Best game ever! best soundtrack, best characters best story best... everything really. Back in the day JRPG really put a ton of effort in their music which would tie perfectly to mood. Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, Zelda OOT, Lunar, Breath of Fire IV... I had an amazing childhood.
Let's make this more complicated! A remake would be nice, but a true completed game would be better. For those who don't know, the 2nd disc of Xenogears was rushed so most events were just told to you as text with Fei sitting in a chair. This is the most glaring issue with Xenogears. The story is fantastic, but it was just text or very simple cutscenes and I don't think modern gamers would appreciate that. I wouldn't want a 1 to 1 remake, I want this game to be completed properly. This would mean either getting a team from Square to check the vault and build off of old documents to make disc 2 properly, or get Nintendo/Monolithsoft involved to do the remake. It would most likely end up being a Nintendo exclusive, but it would be a full Xenogears game. The same might go down with a Xenosaga collection. We could either get a simple HD port or they go to Nintendo/Monolith and have them revise the series and bring the Xenosaga franchise home to Monolithsoft. Same with Xenogears, the latter would mean it's a Nintendo Exclusive, but we get a pure Xenosaga series as it should have been, 5 episodes. With how much Monolithsoft have evolved, going back to the simple nature of Xenogears/Saga might mean they could pump out the true form of these games with little issue. Xenogears would retain its 2d sprite/3d environment look and Xenosaga would have closed off sections/zones. They are much simpler to make when compared to Xenoblade. Going all out FF7 Remake on Xenogears/saga with Nintendo/Monolith involved would of course be the best result out of all this. The "Monkey-Paw" consequence would be that it's a Nintendo exclusive. Nintendo would have to pay up for it's development as they are paying Monolithsoft. Nintendo did save Bayonetta from being a 1-off action title and the first game is still being sold on other consoles with no issues, so them being involved with a Xenogears/saga remake isn't too farfetched to consider. The original port could be on other consoles while the revision version is a Nintendo exclusive. Open world, full sized cell-shaded character, completed disc 2, that's the dream right there.
Some very good points made in regards to the challenges of a Xenogears remake. In regards to my other post about a Vagrant Story remake though, I feel like it has a better chance of happening for reasons you point out in the video: - Champion: Vagrant Story absolutely has a very influential champion, and that is Yoshi-P (aka Naoki Yoshida) who is a huge Matsuno fan and loves all his games. I mean, just look at all the Vagrant Story references in FFXVI. - Original staff: Many of the original staff of Vagrant Story are either still at Square, or have a good working relationship with them. Matsuno has written two scenarios for FFXIV, and supervised Tactics Ogre Reborn. Minagawa is still at Square, most recently as the art director of FFXVI. Sakimoto, Yoshida (character designer), Maehiro, etc. are also still at Square or have worked with them recently. - Appeal: Vagrant Story, while very much its own thing, does have a lot of that Souls-like DNA in it, and these games are hugely popular now. It's crazy how ahead of its time this game was way back in 2000, which was 9 years before Demon's Souls. Probably the biggest hurdle that a Vagrant Story remake faces is that it wasn't very popular in Japan when it released, although it sold decent numbers in NA and Europe. But the Japanese audience didn't connect with it. But seeing the shameless homages/references to it in FFXVI, as well as the popularity of Clive (an older protagonist like Ashley) makes me hopeful! :) :) :)
Who said I haven’t? Plus it’s to show them that they’re a demand for such. Not everyone feels comfortable about using an emulator. Plus I still have my US and JP copies as well.
If square enix was to remake it or even put out a HD remaster.. I would purchase without question. I would purchase the collector's edition if they had it. Xenogears is my favorite game of all time
lol It’s realistic considering how much buzz there is around the ‘Xeno’ prefix due to the Xenoblade series (releasing more content for the previous two Xeno series would not be met with silence after the success of the ‘blade series), and understandable considering how good ‘gears and the ‘saga trilogy are.
Excellent dissection! I wanted a Xenogears remake for over ten years, but honestly I already have it now: Xenoblade 3. It’s everything I ever wanted from a Gears remake and more. So I’m content now (Future Redeemed was a nice bonus but frankly I wanted more Noah and Mio… Oh well, maybe Xenoblade 4)
I started my "Xeno" journey with Xenoblade, but I always had a fascination with the Gears and Saga (especially the music!!). I just want a legal means to play those titles on modern platforms, so I'm more excited on the prospect of a remaster/remake (heck, even a port). But "Xenoblade 4" is always more exciting; the whole point of X3 / FR makes the statement that the creators at Monolith Soft really have moved on and just want to make new experiences. Them being involved in a Xenogears remake (or even a XCX port) seems counterintuitive to that whole meta-theme they've put forward.
