    THIS STORY:
On Saturday, June 10, 1876, a 37-year-old farmer, and Civil War veteran drove a horse and wagon nine miles north into the town of Lafayette Indiana from rural Union Township. It was a pleasant sunny day, and everyone was out and about celebrating springtime.
But this man with horse and wagon had a diabolical plan that he would hatch in the town's big hotel; the Lahr House The entire town would be reeling in shock by the next day.
    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

My father committed Suicide at age 79 - he was not depressed - I received a taped letter when I got back home after driving back from funeral. He had gone through a horrific period when his mother-in-law was in a home and had to endure the people who were confined with her. There were a couple of other things and since he was agnostic, believed he was in control of his life - He said he was saving all of us from his maybe getting to her stage. I cannot allow myself to think about how he did it. I loved him very much. Anyway, thank you for allowing me to share.

I can't blame him for doing that , the older I'm becoming I have such concerns and fears of what's to become of me and where am I going to end up , I already have my plan b and will implement when the time comes , unlike your father I have nobody so my actions wouldn't affect anyone , we all are captain's of our lives and should choose our own way.
I know you miss him terribly but please try to see things from his perspective.

"Every cloud has a silver lining," the old timers used to say. Mr. Moon did not stick around to see his silver lining: his son, who was his spitting image. And his wife never remarried. How sad he missed all that.
[I nearly threw up envisioning that scene! What a gruesome way to go! What a mess he made for the poor cleaning staff. I believe, in the end, suicide is selfish. Except in irreversible fatal illness that causes excruciating pain.]

Wow, just wow! As usual, Ron, you have shared a most unusual experience with us. It was a bit eerie when the murder of crows stopped their chatter just when you paused to speak about the situation as it came to it’s ghoulish conclusion! It’s just amazing how much a person can hide their suffering until it’s too late. Apparently, this is what Mr. Moon did. PTSD Wasn’t understood much at all at the time and if it had been, maybe he would have never done that to himself and his family. His son did look exactly like he did. Blessings! Mr James Moon got his 15 minutes of fame and then some more. Jumping off a bridge might just have been a more exciting way to go and cleaner. He did not think of the cleaning lady whose life he destroyed when she walked in the room. This story was bizarre: goes on the oddity list of suicides. How perfectly timed that the crows went silent just when your story called for silence. That is seriously uncanny timing. Amazing.
This is a bizarre case. I wonder if his wife noticed any hints that he was planning to do this or if she knew he had been battling depression or demons or whatnot.
He probably could have put his mind to some good for society if he could have gotten beyond the problems that plagued his mind and caused him to do this.

    • @LuvBorderCollies

Its hard to say what's going on in people's brains to contemplate suicide. The reasons are so varied from stuff involving love, finances, mentally ill, revenge, depression, avoiding prison, "voices" urging them to die (dabbling in occult) just to name some frequent reasons.
Often the families are totally surprised and that's because the victim covered up the issues they were having. Another theme I heard fairly frequently was... the victim had depression but recently they seemed to be "up" and even cheerful. That happens when the person finally commits to their suicide and that takes the burden off their mind. Once they quit contemplating the act, that struggle within stops and they now feel better.
I could go on for hours on just the most bizarre or strange or vindictive nature of suicides. But when you've investigated hundreds you see a lot of strange and some very sad stuff that did not need to happen.

Ron, you tell a story so well, I am entranced listening to you. BTW, the crows were so shocked by what this man did, they stopped cawing, lol. Thanks Ron, and stay safe.

This story was so intense. It's sad to know that he gave up on hope and not being
there on the day his son was born. Peace to them both.

    RIP James Moon
Civil War leaves scares long after the physical wounds have healed. The long, meticulous planning of this event only adds to the tragedy of this suicide. There would have been many opportunities prior and during that night to change the outcome. Did he know his wife was pregnant, probably not. Prayers of healing and peace to all who serve and served.

Wow, Ron, this one is extra interesting. I think it's the first of yours that I've shared to Facebook. I don't share many videos. Even the murder of crows added to the ambience!
Not being disrespecful of the ultimate topic of suicide, though. That part of this story is very, very sad. That and the part about his family.

The reason why he wanted to be away from the front of the hotel was because the Monon (officially known at the time as the Chicago Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad) ran down the middle of the street right in front of the Lahr Hotel. The Monon mainline remained in place until it was relocated by CSX in the mid 1990s. I'll bet those steam locomotives made quite a racket while they were rolling down 5th Street!

That was one of the most bizarre stories ever Ron! The planning and thought that Mr. Moon put into this invention to accomplish his suicide- just makes you shake your head. That poor maid, how horrible for her to have to see that! I wonder if his service in the war brought on PTSD as it likely did for many. The crows were just everywhere and then eerily fell silent, oh wow!! Rest in Peace, Mr. Moon. Ron, great job on this 👏

That is horrifying! Surely he could have found a better way, that is just gruesome and so messed up! And oh that poor maid! He was surely out of his mind not only for what he did but to know that someone would find him like that. 😞

Was Eric Draven nearby? 😆😅🤣😂 I had to go there when you pointed out the crows and they were yelling! The Crow is my favorite movie, and of course, there are some beautiful cemetery scenes in that movie!

MrBallin did a very similar story about a young man building a guillotine in his room over a couple of weeks & used it to behead himself while his father slept inthe next room. The episode is called " You'll never guess what was hidden in this home " if you want to check it out.
