Nicola, thank you for your video this morning. When I learned of Jean's passing, I immediately thought that your words would be comforting to hear in this time of sadness in the stitching community, and I'm glad you decided to share your thoughts and emotions. I did not have the opportunity to meet Jean except through her "Two Tarts and Their Starts" flosstube videos, but her love of stitching was obvious to all who knew her. My faith tells me she is no longer in pain, and she's happily stitching away without readers on 56 count linen that is lit by the celestial light where she now resides.
I know how hard it was for you to film this but I am so glad you did. Anyone who stitches any of the collaborations with designers who had those relationships with JEAN means that her memory lives on. I think we should all sit down and stitch a red sampler in her honor. I was a little surprised when someone online posted that they weren’t supposed to say anything about JEAN‘s death, which I thought was incredibly ridiculous. I never got to meet her, but I feel like I have known her for years after talking to her on the phone and through all of you who have posted the things that you remember about her. She was an incredible woman to move our craft forward, and everyone needs to talk about her. Thank you so much Nicola. sending love your way.
What a lovely tribute, Nicola. I never got to meet Jean, but just watching her on flosstube was like spending time with a dear friend. We are all so blessed by her passion for needlework and samplers. Her legacy will live on and bless all the stitchers still to come. God bless you and her family, and may His peace comfort you.
Oh Nicola, bless you, and thank-you for your touching and poignant video today. Your love for Jean and all she contributed to the stitching community is so evident in your video. I will begin stitching Jessie today, in honor and in remembrance of Jean, in her favorite palette. The Symposium was very special, I am so grateful to have attended, to have experienced the many excellent presentations, and brought home such lovely materials. My first visit to The Attic was in January of 2022, and my reproduction sampler journey began. Again in 2024 and this January. Each event better than the last. Thank-you for your participation and for your astonishing catalogue of samplers. My red box in en route...❣Peace and healing to you.
Bless Jean, her name will be remembered throughout time just as the names of the sampler stitchers she honored by sharing her passion of needlework across the world. I never met her in person but I have shed tears for her beautiful soul.
I never met Jean, but I know that her enthusiasm and encouraging nature have had an impact on me and my stitching in many ways. Your tribute and the others I have read and have seen and doubtless will see on other floss tubes will demonstrate this over and over because those who did meet her have known and shared that influence. Thanks, Nicola, for this video.
Thank you for coming on and doing the wonderful tribute to Jean, Nicola- your final collaboration is so beautiful, I can't wait to get mine and get started. She was one in a million and inspired so many of us on all levels of stitching, she will absolutely be missed. I too am so glad that she was able to go out on a high note with sampler symposium, you could see that it brought her so much joy, even when she struggled heath wise.
I’m thankful for my time at The Attic last month and Sampler Symposium. I brought my Jessie kit home with me and now my time there and this kit are so much more poignant now. I’m sad, as we all are. Thank you for your lovely words about Jean. She was a special person.
Thank you Nicola for taking the time and courage to make this video. Jean was special. Many of us have special memories of her. She is with God and she's teaching God how to stitch on 56 count.
Courageous but a wonderful tribute to an amazing Needleworker, Jean; she gave so much to us as you do too! Bless you both. So sad but the memories will help us go forth. One stitch at a time, one length of floss, and so on. Our hearts are heavy with love too.
Thank you for sharing such beautiful words about Jean, Nicola. Although I never met her in person I loved following “Two tarts and their starts” and learned so much from her. Many prayers for you and all who loved Jean. Keep shining bright Jean xx
I am so grateful I ordered a Jessie chellinor as a stitching memorial. I never got to meet Jean, but I felt like I knew her through flosstubes . Thank you Nicola for sharing your memories.
I live just a few miles from the Attic. I did not attend the symposium, but I did stop by the Attic on the Friday of the symposium because I wanted to see the two Jessies in person before you brought the models home. Just lovely. I thought that I preferred the subdued version, but when I saw the vibrant version in person, I changed my mind! I didn't know Jean personally, but I have seen her many times over the years when I would stop by the Attic. The last time I saw her there was probably in December when I purchased "Golded Sampler Fragment" by Hello from Liz Matthews. Perhaps I will stitch on that sampler in Jean's memory. My prayers go out to her family and friends. Thank you, Nicola.
My husband and I have a road trip planned for the end of February and the only thing I wanted was to stop at The Attic. I was hoping to meet the lovely women I see and admire here. I have Jessie on pre-order.
I never met Jean but I’ve heard so much about her sweet spirit since being in this community! She will be missed and I look forward to someday meeting her in our eternal home!
Thank you for the video today, and the tribute for your dear friend Jean! I know it was difficult. I was going to just do the bright version of Jessie, but now I would like to stitch both versions. Much love to you Nicola ❤️
Beautiful tribute to Jean. I know this was hard for you to film. 😢 the Attic is my LNS here in Arizona and Jean will truly be missed. She always was able to enable me on just about anything lol i have Jessie on order in the lighter version. 😊
Thank you for the tribute to Jean, understandably very difficult for you. Sending condolences to her family and all her staff. Thank you as well for what you and Jean have done for this community.