I agree with you on most of what was said here but I still think square enix still sees value in the xenogears brand. They still make merch and feature things from xenogears in their other games. Theatrthym got songs from xenogears as dlc. They also recently made a figure of one of the gears as well. I think there is a champion in square keeping it alive by having those things made . They just need a way to convince them a remaster or remake would sell well.
I'm a huge Xenogears fan since it's first release on ps1. I would like a remake, but I agree with your points. The legality of the game is very complicated. I would be fine if they just release the original on psn store available for ps4 and ps5. But it is what it is, xenogears belongs to Square Enix, but it is not a Square Enix game. A re-release may be the best we could get.
Kind of feels like a Xenosaga HD collection from Bandai Namco is more likely than a Xenogears remake from Square Enix at this point. I wonder, how much more likely a Xenogears remake is if a Xenosaga HD collection is brought to the Switch (or Switch successor)? Probably doesn't change much, but it might set a precedent for Square Enix to also act in a similar way. There would be a large web of complications, and it would still be very unlikely. Unfortunately, Xenogears might be stuck behind a lot of work that no one wants to spend the money and manpower on. Here's hoping that Star Ocean: The Second Story R sells well enough that Square Enix will greenlight smaller projects, even if Xenogears isn't possible for them. Just space the releases out more Square Enix, give the games their time to flourish.
I do think that if Bandai namco can work things out with Monolithsoft/Nintendo and find enough value in making a xenosaga HD collection that would likely significantly increase the chances of SE doing something with Xenogears It could even like double the odds!! From 1% to 2% :P
I think there's some things to consider in support of a remake though 1. SE hasn't been shy about capitalizing off Xenogears. They've been doing a lot of merch (especially this year) for it. While this isn't necessarily interfering with Nintendo Xenoblade property as a game on other platforms would, it shows at some level they're testing waters. 2. Mentioned in this video several times is Super Mario RPG. Whose to say that there wasn't some backroom talks between Nintendo and SE that were something along the lines of Nintendo being like "We want Super Mario RPG" and SE being like "Okay but we want to do a Xenogears remake with monolith involvement" or some kind of discussion similar to that. Entirely conjecture, but since the relationship with Nintendo has been good (compared to the damaged relationship they had when SE switched over to making playstation games) I think there's definitely more room for negotiations 3. Hell, given how well Xenoblade has done for Nintendo, I could see them requesting the remake themselves (with absolute exclusivity of course) Why? Well it saves them money from having to come up with a Xenoblade 4 right away. If they already have a game they can work from instead of having to work entirely from scratch, then I could see it being an attractive prospect for them. At the very least giving the Xenoblade crowd ( which contains a lot of people who never experienced gears) something to spend money on and keep interest until stuff for Xenoblade 4 is able to be trickled out 4. The whole CEO thing.. I thought I heard the opposite. Or at least one of the higher ups recently ending up at SE talking about having grown up with a lot of the classics. And thee being talks of doing more of those kinds of games vs triple As (particularly when a lot of their recent triple A stuff has not really performed especially that amazing) I could be misremembering or mistaking but that's the vibe I've gotten whenever I've caught news with SE Of course, it's possible it might never happen.. But I have a feeling at the very least we'll get a Radical Dreamers edition situation (which is essentially just the original Chrono Cross running on an emulator) I wouldn't be surprised if something more than that came along, but I can't imagine they'll not do SOMETHING
Imagine the moment fei accepts ID making a deal with the demon to destroy God, with running from the daylight playing in the background, building up, while try vel tall transforms into xengear. A remake sells itself
Xenogears is a story that should be told.I afraid newer younger people wont get a ps1 and the dated graphics and tech compared to current gen console would turn off newer gamers.I love this game.
From what i read on different forums, they wanted them to finish the game at the end of Solaris. Since that itself can be a 60h+ venture, but that would leave the game in a very bad state story wise, so the team decided to push trough and make a huge chunk of the second disc in to a visual novel style of game. I will always hate Square for the fact that they did not give them a few extra months to finish the game as they originally wanted to. Remember that they had to make the engine from scratch from this game, and in general learn how to code for PS1, so they lost a ton of time just on that. Xenogears is my favorite JRPG of all time, it just clicked with me so much when i started to play it. Story/Characters/World/Music/Combat System, it's all fantastic for me. And just like other ppl have asked for, i would be happy if we just got a working PS1 version on modern systems. Better that than nothing.
