    Great to see the mob moving Greg!! I just started about 2 weeks ago...moving the cows twice a day!! YOU ARE RIGHT!!! IT"S AMAZING!! The cows are fatter, grass is better despite the drought! Take care guys! lol Edit: Yep I fed 2 bales the other week to let the pastures ahead of the cows recover a few more days...then the rain hit and exponential growth! Thank goodness I had my Greg Judy Bale unroller!

    We are on on the same path grass is burnt up and ponds dry also.
    Watching this July 25 and more drought and heat.

    Thanks for the video! I hope you get some rain soon. We got a rain not to long ago, and it was dry here too. After the rain, you could see the pasture grow each day, and it turn back to green too. After watching and talking to you, I don’t mow anything because they eat aren’t picky eaters. At first I thought everything was a weed that was not a grass or normal feed stuff. They do eat Canadian thistles, but now it is way too mature. I’m going to mow them or more like a weed eater because I don’t like driving over rest of the pasture with the tractor.

    We were in Branson last weekend. It was amazing how dry you all were in that part of Missouri and Arkansas. Thought it was just us over here in Oklahoma. We live in North Central Oklahoma and looks about same. Had to slow down our rotation due to not enough shade with this heat. Guess that is why we need to change to red hide cattle. LOL! Stay Cool!!!

    Tall grass and fat cattle, when the grass is tall the cattle can get fat. I remember Greg Bran saying something about the bison moving to be clean and not to get more grass. This is making sense to me as I walk through the paddock the cattle are presently in, the grass is still tall, but it smells of urine and manure. I have a theory that there was much more trampling of the grass than was being consumed. They moved on quickly as to have a new clean buffet each day. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

    Hello, folks. This drought depends on how come huracans so from the atlantic ocean and the gulf of mexico, also from the pacific. Howthe nature force has to respond. Where am I, in South Sonora, Mexico; we have a lot dry wells thats because the rains hasn't be enoguh to recharge aquifer mantles. But still we have the rest of summer even september and october a hurricane tail can still arrive. In my ranch until the moment have 5 inches of rain and there is still hope. courage folks

Changed my plan going to reset the timer and after the drops I will spend 45 minutes out in the yard transplanting the seeds I started last week I can’t believe how big they have grown I wonder if is due to the sheep manure compost that I mixed with the soil. Extreme SW Missouri here. VERY dry. It came a good rain on June 5th...since then we've had 2/10". I remember the 2012 drought and the 1980 drought as well. Fed hay in July those two times...since then, I've begun rotational grazing with several reels. I have a LITTLE bit of bermuda and some Red River Crabgrass...but mostly (3/4) fescue...which of course is dormant right now. *knock on wood*, I haven't fed any hay yet...and it's July 27th. We are looking to get some rain these next 3 or 4 days! YES! I'm planning to go ahead and begin stock-piling a patch of bermuda to strip-graze beginning in October. Will also stock-pile fescue beginning next month for strip-grazing beginning December...of course I am banking on some timely fall rains! Thanks so much for taking the time to do your videos! I have learned a lot from y'all.

  • @nolawnnate5934
    @nolawnnate5934 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Greg, seems like you are feeding hay time to time during spring and summer, making that call based on where the bales are set, almost as if to get rid of the hay and use it up before it goes bad, or strategically placed to heal soil. Does that sound accurate?

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, we only feed hay in the winter. Trying to feed old hay to livestock in the growing season is a good way to have your cattle lose weight. If there is green grass available, never feed hay. It is strictly insurance, hope you don’t need it but sometimes you do.

    How much hay per head per year is typical with regenerative grazing?

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on your rain accumulation you get from August 15th to Oct 1st. Good rain fall allows us to grow a lot of winter stockpile forage. No rain in the fall, lower your stocking rate and this allows less hay feeding in the winter.

      @Jonathan Bohl At Greg's grazing school, a little more than a year ago, i seem to recall him saying he used 300 bales, and I'm pretty sure he had about 300 head at the time. But i didn't write it down, we were walking with the cattle in th pasture, and i dont remember numbers well, so I'm not confident about the number bales. And I think some of that was to bring a poor piece of land up to snuff.
