If more overlord is what you are after, you could always react to the Overlord shorts: Pure Pure Pleiades episodes and movies. There is also the English translation of the Overlord Drama CDs, which can be found on TH-cam. Drama CDs are essentially anime episodes that have no animation, just voices and audio. The Drama CDs usually roughly indicate when they occur in the timeline of events through context.
Ains sees death as a mercy so the fact that he chose a time freeze spell and used an instant death spell to kill him shows how much respect he has for Gazef. Quick and painless without even the slightest suffering.
@@FieryMeltmantruely gave gazef the greatest honor in that fight by using one of his highest skill requirement attacks (treating him as an equal in that fight as opposed to toying with clementine).
@@cerberushydra2378 Clementine got the roleplay treatment, and he didn't even use any effort or magic on her, simply hugging her to death insulting and painfully While gazef got hype from ainz, accepting his duel and using chromomancy as well instant death magic which requires a high level to even use
Actually, Ainz as Momon has been using a lip bug to alter his voice in his Momon persona since the start, it's only partially alluded to in the first episode of season 4, but it is explained more in the LN.
That’s wrong. In the light novel on volume 6 when Evileye wanted to introduce Momon to Gazef, Ainz decided to do some other stuff because he was worried Gazef would recognize his voice.
As I see it, the thing about Gazef there isn't really about pride: it's mainly two factors: 1) Duty - he is in debt with his king, and will not turn his back against him no matter what, even if that "honor" results in their collective doom; 2) Ainz - Gazef wanted the others to see what kind of person Ainz was (his powers, personality, and thoughts), so that they can see him objectively and interact with him in an appropriate way rather than just act based on their impressions (living-hater undead, enemy king, evil incarnate, and such). Or to put it simply, show that Ainz can be a reasonable and honorable person if you show him due respect. Unfortunately, they didn't pay much attention to anything other than his powers, which... they didn't see much in the fight at all? So, yeah, Gazef kind of died for nothing there because they totally misunderstood his intentions. All the point of his duel was to show them that they SHOULDN'T make an enemy of Ainz. Also: 25:20 you got them inverted: Momon is Pandora's Actor there. It's all part of the plan.
It's worth noting here that Ains showed Gazef an immense amount of respect. He warned him he would die if they fought, accepted the duel and made sure to follow all of it's rules, offered to ressurrect Gazef, honored his wishes by making sure he could not be ressurrected, went all out rather than holding back, left the body intact and unharmed, treated the body carefully even after he was dead, pulled his army back afterwards. F in the chat for Gazef, the man was a gigachad.
I can totally see that being the case. Especially with regard to Ainz himself and Gazef having an intention that the others might have failed to realize.
It's pretty much just Mumen Rider vs Deep Sea King. When faced with an overwhelming malicious force, Gazeff still decided to fight, knowing full well that he cannot win. In this way, Ainz never got what he wants (recruiting Gazeff), so Gazeff's resolve still paid off.
the reason ains wants the sword is cos it has the skill to cut ANYTHING which means it might be possible for this sword to cut a world item which can only be destroyed by another world item which would make that sword immensely valuable to ains
The funny thing about the rock throw is that had this happened to any noble of the kingdom the boy and his mother would have died or worse and most would have just accepted that in that world.
time magic is like the most popular kind of magic for pvp stuff in yggdrasil when was a game. at a certain level its normal for most player to incorporate some amount of time magic stuff, be it active uses or counter messures. the spell ainz uses freezes time for everyone without counter measure and the caster, while time is frozen no offensive moves can be performed - there is ofcs a few exceptions, like delay magic. delay magic works in that way that once cast it activates after a certain amount of time passed e.g. say after 5 sec - if timestop works for 10 sec, if the caster cast it at the perfect time once timestop ends it will instantly trigger and hit the enemy without chance of evasion. if cast wrongly e.g. to early it wont trigger; if too late, might miss. is supposed to be a highskill gamer move feet ainz performs there and he is supposed to have been in like the upper 5% bracket of players who could reliable perform it accurately.