We would get a HD remaster/rerelease first to test the waters before a remake. Better models and and new anime story scenes, maybe thats a solution to disc 2. But it would be great to one day see a full remake like we are getting w/ ff7.
i think it may happen due to there a link in ff7 when cloud was comatose he was saying xenogear . what i would do is wait till it happens in game then announce it.
If you think about there are actually two instances in final fantasy VIi where a comotose cloud mentions xenogears on is more obvious that the other. Originally in the original psx FFVII cloud says xeno gais which phonetically is xenogears. And in the remastered version for Xbox and PS4 in that same sequence cloud says a whole paragraph about angels and what not I forgot everything this he actually said but it still relates to xenogears
Keep making videos like this and promote the shit out of them and maybe they'll get the idea we want this game remade and fully realized. Thanks for putting this video together dude!
If takahashi can step in again for remake of disc 2 then yes, is that possible? Nah. Square wants the full ownership of xenogears and takahashi is the story owner so both want the full rights imo. Dirty from Square since they pushed aside Takahashi back then when making FF7, in the end was for the best so Tetsuya could leave them.
If I ever become a billionaire, I will 100% make this happen for all the real ones. And I guarantee you I will become beloved for it. My name would go down and video game history.
As a person who still plays xenogears to this day through emulation since i dont have my psx and more and my ps2 died. I understand where your coming from and i agree with your points but i do hope square brings xenogears back in a remaster or even a full on remake ala FFVII remake one the game deserves it andnit deserves to be played by more people. And 2 xenogears was the orginal intention for for FFVII but square said the games story was too dark to carry the FF name thats part of the reason for cloud mentioning xenogears in FFVII while he is comotose at the mideel clinic before je falls into the lifestream with tifa during ultima weapon's attack
Are xenogears or xenosaga worth the expensive price tag? The xenoblade series is one of my all time favorites. So im always wanting to play the older titles
no at all and they play nothing alike. Xenosaga is about as polar opposite to Blade as humanly possible. Saga is much more like the first ten hours of FF 13 stretched into three games. Gears is a super clunky ps1 RPG that had all the ambition in the world but some truly baffling design execution.
People keep suggesting ports but the issue is SE probably doesn't have the source code around anymore. So they would still have to spend development time and money to recreate the games to run properly or even look decent. I'd love to see a P.E. remaster but really the only hope of that is a reboot in some form.
I mean Konami a Japanese company had no issue making a remake of mgs 3 without Kojima. So technically it's possible for SE to do the same, the real problem is who's gonna be the producer for a xenogears remake.
Would definitely like to see at least some kind of re-release of Xenogears, whether it be a remake or remaster. But the one I really want is VAGRANT STORY!! Come on, Square! A Vagrant Story remake would be incredible!
The last thing Square wants is to deal with that mess, no one who made it works at the company, probably doesn't have good sales projections, it would require a new translation, a rework for the second cd, it's not worth at all for them. The only way something Xenogears related would happen is if Monolith Soft actually approached them, and even them Monolith would probably need to make it themselves.
Meeting folks who have even heard of this game these days seams to be very rare. This is my #1 on the PS1. A jrpg bench mark for greatness, at least on playstation. What i found the most interesting was, i heard it was originally going to be FF7. However it was made its own game because, something about it being to religious? That being said i love FF7. And even more so, this game Xenogears.
To me, I dont think Takahashi would want to be involved in working on Xenogears. From the limited things I know about the man, he seems to have a philosphy of trying new things and moving forward, not rehashing the past over and over... as any XC3 fan can probably appreciate.
because of the second ending of this game they should just remake it like ff7r. uhhh. they can comepletey redo the second disc and id like to see the mechs and combos with modern graphics
Star Ocean Second Story and Xenogears are 2 entirely different games idk if it’s fair to compare. Aside from both being rpgs the only thing they have in common is the 2D on 3D environment. Xenogears is PERFECT for a HD2D remake. If they can’t get monolith i bet they still have access to the original story as it would be SE property. They only need to make half a game aside from graphical upgrades.
Thats assuming Takahashi or his wife, or any of the other writers left some detailed company document explicitly stating what the script and story beats were, which of course they didn't.
Konami: Honor?! Don't make me laugh! (Delays Suikoden I and II to piggy back off of Eiyoden Chronicle's hype and marketing). Square Enix should take notes.
