This has me so inspired at a time where I definitely need it, I’ve been struggling with myself and life and I’ve been needing a way to escape into art but haven’t been feeling motivated or good enough, but due to you I’m getting back into it
where have you been????? how could i not see your amazing content till now while im always searching about character design on youtube!!! i just wanna tell you thank you i have come across your videos at a time i really needed ...this is so amazing im gonna work on my portfolio and take notes from your videos..pls continue with your amazing content
Great character design ! I'm almost done with my first character and I can't wait to do the others too ! Amazing challenge Hardy, it's good to be a part of this and it pushes me to finish my projects faster ! thanks a lot ! :)
Everything is so insipiring, I’m gonna get this challenge as a personal challenge to grow. Especially when I see your knowledge about anatomy. Man, is so impressive. Congrats.
I've been stuck on trying to get proper perspective with my art lately. Its a challenge but I'm training my brain, doing the work. Great video as per usual Hardy!
I think that happens to us all and I hope it is short lived for you. It sounds like you have the right attitude - just keep chopping away :) Thanks for watching!
@@fowlerillus Carlos is certainly inspirational. I really like his sculptures, too. Could you make a video about your workspace and set-up? I'd be interested about those sort of details. Thanks again, Hardy. :)
I remember you saying you studied something like "medical anatomy artistry" (I ruined that lol). Is that why you start with the red? (Muscles, tendons, etc.)
I'm not sure honestly. I sincerely don't remember what got me started using that red but I think it came from painting people and creatures more than anatomical paintings. That could definitely be a subconscious factor though!
4 days ago when you uploaded your video about character design, I had the same idea in my mind for a portfolio and when I saw your video, it felt like a real deja vu😂. BTW you're so inspiring and I really love your courses on Udemy❤
I forgot to talk about the real problem tho😅 I only had a week ( or should I say 6 days) to design 5 characters and then composing everything in one frame to complete it. 2 days are left and I have never designed a character before that, and be now I'm done with 4 characters, just one more left and then I'll compose everything for thw final.
BTW, I want to take this challenge seriously which you're talking about and I'll make another group of characters for this challenge, because you're helping me, a big thanks for reading me❤ Thank you for educating us for free on TH-cam ❤❤❤
Did you join the current Artstation Challenge? I joined and currently working on my characters. 😅 I'm taking too much time cause I'm rendering using my mouse 😅😅😅
I need to check that out - it was totally coincidental making the same challenge in the same month but I would love to participate in that one too. I wonder if I can just use these same characters?
Welcome and thanks! It's a process of very slowly building up tones with low flow and opacity (so you have control) and then refining by picking up colors with the dropper tool and then laying them back down repeatedly which has an averaging effect that smoothes things out. That's it in a nutshell.
Hello Hardy! First of all thanks for this project, it's really inspiring. In addition to that, you rendering is so beautiful! Both two characters look incredibly real. I'm so bad at rendering ahaha and I just want to ask, would "skillbuilder" tier be helpful for me?
Hi, nice to meet you. I'm so glad you're enjoying this one. Yes, I would definitely recommend checking out Skillbuilder. I am also very close to releasing a course on fundamentals that covers how I render.
Okay Hardy I hope this isn't rude or unprofessional to ask, but do you have any brush packs available for sale? The brushes you sketch and paint with seem so clean on the initial and ending stroke. I know there are some artists out there who think it's unprofessional to ask, but I thought I would give it a shot 🤷♂
Hey @hardyfowler, loving your content (I've only recently found your channel). Can I ask a boring Photoshop question? How are you flicking the brush opacity up and down while you're rendering? I noticed particularly when you were doing the base orange render on his face that the brush opacity was flicking between 30-60-90 constantly. Again, thanks for your content. It's really inspiring and this video series is great as I'm trying to build a portfolio right now. Thanks for all the hard work 👍👍 Much love, from London, England
Always happy to talk Photoshop. You can adjust brush opacity with keyboard shortcuts. Just hit the number and it will adjust opacity by factors of ten (so 3=30, 9=90 etc,). You can also adjust flow in much the same way but just hold shift and then hit the numbers. Keyboard shortcuts are the best!
@@fowlerillus thanks dude! Super helpful. I love a keyboard shortcut. I recently discovered the tilda key shortcut to use your current brush as an eraser. Literal game changer! You're awesome bro, looking forward to the rest of the series. Also, thanks for the 'Day in the life' video where you painted that awesome tree and talked about your experiences in the industry. That was really encouraging 👍
Standard photoshop round brush. I am adjusting the hardness quite often but holding down shift and using the bracket keys but other than that, it's more about keeping flow and opacity very low and tapping repeatedly to get control
It definitely varies depending on the job. I can't really publicize my rates here but it's all a factor of how many hours will be involved. Sorry, I know that it is not at all helpful but I would definitely point you towards the jobs discussion channel in the DPS discord community to get a better idea of what artists are charging.
Ah I totally see what you mean. Oh well, I really like that giant hand anyway so I'll just say it was a super loose grip or something :) thanks for the feedback
They way this is rendered is so inspiring. Makes me want to render something right now lol.
Thanks man!

Wow that is so great to hear. Art can be such a refuge. Good luck and I hope that the other stuff gets easier :)
Seriously, the clearness /sharpness of your lines and brushwork is always something to inspire.
I really appreciate that. Thank you
Your brush work is insanely good and reminds me a bit of Carlos Huante's style. The only thing wrong here is the gun's perspective.
I love Carlos Huante! That is high praise indeed. I totally see what you mean about the hand but oh well :)
I think the other great thing about squads is that they inspire one's imagination about what must bring such different characters together.
Oh totally - I love that. Any favorite squads that I haven't mentioned?

I wish you'd post this character on IG or artstation so I could just pull it up once a day and admire it :D
Aw thanks. I definitely will! Once I have the whole squad finished I'll post the whole group and each individual.

It was awesome to catch a glimpse of how you think.
