and learned and obtained a better tool for the challenge.

      Thank you for the kind words. I’ve loved building this trailer and look forward to using it once completed. I’m surprised by the amount of small projects I get done with the welder now that I have it.

      @@lifeincolor7680 What kind of welder did you purchase? I have never welded in my life and I have learned the only way to learn is to jump on in there and be thrown into the lions den and not be afraid. I just need to know what kind of inexpensive welder I can purchase to practice with. I do not have a lot of money at all so I need something very very very inexpensive.

      @@andrewmena3118 I purchased the cheapest multi welder I could get my hands on from Amazon. It’s a yes welder I think model 205. Check out the yes welder on the web. They had a Kickstarter all in one welder that had a built in plasma cutter and tig attachment. I wish that had been around when I bought mine. Best of luck with your build. Keep your eye out, I should be posting the maiden voyage in the next couple of weeks. 🤞

    Nice design. You really should put the shroud on at the end of the welding torch. It will concentrate the shielding gas at the weld giving cleaner stronger welds.

      Agreed. If I was using mig. I’m using 035 flux and the gas is crushed into the middle of the welding wire. My limited understanding is that flux can penetrate deeper in the welds. Disadvantage is lots and lots of smoke vs mig. I was just learning how to weld and didn’t want to buy a bottle of gas which is about 300 bucks where I live. Now that I have a better understanding I most likely will. I made a lot of mistakes on this project and feel like I’m make more all the time. Your going to see some cool stuff coming up like printing the sides and back of the squaredrop on a massive printer, extruded aluminum 8020 galley etc etc stick around and watch me screw it all up. 😄

    Hey Ansu Pal, I used 1/8th inch thick steel for the 2/2's and 2/3's I found a really good article on the web on how to weld and that is what they suggested. for the frame of the trailer I used a combination of 1/8th and 1/16th depending on the area and load. Send me your email address and I will see if I can find it and send it to you. We building the galley out of extruded aluminum 8020 as well as the electrical panel and will provide Sketchup plans for those builds as well as it will be in an upcoming video.

    • @lifeincolor7680
      @lifeincolor7680  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. The welder is a multi and can use flux wire as well as mig. My understanding is that mig is prettier but the flux penetration is deeper. I hope that helps.

    I am definitely not a welding expert but it seemed like the line feed speed was maybe too fast? It seemed like alot of splatter. Im learning to weld and i have experienced the burn thru and the splatter but for the projects i do its not a big deal tho but hopefully i can improve my skill lol

    • @lifeincolor7680
      @lifeincolor7680  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestions I’ve no experience and have played with the speed faster and slower. It’s been a really satisfying experience. Good luck on your build. Remember to keep a smile on your face every time a mistake happens and don’t let it get you down. I’ve made many on this project but in the end I think it will be a great trailer.

I’m close to the end of the how I made it videos and will do a walk through and what I wish I changed. I’ll list all the products that I used at the same time! Cheers

    Please do not use tubing for your trailer frames. The hollow tube is uncoated and not treated internally and will have moisture in it leading to the inside of the tube rusting. I have seen frames rust through when made from tubing. Look at all commercially made trailers, semis trailers etc. they use angles or channels that are open and have equal or better strength. These shapes are open and can be painted to prevent corrosion.

    • @fortyseven1832

      You can coat the inside of the tubing with 3m body cavity wax. That's how sealed channels are treated in the collision industry.