I don't want a remake of Xenogears if Takahashi isn't involved. It's his game and he deserves to finish his story properly. I understand that would be near impossible because the game would have to be a switch exclusive but I think if there's anyone who could do the remake properly it Tetsuya Takahashi
Unless MonolithSoft is involved, the only thing I'd want is a straight port. It was too personal to Takahashi and Saga to have anyone else mess with it. Honestly, I think HD remasters of the Xenosaga trilogy are more likely at this point, as SE just seem intent on milking Xenogears for merch. EDIT: Just watched the episode and agree with everything therein. Very well done!
A legitimate port to PC would be nice. Give it a once over, change button prompts and such - I don't need a full on remake. Xenogears is in my top 10 all time favorites, but it was a poor performer and was already kind of a niche-within-a-niche game from the beginning. As much as I would LOVE to see it get the FF7 treatment, same with Vagrant Story while we're here, I just don't ever see it happening. Hell, I doubt my wish for polished up port probably won't happen, but we can hope.
Boooo of all the games that need a remake it’s xenogears! The first half of the game is so good and the last portion wasn’t really finished so they just made it mostly text. They could right an extreme injustice by making it a complete experience what an absolute banger of a classic
The only reason xenogears didn't sell well back in the day is it came out around the same time as FF7 and got dwarfed by it I believe a remake of it would sell well nowadays 😅
I think people who want a remaster of xenogears need to try to replay it again. The first time you play the game it's amazing. The second time it's okay. The third time it's not that great. The thing that props up the game is the story and after you've heard the story, it's not that amazing. The cracks start to show themselves and it's actually not that impressive. It takes it down from a 8/9 first time playthrough to a 5 or a 6. The combat doesn't hold it up. The pacing is bad. The story doesn't hold up in a replay. There is a reason why xenoblade worked a lot better in a remaster and xenogears wouldn't.
Ouch! I've never played it but wanted too for so long! It's just hard to find it or xenosaga reasonably priced. My used game store wants $300 and I'm trying to trade towards it
@@Couick27 Buying it doesn't help anyone but the person selling it. Zero of the dollars go to the devs since it's being sold 3rd party now. Better off just emulating it.
@@Couick27 You can use the chd files for emulators instead of bin/cue or other formats. chd or compressed hunk of data is just a highly compressed format version of the .bin and will load fine on modern emulators. It's also for psx, aka ps1. If you want to make it simple, downloading duckstation and a bios rom pack for psx will work. Once installed it has a first time use that asks where the appropriate game files, bios roms, controllers, etc are.
I get the feeling that if it ain't Final Fantasy, SquareEnix won't bother wasting their time. A remake/remaster? Hmm... Sure, but I wouldn't count on it. But that's just my opinion.
I'm not sure the idea of them stepping on Nintendo's toes(aka optics) makes any sense when they make a remake of "Xeno"gears. That would be absolutely hypocritical of Nintendo or anyone if they started beef because of the effing title considering "Xeno"blade came after xenogears and by no means did Nintendo need to title it like that, they could have called it something else right? So why should it make Square look bad if Nintendo did the exact same thing.
I think most agree a full 3d xg is prob nigh impossible best we'll get is hd2d and even then that might be generous. Literally just need it ported to modern consoles more so. And if we do decide to do some wishful thinking, would they even add content like make the cut gameplay sections in disc 2 a real thing? honestly even if a rerelease would happen we'd prob get the bare minimum something like chrono cross radical dreamers. Sadly it'll prob never get the respect it deserves also another strike for switch exclusive is the game might not sell as much. I do think it can sell at least as much as original and maybe more but it might reach the expectations of xenoblade which itself isnt the biggest seller
Everything you said is already been discussed except the pettiness, grudges, notion of being disrespected and whatnot between corpo's and other childish stupid crap. However, because Squaresoft is the one who fukked up on not letting Takahashi finish Xenogears Disc 2 properly when all the other titles Squaresoft were doing and experimenting during the SNES through the PSX days should be the ones paying the bill. This isn't the only game Squaresoft fukked up on there's Vagrant Story too and Chrono series they are just not doing anything with it. They are not going to have more than one shot at this so make it a a true remake with the intention of fixing disc 2 and letting Takahashi actually complete the story within the scope of one game and any other fixes he wants to include within reason with full 3D environment using Star Ocean 2 R style. I rather it be in that then the HD 2.5 style like Octopath. If Monolith or Takahashi aren't involved then just remaster it like pixel remaster or something which I pressume is more likely because Square Enix are stupid and have been making more bad decisions then good and are financially not doing good because Enix executives don't know shyt about games like Squaresoft did back then. I don't have any hopes on their new CEO trying to get a game to be on the same level as Final Fantasy, the other stupid CEO's wasted time on doing that so now this CEO has to play catch up and guess what titles will do that which will cost money. Square can let the game be on Nintendo for a year before sharing it to other platforms as long as it comes to PC I'm cool with the idea. Why would it step on Nintendo's toes? It was Nintendo of Japan that greenlit Monolith soft and it was Nintendo of Europe that brought it to the English audience. Fukk Reggi when it comes to Monolith if it wasn't for his dumb ass and Nintendo of Europe stepping in we'd miss out on.Xenoblade. Who fit the bill on Super Mario RPG? I'm sure Nintendo is fitting the bill with the remake of Super Mario RPG. Why would it step on their toes? Square has had many exclusive games on the Nintendo platform that are still on that and no where else. It's not Square's fault Nintendo failed with Super Paper Mario on surpassing Super Mario RPG. I hear they might make Super Mario RPG 2 and if they do Nintendo cannot be the ones to do it it has to be Square otherwise it's going to suck.
