The plastic bike helmet saved my life when I was 10. I was riding down a hill and my chain broke on a style of bike where you had to backpedal to apply breaks. I tried to ditch before I flew into an intersection. My leg got caught and I just ended up falling over and dragged by the momentum for 10 feet. The helmet dented and was warn away by the pavement. When examined by the ER doctor he said I would died without it. It also saved my face from road rash unlike my leg and shoulder which was very bad. The thickness of the helmet saved me.

Well, I would say that the outer shell staying fairly intact is actually not a bad thing. In the 80s they sold helmets with no shell and just foam, and the problem was that they usually split in half on the first impact, so if you for example first hit a car head first, and then the ground, you were unprotected when hitting the ground. The foam inside is what is supposed to take the impact, the shell is supposed to keep it together, provide resistance against sliding, and (though the regulations are pretty lax regarding bicycle helmets) protect against penetration from sharp objects. Now, testing a helmet by beating on it while standing on the ground with no head inside is by no means scientific of course and proves nothing.

Yeah the first time I wore a bike helmet I thought, “wait this thing is just styrofoam! What kind of protection is this?” But it’s because they’re designed to crumple and absorb the force of impact. That’s why they’re good protection. 👍🪖
@@MikeMuellnerMDSimilarly, cars are designed to crumple, for the same purpose as your described about bike helmets. (Except that cars aren't styrofoam, and you don't wear cars on your head.)
Always make sure your helmet has a MIPS rating.

Very different types of helmets, but you can usually expect that from these types of product demonstrations. My favorite is when they try to show how weak the competitor's wrench is, and you can blatantly see that the handle has a cut going half way through it.
There is a huge deference from a crash on a bike probably only going 15 MPH then a god dang hole tank of pro pain being smashed on the Helmet

In physics we learn about impulsive force and cars fromt and rear end is also designed the same way lile the helmet, to crumple easily so it has less force

If youre so worried about bicycle helmets just wear a Motorcycle full head helmet (as all MBikers should), it is the same principle, its gonna break but it will resist harder impacts without breaking your neck or spine, people do have accidents wearing these all the time and they survive, most of them without major head injuries.
Dont use painted pots as helmets. Not even medieval helmets were made to fall off vehicles at medium to high speed, let alone chinese crap.
My friend was riding his bike two days ago. He crashed and broke his leg. At the orthopedist's office yesterday (follow-up for my broken thumb), I saw him and his grandma. She saud that when they found his helmet, there was a huge hole in it. That helmet saved his life. He could've died without it. The thing is, he usually doesn't ride with a helmet on. God saved him too. Always wear your helmets, kids.

They literally do that, it has nothing to do with the helmets themselves, they just beat stuff and show you how "good" whatever theyre trying to sell is.