The OVERLORD movie is coming out in theatres outside Japan around this Christmas, and then it will be online most likely around February 2025. The movie takes place chronologically between episode 7 and 8 of season 4. There are already 2 trailers for it that I hope you check out when you finish the show! By the way about your comment on the books, there are currently 16, the anime has only done 12 so far. The anime cuts out almost 40% of the content and rushes the story which really isn't good, but it is what it is, at least we got 4 seasons and future stuff. if you want to read them, just make sure to not read past volume 11 until you watch the movie, because that would be future anime content!
If I remember correctly, please correct me if wrong, it goes kinda like this: Season 1 - Novel 1~3 Season 2 - Novel 4~6 Season 3 - Novel 7~9 Season 4 - Novel 10, 11, 14 Movie (to be released) - Novel 12 and 13
It's crazy that he still can't figure it out. This was the easiest because Albedo would not act all lovey towards Pandoras Actor even if he was impersonating Ainz
The biggest clue's are that Momon (Pandora's Actor) movements are very showy, while when Ainz is disguised he usually moves very calmly. Also his voice just has a lot more flair here.
According to the author of Overlord there are six reasons why Gazef requested the duel: 1. To show Ainz's power for future fights. 2. Killing Ainz would mean the end of the war and as king he would normally be surrounded by bodyguards so he would never have a better opportunity to fight him now that he was alone. 3. Gazef, being the symbol of the commoners at court, his betrayal would undermine the rest of the commoners due to the hatred of the nobles (the commoners would lose social mobility). 4. Without Gazef, his troop of warriors, the commoners that he had trained so hard would be used, paying for Gazef's betrayal due to their close relationship, even being used against their king and losing the kingdom to some elite soldiers. 5. When King Ramposa and Barbro returned to the capital, the nobles who had lost family members would turn their hatred towards the king. If someone as important to the king as Gazef died, he hoped that part of their hatred would be reduced. 6. Because Ainz saved Gazef and a village in the past, Gazef still thought of Ainz as a good person whom he respected so he couldn't make a false oath of loyalty to him. These were Gazef's thoughts and if there is something misspelled I apologize because this has been written with Google Translate.
By the way, those who had the resources to leave E-Rantel left, of course no one who could would stay in a nation governed by a being that is supposed to hate life.
The one playing hero was Pandora's Actor; the one chilling in the carriage was the real Ainz. That's why Albedo said, "Hearign that from you doesn't make me (sad?)" That's also why she blushed at the real Ainz.
In the fight between Gazaf and Ainz, Ainz treated Gazaf as if he were a player, casting Time Stop, because that's what he would have done in a PVP duel in Yggdrasil. He'd earlier cast a spell that required a long casting time to determine if there was a player among the Kingdom's forces, but finding none he used a Cash Store item to reduce the casting time. It's actually Pandoras Actor playing Momon, and Albedo was about to say that she doesn't like Pandoras Actor. Ainz doesn't speak because people might recognize that he and "Momon" have the same voice.
07:53: "Why the guy nod?" Pretty sure Gazef doesn't get the gaming reference, but he understands that Ainz acknowledges this as a duel between equals. Not equals in strength, obviously, but equal in free will and determination. This is in contrast to season 1 which ended with the episode "Player vs NPC", because Shalltear was not a normal being but originally a programmed character. An NPC that he knew inside and out. And worse of all, an NPC whose free will - however much she normally possesses - was stolen by a world item.
There are multiple reasons why Gazef did not become a subordinate of Ainz. 1: The first reason was what Climb mentioned. 2: The second reason was what Gazef himself said to Ainz about his sword being in reach of the enemy commander. 3: The third reason was should he come under Ainz (as a symbol of commoners) after being highly evaluated by the King, it may potentially lead to commoners being judged to turn traitor as well, resulting in the loss of social mobility of commoners. 4: The fourth reason is in the case of his subordinates, they would certainly be used for as tools for something (for what kind of purpose they would be used is unclear to Gazef), but it can be thought it would be their connection will be concerning enough to cause a huge loss for the Kingdom. 5: The fifth reason is that when the King and First Prince return back safely (Gazef does not know that the prince is dead at this point), because nobles who lost a relative will have their antagonism rise. If someone useful to the King like himself dies, Gazef hopes that a small quantity of the hatred will be softened. 6: The sixth reason is that the person called Ainz (even though Gazef saw such a cruel deed) still saved Carne Village, so he thought Ainz to be a man of character and not cold-blooded to those he does not view as enemies since he saved his life, so Gazef did not want to feign an oath of allegiance, because he held respect for that part of Ainz. Also, when Ainz says "PvP", Gazef probably heard a term that he is more familiar with due to Auto-Translation shenanigans.