I genuinely believe that the solution is to make MORE of Disc 1 like Disc 2. D1 suffers from enormous bloat and misallocated resources. There's a whole-ass arena fighter that is used for a minigame and is arguably better than the actual turn-based combat. Cut the Nortune Arena entirely, or turn that into VN-style delivery. it would save thousands of hours just there to work on Ramsus' conclusion. Secondly, the dungeons are almost all too long and convoluted. Just shorten and simplify for a remake and streamline it there. The insanity of fans wanting a 1-1 remake on a game that is regarded as a poster-child for misallocated resources is asinine and the demands on any developers that touch this to make it exactly as you, the fan reading this, have in your head are far too heavy a burden to move.
Haven’t watched the video going to watch now but want to put this comment to see if video creator has the same reasoning. Anyway, the reason it hasn’t and even likely won’t happen is… Nintendo While SE has every legal right to to rerelease or remake the game if they did so without at least getting the permission of Tetsuya Takahashi there is very much a chance that it could cause friction between SE and Monolithsoft which since Nintendo owns Monolithsoft (and the latter has been pretty successful with Nintendo) there is a chance that hypothetical friction could escalate all the way into Nintendo and result in SE and Nintendo starting hostilities or at the least go back to not being so friendly with each others Tl;dr SE hasn’t really touched Xenogears because they don’t want to make Nintendo mad
Star Ocean 2 r have since proved that the original dev team isn't required to succeed. I'd love a Xenogears remake, or even a remaster or simple port on modern consoles. Xenosaga and Xenoblade both have been huge let downs for me. 😢😢
They'll never revisit this game. They have to involve Takahashi and there's no way there isn't bad blood between him and Square after the BS Square pulled on Xenogears development... they practically sabotaged the development of it while simultaneously stealing some of the best parts from it for FF7, especially when it was originally pitched as FF7. Besides the issues involving Nintendo, there is a big pill for Square to swallow to even consider this... and there's way too much pride involved here for any of it to happen. The only way is for Square to give/sell the IP to Nintendo for them to the whole thing in house
Nintendo's Xenos, or even Namco's, are way different from Square's Xenogear ...eventhough it's from the same creator ...also Nintendo vibes wouldn't ever port a game as crude as Xenogears is ...I just can't stop imagining Shigeru Miyamoto covering his eyes in fright seeing such monster on his system ...I mean biblycal references, complicated storyline, all the morbid things that happens mid and later game... idk I think Shigeru wouldn't be able to sleep until he dies if that happens
Like i am saying to All videos in all different channels, NO DIFINETELLY IS A NO. No need this remake game now. Better to make a a new continuation History Like Xenoblade Chronicles X-2 than any thing from this. If is really a remake needed in from her i think the remake would be OBviously '' VARGRANT HISTORY 2'' any thing different from this is a Definitelly a NO.
I think it's in consideration at the very least due to how popular the series is new, but yeah there's a lot of factors that make a remake of Xenogears and a remaster of Xenosaga pretty precarious to say the least. My guess is that because Baten Kaitos got remastered it's very likely Xenosaga's remaster got greenlit alongside it in some sort of deal between Nintendo and Bandai Namco. I think there might be some issues with the games originally being on the PS2 though that may cause that remaster to have to be multiplatform, but I can see that one being exclusive to Nintendo Switch like Baten Kaitos if that's not a problem. I think we'll probably see that remaster happen next year or the year after if it got greenlit around the same time as Baten Kaitos because it's 1 more game than that and definitely needs more polishing than it needed. I think we'll probably see Xenoblade X DE on the Switch 2 in 2025 for its 10th anniversary and probably get a new Xenoblade game in 2026 to 2027. If Xenogears remake got greenlit not too long before Star Ocean 2 went gold I think we'll likely see it in 2026 or 2027. This is me being very speculative and optimistic though and Xenogears and Xenosaga could just be impossible remasters/remakes due to legal and development issues. I highly doubt that, but it's best to keep my hype in check since we've gotten bad news about Xenosaga in the past and just because things are looking much better for the franchise doesn't mean things we'd like to happen will happen.
