- Peacocks also have softer vocalizations used for communication. These might include clucking, trumpeting, or "meowing" sounds. Peahens, the females, don't have the same loud calls as peacocks. They typically make quieter sounds like clucks or cackles. The loud calls of peacocks are thought to be a way to attract peahens and establish dominance over other males.