Oh, ok. #3 and #5 put it into a bit of context for me. I still think he should've allowed himself to be resurrected though. Choosing to die was one thing, taking the decision to let him come back or not out of the kings hands was a bit far though. He was a force for good and letting himself get taken out like that just lets the not-so-good forces run wild.
Spoilers!! I don't think there is an auto-translation in that way. I think there is so much as Ainz and the npcs didn't need to learn a new language, but words from our world don't get translated. For example the Slane theocracy and PDL use game terms like (as translated in the light novel) "puhlayer" and "enpishi" for player and npc. They hear the words we have. They don't get translated. If they did they'd never say those words
@@kiki-ll4uk I think they don't get translated because the New Worlders can't conceptualize things like "Player" "NPC", because those things don't exist in their world. Also, i re read the volume of the LN to be sure, and i don't think Ainz actually said "PVP". He said something akin to "duel", but i could be wrong. I can't read japanese so i can't read the raws, nor do i have them.
@@bemusedbandersnatch2069 gazef belief was for only 1 life, and he didn't want too cheapen his life thinking he could just get rez. even if Ainz didn't prevent low tier resurrection gazef still wouldn't come back because he doesn't wish too come back too lfie
04:40 "I say pride is the downfall of men." In many settings... including real life... pride can be very self-destructive. But I see it more like a drug. In the right amounts, it can act as medicine. It translates into self-confidence, persistance, honor... moving forward in the face of adversity. In excess, it becomes poison. It translates into overconfidence, stubbornness, arrogance... not backing off in the face of repeated failure.
This feeling of wanting more is exactly what an anime should give you. I myself only ever had three anime, which gave me this feeling, thus i read their light novels. Reading them after ist strangely satisfying. Any show that can make you feel this certain emotion is thus deserving of praise.
If i'm not mistaken, in the base model of Ainz the Red Orb he has on his belly/chest area is a World Item, and when it is missing it means that is actually Pandora's Actor taking Ainz's form, in the E-Rantel exchange here Ainz has the Red Orb, so Momon is actually Pandora's Actor, you can see it from the way Albedo talks "Although hearing it from you..." after he says she would never marry.
16:20 So Ramposa (the King) actually did try to have Gazef resurrected by Lakyus, the blonde with the cursed sword from Blue Rose. Her spells weren't strong enough (as Ainz had told Climb and Brain), so Gazef remained dead while Ramposa mourned his friend.
the momon play was increadibly smart. They not only gave people hope having momon as a guardian, but also having him there stops them from dispairing too much and starting revolts while they start making moves and getting more people alined with them. That also means that if momon doesnt attack ains it means that what ains is doing isnt that bad so he cant be such a monster. Momon is the carrot and albedo is the stick
Gazef: "witness my final battle" "there is no need to lay your hands on those two" its not a pride thing. he is doing his job as the head warrior. He thinks he can maybe help the show them a weakness in ainz that they could maybe exploit in the future, also he wants to serve was a warning to the rest of the Kingdom - if he cant defeat them - no one else there could. him asking if the two could serve as referees for the fight would also make sure that the two wouldnt be harmed afterward, cuz they need to deliver the results back home. Gazef doesnt like magic, doesnt like resurrection - "a human has only one life", so even if Ainz didnt used true death, and they tried to revive him afterwards later, he would refuse the revival as a dead and wouldnt come back - cuz thats a thing, the dead can actually refuse the revival. several hundredths or thousands or so fo the empires army got trampled to death when they fled from the baby goat when it approached em to collect ainz.
Exactly. Overlord's magic system is based on D&D's. And likewise in D&D, (almost) all ressurection spells requires the dead person to be willing to be ressurected. (The exception being revivify which has to be used within 1 minute of the person being dead, before their soul leaves.) After the soul has left the body, the soul has to be willing to come back to the world of the living.
But he was the one who came up with the idea of using moman to pacify erantel so he wouldn't have to kill a bunch of people his first day on the job as ruler. He definitely has his moments.