Nothing Xeno could ever replace Gears. Always waited, but it turned into something that was never familiar. Valkyrie Profile paid more homage than Xenosaga ever could.
Xenogears is my 2nd fave RPG after the original FF7. It's such a shame that the game was so good but ultimately it got forgotten, unlike FF7 which well, became the behemoth that it is today. (And also since only last week too, still continuing)
A lot are saying, "Square Enix should sell the Xenogears IP to Nintendo." A stretch. Nintendo rarely does acquisitions. They're not Microsoft. Some will think "exclusivity deal, like Bayonetta 2, 3, Origins or Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3." Could be. But there are a lot of things to consider: 1. Xenogears remake will cannibalize sales of Nintendo's own JRPG. Why would Nintendo focus their efforts on that when Xenoblade is popular now? 2. Is Square Enix willing to pay MonolithSoft's employees should they desire their involvement at all? Nintendo can't be expected to foot the bill for their employees to work on another publisher's intellectual property that can be potential competition to their own product. 3. If MonolithSoft were to be involved, that will mean removing them from other projects under Nintendo such as Xenoblade, Zelda, Animal Crossing and the like. Don't think Nintendo will allow that. 4. The effort and money that'd required would be too much it won't be worth it. Nintendo has good financials, sure. But what about Square Enix? Even their big brand, Final Fantasy doesn't meet sales expectations nowadays. What makes us think Xenogears, a game which has a smaller fanbase can meet sales expectations? Even if a lot of us Xenoblade players buy it, it won't make that much money to break even.
All excellent points, and even without Monolithsoft, a remaster or port would have to be extremely cheap for Square at this point because like you said in 4, even FF isn't selling as it used to, and "Xeno" anything has only ever cracked 2 million sales just one time.
@@YoVideogames Some people have lucrative dreams, such as fixing Disc 2 with MonolithSoft's involvement. That'll cost money to rehaul. It'd be risky particularly for SQE if the remade/rehauled game doesn't meet sales expectations, assuming they'll foot the bill and pay MonolithSoft for their work.
As soon as Bart vacated his throne and mentioned reparations in Disc 2, you can put a fork in any real remake of that game you ever wanted. Even if they did one, they'd censor it so bad it would feel like propaganda.
Square Enix sux...., MAKE A REMAKE TO XENOGEAR INSTEAD OF FF CRAP oe at least make it as an anime.., and don t forget to bring back Mitsuda san for god sake🙏🙏
How do you think xenoblade games are so much better than Gears? The battle system is basic mmo. Stand press a button wait for cooldown, press again. Its so lame.
Stop asking for a Xenogears remake over this SO2 R. SO2 is a better fully complete game and Gemdrops did a really good job and it makes more sense for them to continue bringing other classic tri-Ace(do xenogears weebs even know this company) games like Valkyrie Profile R, Radiata Stories R(Games that will be lost to time as well). Also the owner/producer for Gemdrops worked on SO3 so i think he knows what this core community praising their work REALLY wants and its not Xenogears... Also didnt the game have a complete drop off in quality during disc 2? Im not saying the game doesnt deserve a Remake i just think the success of Gemdrops correlates more with what this new trajectory of SO and tri-Ace games means for the future.
stfu and pay better attention. The mention of Star Ocean 2R remake is simply a style choice of what the uploader is curious to see in a what if Xenogears remake since that game is becoming successful title for Square Enix, Tri-Ace, and Gemdrops.
Nintendo did save Bayonetta from being a 1-off action title and the first game is still being sold on other consoles with no issues,
so them being involved with a Xenogears/saga remake isn't too farfetched to consider. The original port could be on other consoles while the revision version is a Nintendo exclusive.
Open world, full sized cell-shaded character, completed disc 2, that's the dream right there.
I would love a Star Ocean-like remaster of Xenogears, and if they ever do I hope they can make a better "second disc"
Classic Masterpiece...personally closest game i know from the time that felt like a full fledge anime.
Lunar 1 and 2, too. The PS1 remakes.