Thank you for the lovely tribute to Jean. She made a lasting impact on the needlework community. May God comfort you as you grieve the loss of a good friend.
Oh Nicola, we can all see how hard that was for you to make this video. But I think it’s a wonderful tribute to Jean. And how much more special does “Jessie” become now- I hope every time you look at her it fills your heart with all the happiness and love that your friendship and work with Jean gave you. Big hugs and lots of love xx
Such beautiful words and wonderful tribute to Jean. Thank you for sharing your love and respect for Jean and I appreciate all she has done for the cross stitch community. ❤️
Your friendship with Jean was beautiful to watch over the years. I cried right along with you. It’s a huge loss for our community but what the legacy she leaves is awe inspiring.
I am so glad that I was able to visit with Jean at the Sampler Symposium . She was a wonderful caring person. She will be dearly missed. Thank you for the tribute to Jean Lea, it must be very difficult for you❤
Nicola, I can't imagine how difficult doing this video must have been for you today, but I thank you for sharing with us your thoughts about Jean. To say she will be missed is a huge understatement. So many of us do have stories about her which I believe are blessings for us. Once again thank you.
My condolences on the loss of your friend! My heart goes out to her family and friends. She was such an amazing lady who from all the tributes left the world better than she found it. This video is a lovely tribute to Jean Lea!
In your life you like to meet few people for me it was Jean and to visit the Attic .So sad to hear about Jean .May she rest in peace .Pray for her family and friends.
Thank you for doing the video today. It was a lovely tribute to Jean. The Jessie sampler is a fitting tribute to both of you, and your love for samplers and this community. My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your friend. Take care, Arleen
Thank you for doing the video today Nicola, - I know it must be incredibly hard, your tribute to Jean was very beautiful, and I am so very sorry indeed for the loss of your dear friend. She was truly a remarkable shining light. xx
Thank you for recording this difficult video. I have been heartbroken since I heard about Jean’s passing. I never met her but felt I knew her through her videos and so many people sharing about her after a trip to The Attic. She was a special lady. I will have to try to stitch on 56 count this year in her honor. Take care.
So very sorry for your pain at the loss of Jean. This may be too soon, but you and other designers she was close to could collaborate on a tribute sampler for all to remember Jean. I know from her video about Ellen Chester’s piece that her favorite stitch was Rice stitch. We’ve all heard her favorite color was red and of course her favorite count was 56. I stitched a 1/1 on 56 count pendant for her as she hadn’t stitched one for herself. I think her passing deserves a personalized sampler commemorating her life and love the tiny stitches ❤
Bless you Nicola...never met Jean but feel I knew through you tube videos...My Jessie was ordered awhile ago and is now on it's way... God Bkess Jean and you. Both of you are so amazing and I'm thankful that I was able to follow her and you....I'm a Micigander! (I do see Vickie every Oct. In Spring Green , WI) Keeping DEAR Jean in my prayers. HUGS to you. I hoping to meet you some day...take care❤
I am sending my deepest condolences to you in the loss of your dear friend and collaborator, Jean. The mutual respect you both had for each other and your beloved needlework is always present in your videos. It is very sad to loose a luminary of an artform, but is vitally important for other creators step into the gap that Jean has left and carry-forward her deep love for those who stitch.
So sorry you lost a lovely brilliant friend, I so wanted to meet her but my grandmother will enjoy her now and stitch away with Ms Jean. My heart breaks for all who had the pleasure of knowing her God bless you Nicola
Can only imagine how Jean’s passing has touched you - thank you for your collaborations with Jean! I look forward to stitching Jessie in Jean’s honor. Will Susannah de Carl be available in 12 month’s time to those that could not attend Sampler Symposium? Would love to stitch her too in memory of Jean. Blessings and hugs to you❤️
Im very sorry for the los of Jean. Im.sure she is in heaven stitching with los of soles.. and what a great way to honour her to stitch the patterns you worked with her . As soon as your video started i knew something has happened because of your face . Remember hood times you spent with her and cry ..it wii help you. Hugs 🎉
I just wanted you to know that I got my red box today, Saturday instead of next Monday. I usually wait to open it while I watch your revealing video but thinking of Jean, I may open it this afternoon. I am really sad for Jean’s passing and will keep her in my thoughts while I work in the samplers and who knows, I may start my first project in 56 ct
I'm so very sad for all who knew and loved Jean. I think she would want you to continue "forward" to keep her legacy going. I had planned to call the Attic to order Jesse and her silks, but I'm unsure when the appropriate time is now. Should I wait a few weeks out of respect? Just pondering and dont want to do anything unsensitive to the Ladies of the Attic. Your thoughts? Thanks Nicola!

The industry has lost a great woman. May she rest in peace.
A wonderful tribute.
It's such a pity that only those who can buy the booklet can hear the story of Jessie's sampler. I'm sure Jean would love ALL of us to hear it.😢
Yesterday was not the day for me but I will share Jessie’s story in another video.