The thing about the sword is not like it's super powerful and it kills Ainz, is just that it CAN damage Ainz and therefore it CAN kill Ainz. Not like having the sword you somehow make so you can win against Ainz by that alone, but it does mean you can damage him and eventually possibly kill him if you can last long enough on a battle.
All it means is that the blade is strong enough to go beyond the physical damage nullification, but it says nothing about how many hits you would need to actually deplete his HP or even overcome any sort of passive regeneration.
Yeah I feel like this is a callback from Season 1 at the very beginning. When someone shot a rock at Ainz and Albedo blocked it and said that the bare minimum to attack Ainz should be that he can be hurt. Which I guess is why Ainz said ""With this, we can fulfill the very basic requirements of a duel."
about the ressurection thingy, is a 9th tier spell that negates all low level resurrection spells. The lowest resurrection spell is a 5th tier spell and most people regard anything above sixth tier to be myth or divine (my personal guess is that True Death negates 5th and 6th tier, maybe 7th tier as well, but that is debatable). The Massacre at Katze plains, as this "battle" is later called, cost life of over 170,000 Re-Estize soldiers (commoners and nobles alike) and left many traumatized (obviously). The "fight" between Albedo and Pandora's Actor was all a charade. The boy who threw the stone was actually manipulated by Demiurge. Following that, they pinned the blame on the Slane Theocracy so it wouldn't get any ground in the city and effectively gathered the citizens under Momon.
11:01 "Doesn't the bell do something?" He has multiple bells. I don't remember the effect of each, but one has already been shown to disarm traps. Nothing that will impact the duel anyway.
@@JeromeBellon I’m ashamed I didn’t use it myself 🤣. When climb walked into the room he rang one bell that showed the door on the floor, a bell cancelled the crossbow he may have used the last bell to unlock the floor door (that’s the one I can’t remember correctly…).
The movie that is not out yet covers light novels 12 and 13 that are a complete story arc, season 4 covers light novels 10 11 and 14. The reason gazef duels ainz is that if he changes sides then the king would be very harshly criticized by the nobles and gazef also wanted to know the true heights of power, you could call the latter reason the pride of the strong. The reason ainz uses the term PVP is that he is showing respect to gazef by treating him as an equal, it is the same reason he used the OP combo of time stop and true death because that is what he would have done if he was facing a player who did not have time stop countermeasures. This is very common misunderstanding that almost every reactor comes to the sword CAN technically kill ainz if ainz just stood there and let gazef hit him with the sword for hours or days, what ainz means by the sword can harm him is that the sword allows someone to bypass the immunity that Ainz has to attacks by creatures lower than level 60. I'll explain the origin of the sword after season 4 because I'm not sure if it's a spoiler or not since it's never addressed in the anime. It was Pandora's actor acting as momon you can tell because of how 'excited' albedo got when ainz touched her shoulder.
The one acting as Momon was Pandora's actor, you can tell cause his movements were overly dramatic and because Albedo got all excited once Ains touched her shoulder. The reason Ains did not speak out was to avoid people noticing his voice and Momon is the same. The idea is that the people will turn to Momon and he can work as a spy if people try to rebel against Ains, similar to the rol Crush (the albino lizard), is playing with the lizardmen tribe.
It's always fun rewatching Overlord because what really struck me this time was how different the assemblage of the Nazerick floor guardians was from the usual. In Nazerick it's grand but shadowy and kind of gloomy. In Erantel, they are very much in the bright light of the sun. Symbolism!
14:30 Basically, you're describing Chekov's gun. A common writing trope, and a very useful one. It basically is a very common way to establish "setup and payoff".
I agree with what you said about overlord having so many characters and the fact that they all written really well, you end them liking them all both main and side and the interactions between them that its never enough
Especially for what happens in season 4. You HAVE TO read the light novels too. It's just amazing. For me it was the only anime that pushed me to read all the light novels AND the special separate volume which has ainz "alone" in this world hundreds of years befofe.
Gazef's fight against Ainz showed how much Ainz liked him. Because, if in Nazarick "death is mercy", Ainz made a point of stopping time so that the man he respected would have a quick death, definitely the highest level of mercy offered by Ainz.