Some very good points made in regards to the challenges of a Xenogears remake. In regards to my other post about a Vagrant Story remake though, I feel like it has a better chance of happening for reasons you point out in the video:
- Champion: Vagrant Story absolutely has a very influential champion, and that is Yoshi-P (aka Naoki Yoshida) who is a huge Matsuno fan and loves all his games.
A billion mirror fragments..... small.....light.....taken.....angel's.....singing voices.....zeno.....gias.....
Cloud. Ur Fd in the head. Lol. But thank you for the Xenogears title!
Personally I’d settle for a PSN release of the original game.
Same
Same
Why? Just use an emulator
Who said I haven’t? Plus it’s to show them that they’re a demand for such. Not everyone feels comfortable about using an emulator. Plus I still have my US and JP copies as well.
@@Donsanity shush
If square enix was to remake it or even put out a HD remaster.. I would purchase without question. I would purchase the collector's edition if they had it. Xenogears is my favorite game of all time
Only a matter of time before it gets remade. That Xenosaga trilogy port coming too, and both series may even get continuations.
Now that's what I call copium!
lol
It’s realistic considering how much buzz there is around the ‘Xeno’ prefix due to the Xenoblade series (releasing more content for the previous two Xeno series would not be met with silence after the success of the ‘blade series), and understandable considering how good ‘gears and the ‘saga trilogy are.
Excellent dissection! I wanted a Xenogears remake for over ten years, but honestly I already have it now: Xenoblade 3. It’s everything I ever wanted from a Gears remake and more. So I’m content now
(Future Redeemed was a nice bonus but frankly I wanted more Noah and Mio… Oh well, maybe Xenoblade 4)
I like the part when ID says. BUT DROPPING A WARSHIP ON ME IS CHEATING!
I do think that if Bandai namco can work things out with Monolithsoft/Nintendo and find enough value in making a xenosaga HD collection that would likely significantly increase the chances of SE doing something with Xenogears
It could even like double the odds!! From 1% to 2% :P
I think there's some things to consider in support of a remake though
Entirely conjecture, but since the relationship with Nintendo has been good (compared to the damaged relationship they had when SE switched over to making playstation games) I think there's definitely more room for negotiations
3. At the very least giving the Xenoblade crowd ( which contains a lot of people who never experienced gears) something to spend money on and keep interest until stuff for Xenoblade 4 is able to be trickled out
4. The whole CEO thing.. I thought I heard the opposite. Or at least one of the higher ups recently ending up at SE talking about having grown up with a lot of the classics. And thee being talks of doing more of those kinds of games vs triple As (particularly when a lot of their recent triple A stuff has not really performed especially that amazing) I could be misremembering or mistaking but that's the vibe I've gotten whenever I've caught news with SE
Of course, it's possible it might never happen.. But I have a feeling at the very least we'll get a Radical Dreamers edition situation (which is essentially just the original Chrono Cross running on an emulator) I wouldn't be surprised if something more than that came along, but I can't imagine they'll not do SOMETHING
Perhaps Second Story R is the blueprint of a remake but I agree this is a complicated situation
Mario rpg remake changed all of our mindsets
I don't want them to change anything about DIsk 2, keep it that way, it's fine.
no xenogears remake? now thats a fucking crime against humanity
Assuming Nintendo allows Takahashi to work with SE on this hypothetical remake, does Takahashi himself even wants it?
Imagine the moment fei accepts ID making a deal with the demon to destroy God, with running from the daylight playing in the background, building up, while try vel tall transforms into xengear. A remake sells itself
With Super Mario RPG remake, i believe Xenogears would happen.
Maybe they can correct the pacing on disc 2 in a remake
Disc one can end in a cliff hanger
i think it may happen due to there a link in ff7 when cloud was comatose he was saying xenogear . what i would do is wait till it happens in game then announce it.
If I ever become a billionaire,
I will 100% make this happen for all the real ones.
The only way for a remake to happen is for the original creators to get the IP themselves.
im just happy to get a remaster to be honest, a remake would be like a godsent. along with breath of fire 1 to 4
Would definitely like to see at least some kind of re-release of Xenogears, whether it be a remake or remaster.
It most definitely would have good sales projections the only problem is the second disc you have to do a lot of
Meeting folks who have even heard of this game these days seams to be very rare.
Xenosaga too
because of the second ending of this game they should just remake it like ff7r. uhhh. they can comepletey redo the second disc and id like to see the mechs and combos with modern graphics
It would be a guaranteed success. I don’t care for the stylization of the newer ones at all but there still good.
