I read this book in 5th grade (2005) and it immediately became my favorite as a kid. I’ve thought about this story many times since then but this is the first time since my original reading reliving Brian’s story. So wonderfully nostalgic!
I'm 35 now, but remember my 5th grade teacher reading this to us. It was the best part of the entire year. Now my wife is going to teach this to her first sixth grade class. We decided to listen to it together.
I had to read this in class back in 7th grade and that was back in '96...I drive tractor trailer and listen to audiobooks on the road, it's still as good as it was back then
I'm 44. My mom read this to me when I was I kid. I read it to youngest daughter when she was a senior a few years ago, and I'm reading (listening) right now for our next family colloquium. If you like these kinds of stories, you may enjoy Deep Survival; Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why. It's a compilation of survival stories like this, and they ate all true. From plane crashes, boats sinking, lost in the mountains, mountaineering accidents, snowmobiling incidents, etc. It's amazing how sometimes those you would think would live sometimes don't, and those you think would die actually live! (And you can learn what you'd need to know and do to live in ANY situation). Good luck with your school assignments. If you're not enjoying the book now, because you have to read it for school, try reading it again as an adult. You may find you really enjoy it. I can relate, though. I remember feeling that way about Silas Marner! (I still can't stand The Scarlet Letter, though!)
Nostalgia forsure those we great too if you've never read them you should check out among the hidden series a little more dystopian than most of the books I read when I was younger!
Ok so. I was reading this book in my classroom and I couldn’t concentrate on the book. So I looked for an audio book and found this. And I was so addicted to your voice I only could listen to this. Then sooner, I showed my teacher, and we all read the book and listen to this audio! Amazing voice!
read this book and it’s sequel in school. man gary paulsen wrote a great novel.. really captivated my interest despite the nonsense that grade school was. sparked my passion for reading.
This is one my favorite books. Brian is very likable and sympathetic. The way Paulsen describes how Brian’s mental and physical health are effected by this is very well written. The boy has been through so much crap at this point and he realizes he can survive or complain and whine about it and face death. I also liked how he uses stuff he learned from movies and school to survive. I recommend anyone into survival stories to read this book. RIP Gary Paulsen.
Thank you so much! My teacher told me and my classmates we had a test on chapter 4 and our teacher told us to go on her website to read chapter 4 but didn’t tell us how to get onto her website so I listened to this and I got an A + 😋