Wonder makes the best part of a show, eg “I wonder what that character is up to?” It allows your imagination to come up with fantastical scenarios. A slightly vague ending is the best for this
as a small small side note detail. in season 1, when ainz and narbarel killed clementine and the necromancer, they had to hand over their bodies to the authorities as proof, there was background talk in the LN between climb and the others, iirc, where they were basically informed that at some point the bodies of both disappeared and were never found again. there is a legit chance that clementine was resurrected at some point. in that regard they made a mini anime about clementine in that matter, is like a mini non canon (?) side story about after her waking up again. in that regard there is an castlevania-like overlord game, where you play as clementine. just 2 fun tiddybiddies. :D
@@-Apoptos- yap that one. adventuerer guild master, mage guildmaster and e-rantel major. is a shame that he is cut out of the anime, he seem like a rly interesting side chara. but yah point remains, the two got probably taken by the death cult of the necromancer, and they could be alive.
Great reaction! You should definitely read the books because they bring A LOT more information about everything. You get to read about what Ainz's world was like (our earth in the future), Yggdrasil and what the game was like and what players did, then a lot about Nazarick and the Supreme Beings, their personalities, how they raided the original Nazarick dungeon and etc, and also you get more about the New World in depth. There is so much more. There is also a whole book about Ainz in an alternate timeline where he stepped out of Nazarick when the game was about to shut down and was thus transported to the New World alone several hundreds of years prior to the current events.
Also Pandora's Actor tends to be more "flamboyant" when he is acting as someone. He also insults Albedo as the two of them are somewhat competitive with each other.
When Ainz said "that weapon can kill me", he really meant it in the sense that a 3 year old could kill you with a butter knife if they were persistent enough and you didn't lift a finger to stop them. The sword is able to bypass Ainz's passive low level damage nullification and chip away at his HP, that's about it. A powerful enough warrior could probably kill Ainz with that sword normally, just like there are people who could kill you with a butter knife.
24:00 is funny because Pandoras Actor is basically telling her she'll never marry his dad. As other pointed out in this exhange Momon was Pandora's Actor. An easy way to tell is he cant replicate the glowing red orb Ainz has inside him because its a world item. He also overracts so you can tell by the personality.
31:30 The light novels are so good. Easily my favorites that I've read, you learn so much about the world and characters uou otherwise wouldn't. Kugane Maruyama's writing style is awesome! There's so much detail with everything, and So Bin's illustrations are the cherry on top. 10/10 high recommend.
in the english dub after Momons "noone will marry you" towards Albedo she responded with "even though this is a farce thats a low blow" which I think is so much funnier xD
lol I love the interaction between Albedo and "Momon". 23:46 Momon was actually Pandora's Actor. "No one will marry a woman like you." Brutal and hilarious when this is being said by the "son" of the man Albedo loves. XD Even Albedo briefly lost focus after hearing that bit of improv from PA with "Hearing that from you doesn't make me..." Ainz is actually Ainz inside the cart. Albedo would NEVER show such a happy smile/blush if Pandora's Actor playing Ainz had touched her shoulder.
Here's to another great season's ending! Great reaction once again and I really like seeing your mind working to understand as much as possible and make connections everywhere in this series! 1- I'm glad you still like Ainz in that scene. Yeah, he is disapointed. He wanted Gazef to join him, but was rejected. That is disapointing. But still, he still respect him a whole lot, way more than he let it show. 2- It isn't pride that pushed Gazef to request a duel, it is both respect and curiosity, also hope. Respect because he look up to Ainz for saving the Carne villagers. Curiosity because he want to know how far he got with the sword, even though he know fully well he will die and have no chance to win. Hope, because if he give Ainz enough amusement, he might save his king, someone who he is indebted to and he look up to as much as he look up to Ainz, even more, and his friends right next to him. So no, it wasn't pride. Honor, sure, but that's different. He play it as pride, but it is far more than that. 3- What Ainz meant by that sword could kill him is pretty simple really. The sword is strong enough to pass his passive weak weapons imunity. The weapon can damage him. If I remember correctly, it also reduce passive regeneration, so he could take more damage than hecould regenerate. It really isn't anything more complicated that that. Of course, the sword got other powers, but they aren't what could kill him. 4- Fun fact, that duel was actually way more intense than you think. It wasn't as easy as what it seems in the anime. Oh, don't get me wrong, it basicly happened exactly the same in the light novel, but with more details of