    Man, I’ve been leaning how to play guitar from you ( on TH-cam) for probably the last seven years. From Robin Trower, Jimi, to Eddie Van Freakin Halen ! I’m just a working class guitar player, so your TH-cam lessons have been my “ Go-to” ! Just wanted to say thanks 👍 Keep on rockin 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

    For someone who’s just now figuring this out it seems very overwhelming, but you’re the only one who’s ever made it clear, so thank you very much. I’ve been playing Hendrix’s version of Like A Rolling Stone since I started, and I was in the same boat where I could never figure out how to make it sound great like he could, so really, thank you.

      @@BrettPapa it not only sounds awesome, but the burst is about as good as it gets. I'm goofy in the head for bursts of any make or model because no two are exactly alike. (I love my speckled pigeons for the same reason) When the transition is subtle, it's pure class.
      "Clown bursts" are the least favorite because they look amateurish and they're not subtle at all.
      You're teaching something here that's right on target for me just now. All the great rock heroes are still heroes, but lately I've been gravitating towards the Memphis soul/ Muscle shoal thing, and guys like Cropper, Curtis Mayfield, Cornell Dupree, and others of that persuasion have captured my interest. I'm drawn to the economy of notes, the clean Strat and Tele sound, and the tight precision and excellent taste those guys have on the Motown and Memphis stuff. It just feels like grown-up musicianship, and it says so much with so little. The grooves are also golden. I think the concepts you're pointing out in this vid will go a long ways towards helping me get a better grasp of what's going on in this genre.
      For that I offer heartfelt thanks. Liking and subbing right now.

    I've been doing this for a few years. I'm usually under instructions to watch shows like Masterchef when I'd rather be playing the guitar. I'll usually sit in front of the TV with a Strat and solo acoustically against whatever background or incidental music is playing at the time. I've found that my melodic playing is much better because I have to listen intently and try to follow the changes.

    I think Brett’s teaching videos are excellent, and as soon as I may, I will look to join. I must say though-as a suggestion, not a criticism-I do find the idea of thinking of the second position pentatonic over the first position chord, I.e. over an A chord think 2nd position pentatonic ( really G position, two) for the Hendrix-style double-stops, is counterintuitive. It’s a nice idea, but, for me at least, one that I find makes me have to think too hard about it. Maybe if Brett said “think G pentatonic position two over the A” it would feel more natural-like any chord substitution idea (yes, I realise it isn’t). Anyway, just a thought, coupled with a thank you for the charm, wit and humility of Brett’s lessons. 👏👏👏👏

    • @BrettPapa
      @BrettPapa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jeff's guitars are fantastic. All of my Strats are different and made by different people all are great but each have their own character. Jeff is a ferocious player so all of his guitars play and are set up great. Great sounding as well. I ended up selling mine back to the original owner because he was so heartbroken that he sold it. I WILL be getting another one of my own soon. I think he only offers up what he makes these day so I am not positive you can order custom stuff anymore. Best thing to do would be to just call Jeff. He is a great guy! His guitars are fantastic and you won't regret getting one.

    Great lesson! I got lost a bit in the beginning I would like to see a lesson on how to sit on the sofa with your wife and watch a show( I get that) it's the part where you grab your guitar and learn the songs while sitting with her. Very few guitarist can pull that off without getting hammered on well done😉👏👏👍

    Hey Brett, you mentioned "sixes." Do you know where I can find a lesson on that? Ive searched everywhere. I dont really know what their called. Someone also referred to them as thirds or fourths.

    You know what's fun with the tv on is putting it on one of those radio like music stations. I usually put it on a blues or r&b stations and just try to be part of the band. If you start getting too frisky it sounds shitty pretty quickly. Makes you figure the key and melody line in a hurry
