There's westwood (west=left) and eastbay (east=right) teams. when assigning legions to a specific teams the game will first check what legions have captured the treasure cities. Legions that have captured the cities will 100% be assigned to that team. Then the game assigns another legion as your ally based on affiliation, which is gained by capturing west or east towers. EXTRA NOTES: If two legions have captured treasure cities (TC)- * If the two legions without TC have same affiliation or no affiliation then they will be randomly selected into a team. This could happen if the legions with TC stole all westwood and eastbay towers somehow or if they gained control of towers but not the TC... ex: golden takes northwest tower. azure takes southwest tower but crimson takes the western TC. if this happens golden and azure will be randomly chosen into the west team, unless azure has east affiliation too by capturing towers in the east side. * If only one legion without TC has eastbay affiliation (while the other one has no affiliation) then they will be prioritized and teamed up with the east side. It is most difficult for golden and jade to team up. This is because they can't capture towers or treasure cities on the same side for the faction allocation. however, it is still possible for them to end up in the same team in special circumstances. for instance, if golden has taken all westwood towers and TC. then they'll 100% end up on west side. if crimson and azure take the eastbay towers etc so that jade is without affiliation, then jade will be given the remaining team spot on west side. It's basically only possible for them to team up if one of them or both of them don't have affiliation (no towers or TC)
It's not paired by flip of a coin. It's matched by who took what 1st. So in your example crimson would be with gold. As they took the 6 before the south legion. So it would be crimson and gold. Now if south legion took it before crimson. 5hen 5hey would be paired with gold. Again it's not a flip of a coin. It's based off who took what 1st and who still holds what at re set.
