When I was growing up in Sacramento my father would take us to San Francisco and we crossed this bridge every time. This video brings back so many good memories. Thank you for making this video.

I remember going over this bridge a million times when I was young child. Now a grown man who is grand father age it really makes u think how short our lives are.

When Dad was home from working on the train, we crossed this bridge to go pick up Mom from her job @ Korets of California from arounfd 64-72. Back in the 60's, one could use the upper or lower half of the bridge to go either way; east-west and i would always insist on taking the top tier so i could see the view each way. I miss the old girl...
You look like the Golden Gate Bridge
This is probably why I love San Francisco so much. It's because of the Bay Bridge. The tunnel with all the lights is probably my favorite part of the whole bridge. I just laugh every time I see it. Ahh, good memories, good times.
My birthday is on August 28th. I fell in love with this magnificent American wonder since I was born, which made me interested in bridges for a hobby and making me want to become a civil engineer. This was my most favorite out of all bridges even the Golden Gate, which was ranked #2 to me. But, yes it's sad, but it was good to know I got to cross and enjoy it for exactly 20 years of my life, and I will miss the old drive. But, I look forward to the new span as it starts a chapter for my life and the Bay Bridge's.

I still live in the Bay Area, and I like watching these older Bay Bridge videos just to see the pre-Salesforce Tower skyline :P

The old one collapsed
I crossed this bridge for the last time August 27, 2013 😔😔😢 ... moving back next month and will finally experience the new bridge.. #memories
Recently they changed the westbound exit to Yerba Buena Island from the left side to the right. It's opened up a new part of the island that most traffic never saw. They have some lame barriers blocking other parts of the island, halfway tempted to go around them every time I drive by just to see the old Yerba Buena streets before they tear it all up and change it.

I used to live in Antioch I would always go to San Francisco and cross the old bridge San Francisco rocks
We had a similar thing happen in 1995 in Delaware, when the State Rt. 1 Turnpike bridge (a cable-stayed bridge similar to the new Eastern Span and the Skyway Bridge in FL). The adjacent St. Georges Bridge was going to be torn down, but wad rehabbed for the locals (their town is divided by the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal).
That bridge was demolished and gone on 3/28/2017.

I always liked the shadows on the road from sunlight going through the box beams and because the beams were the same pattern the rows of them would telescope into the distance with the near ones passing overhead. Also the family memories of driving every Tuesday to pick up my son from his fencing practice in SF then returning home to Oakland.

I used to live on treasure island in the 80s working for young adult conservation corps , we had our own barracks and we got to eat at the chow hall , that was a cool job 🙂
What an awesome architectural and infrastructure marvel these bridges and highways are coupled with the magnificent skyline of San Francisco. I don't care what anybody thinks America is freaking awesome!

Very nice, good job. I've never driven over that bridge and now never will, guess this is as close as I will come. However I HAVE driven over the George Washington Bridge at the other end of I-80.
Can't wait to drive across the new span when I get down there in a few months!

Fantastic video! I have been to San Francisco before but have never crossed the San Fran-Oakland Bay Bridge. San Francisco is such an eclectic and interesting city (and without doubt one of a kind!) I live in Virginia but I hope to make it back sometime in the near future. The bonus footage at the end was quite nice too :)
I've been on ALL of them-the S.F. Bay bridge, Golden gate, San Rafael, Benecia-Martinez, Carquinez, San mateo, Dubarton, and even the Antioch way out east of Carquinez strait.

Lol I still think that it’s there cause I still remember this growing up I just have to remember it’s now the smaller white bay bridge now. Wish I had an iPhone back then cause now it’s a rare look back.

Amazing how many more German and American cars there were back in just 2013! Now, those German and American cars are long in the scrapper, having been replaced by newer Japanese cars. Also amazing how most of those Japanese cars seen in the video are still here today! Japanese reliability, durability, efficiency, longevity, and afforability for the win!

yallow rosa He said it had recently undergone a major refurbishment and there were no plans to replace it. As it's a suspension bridge I expect it's a lot less susceptible to being damaged by an earthquake than a steel truss bridge like the old eastern span.

Back in the day, passenger cars used the upper deck and commercial traffic used the lower deck.

San Francisco's losing its soul and character, and turning into a craphole. The Transbay Terminal project and the new east span of the Bay Bridge are a good example. And Candlestick Park is another huge loss. 10-15 years from now, you won't hardly recognize the place.
It was what I saw in 1989 after the 🌎🌍 series wasn't on....I crossed over so many times in my life...I was horrified when I saw it...I was born in SF in 1953 ...so I've been across both bridges many times....🌹💖🦋🇺🇸🇺🇦

question, if you were to fall off the bay and golden gate bridges, would you survive? because isn't that a bay. If you fell in to the Detroit river there is a current and you would not survive. Question could you survive?
Falling off the bridge? No, you wouldn't.
Bridge is above water
Believe it or not, a few people have survived, but your chances aren't very good. The GGB is the 2nd or 3rd most popular place in the world to commit suicide. From that height it's not much different than hitting solid cement.

I certainly accept what you have written - definately more difficult than some people make out to overcome fear of driving.
Be careful and seek advice from other people. I looked a few sites and found a lot of good help by searching google on websites such as Roys Quick Fix. Good luck and hope you are successful!