A spiritual successor seems to be a good option
Yeah that would be really crazy! Can't believe nobody ever did that.
after Star Ocean 2 i have hope :D
Tbh a remaster and just finish second disc would be fine
None of the other xeno games have literally anything to do with the cannon story of Xenogears.
I don't want a remake of Xenogears if Takahashi isn't involved. It's his game and he deserves to finish his story properly. I understand that would be near impossible because the game would have to be a switch exclusive but I think if there's anyone who could do the remake properly it Tetsuya Takahashi
Ngl I def thought I was the only one thinking about this game
I’d take a port of it on my Switch! Doesn’t even have to make a remake
Namco Bandai said in the past that they don't think there's an audience for a Xenosaga remaster, I believe.
@@Dzzy123 If memory serves, that was about four or five years ago. Things can change. Heck, Baiten Kaitos got a remaster.
After super mario rpg getting re releases I think will happen eventually
A legitimate port to PC would be nice. Give it a once over, change button prompts and such - I don't need a full on remake. Xenogears is in my top 10 all time favorites, but it was a poor performer and was already kind of a niche-within-a-niche game from the beginning. As much as I would LOVE to see it get the FF7 treatment, same with Vagrant Story while we're here, I just don't ever see it happening. Hell, I doubt my wish for polished up port probably won't happen, but we can hope.
man this brings back good old days, love to see this come back, really good games
Damn i hope a very rich person would just partner with toei and make xenogears an anime series. This game has the best story.
Legend of legaia?
Boooo of all the games that need a remake it’s xenogears! The first half of the game is so good and the last portion wasn’t really finished so they just made it mostly text. They could right an extreme injustice by making it a complete experience what an absolute banger of a classic
The only reason xenogears didn't sell well back in the day is it came out around the same time as FF7 and got dwarfed by it I believe a remake of it would sell well nowadays 😅
maybe they can just expand the story through a light novel instead of a game
Probably get a Wild Arms or Lunar remake before this.
...about that wild arms thing.....
Lunar been remade so many times already. It's on steam too...
I would be happy if they just make the second half playable. 😆
but they can make it like how they remade ff7
@SomeCanine I couldn't find the other disc's in roms and nothing for emulating ps2 or roms
Monolithsoft remaking Xenogears with involvement from Squaresoft sounds like a great idea 😬
Good news! They did! And Without Square! Its Called Xenoblade. and its even better then Gears!
Xenoblade 1 is already on my top spot for favourite RPGs (with Chrono Trigger) :) but we still need a Xenogears remake with Monolithsoft
I would love to see a remake but if let's say they can't I'll take a PlayStation like FF7,8,9.
Sadly it'll prob never get the respect it deserves
also another strike for switch exclusive is the game might not sell as much.
All I want is to watch Nico play it so I don’t have to lol
Haven’t watched the video going to watch now but want to put this comment to see if video creator has the same reasoning.
Anyway, the reason it hasn’t and even likely won’t happen is… Nintendo
While SE has every legal right to to rerelease or remake the game if they did so without at least getting the permission of Tetsuya Takahashi there is very much a chance that it could cause friction between SE and Monolithsoft which since Nintendo owns Monolithsoft (and the latter has been pretty successful with Nintendo) there is a chance that hypothetical friction could escalate all the way into Nintendo and result in SE and Nintendo starting hostilities or at the least go back to not being so friendly with each others
Tl;dr SE hasn’t really touched Xenogears because they don’t want to make Nintendo mad
Best RPG of all time!
Hopefully SquareEnix is too busy making a Final Fantasy 6 remake because I would love to see that game remade with the FF7 treatment.
If it can make money it will happen
Which is why it probably wont!
They remake legend of mana but xenogears no?
At least make the android version
Xenogears is my 2nd fave RPG after the original FF7. It's such a shame that the game was so good but ultimately it got forgotten, unlike FF7 which well, became the behemoth that it is today. (And also since only last week too, still continuing)
If you are going to remake Xenogears, you need to fix Xenogears, and they don't have the right people around to do it justice.
The remake would be garbage and ruin what makes xenogears unique.
A lot are saying, "Square Enix should sell the Xenogears IP to Nintendo."
A stretch. Nintendo rarely does acquisitions. They're not Microsoft.
Some will think "exclusivity deal, like Bayonetta 2, 3, Origins or Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3." Could be. But there are a lot of things to consider:
Once again problem is Nintendo
Star ocean 2 remake is great at 87 on metacritic.
Why it "might" not... It's not bro.
Who would even want this to happen? Does anyone actually think Square Enix would do this game any justice in 2023? Laughable. Just leave it alone.
None of the other xeno games have literally anything to do with the cannon story of Xenogears.