how cracked Ainz actualy is. I will try to better explain it, but being ESL, I might struggle a little so please bear with me. The first spell Ainz used was used to stop time for a set amount of time. If I remember correctly, it was 10 seconds, maybe 15. During that time, magic was nullified from every source, even himself. The way to bypass that was to use a delayed spell that would end after the suration of the first spell. That's easy enough to do, but in Yggdrasil, just doing that would have given a chance to the opponent to flee the spell range, counter it or nullify it, so what player usualy did was use a timer to make sure the second spell would go of at the exact time the first one ended. What Ainz did is just cracked, he calculated mentaly when to use the delayed spell so it would go off as soon as his first spell ended. That's like less than 1/100th of a second window he hit. That's impressive by itself. But not only that, he also chose the best spell for the best result during that time. True Death is a, if I remember correctly, 6th tier spell that kill anyone it affect if they do not resist it and makes it impossible to bring them back to life without a very high tier resurection spell. Gazef didn't want to be brought back to life, so he chose that spell to grant him his wish. He chose that spell out of respect for his opponent. That's already an heavy scene when you can't understand that, but with that information, it's even heavyer. Such a great scene. Also, him proposing to remove the curse was kind of a test for the others. If they accepted, he would have done it, but he would have kept in mind they disrespected Gazef's last wish and he wouldn't have liked that at all. 5- Don't worry, you'll get more Albedo in season 4. She is one of the main protagonist of that season, so we see her more often. Of course, I won't spoil what will happens, but I said just enough to wet your appetite. 6- Using Momom like that is actualy genius. The people of this city look at him like a hero because, let's be real, after the undead legion in the first season, he was an actual hero. They trust him to protect them. Ainz worked really hard to earn their trust after all. So, by using him as a "watch dog" he made sure the people would feel safer and would give him a chance to govern the city fairly. If he didn't, Momon, who is one of the strongest adventurer of the country if not the strongest, will fight for them. Also, the fact he refused to fight at that moment because it would havemeant mane cassualties made people look up even more to him, so they feel kind of safeish even with that many undead in the city. The reason you can't see it is because you know the characters behind the scene, you aren't part of the terorised citizens, for them Momon is their only hope to survive. 7-The reason there wasn't an after credit scene is mainly because they weren't sure if there would be a 4th season. When they started, they wanted to make only 1 season. They were so surprised by the popularity of the show, they green lit the season 2 and 3, but the 4th one wasn't sure to happen. After all, the first season's popularity might have been simple luck and it could drop during those seasons, but no, it's popularity increased instead, so season 4 it is! And to answer your question, I'm not sure which is my favorite season. I think the 4th one, but the third one is about as interesting for me.
2 questions. 1) Climb + Brain listened the info Ainz told Gazzef about the sword? 2) if climb idea of knowing the power of ainz and trying to get a counter, who will help that kingdom because the Emperor gilgagesh shoul be or have the most powerfull magicians + fighters
It should be noted that time-stop magic in Yggdrasil isn't commonly used in PvP, because while it does stop time for everyone around you who doesn't have some sort of counter-measure to it (it actually slows their movements so much that effectively time stops for them rather than actually stopping it), since it's still running at normal speed for you, your spells still fire off with the normal timing, and any spell that hits someone under the effect of Time Stop doesn't affect them at all. The only people who use Time Stop for PvP are those who have mastered the ability and perfected the timing through laborious practice to cast spells that fire the instant Time Stop wears off through the use of Delay Magic. Like Ains. That's why he used Delay Magic, True Death. If he'd just cast True Death, Stronoff wouldn't have been affected at all. He delayed the spell's activation until the instant Time Stop dropped, so in Brain and Climb's eyes Ains killed him without even casting a spell.
GG man, now you have just one more season. I wanna read the books too. Nazarick gang outplayed the Kingdom with Momon. Poor Gazef, it might help Brain in the future.
The sword is interesting because it has the ability to cut anything thus bypassing Ainz immunity to slash damage and his overall immunity to attacks up to a certain point. None of them can do anything about it because he's a level 100 player and the only things out there strong enough to hurt him are probably other level 100s world items and strong wild magic. Facing a level 100 at their levels is impossible unless you have a world item as they are known to toss the rules on their heads.
5:55 - In that case with Gazef it's not pride, but honor, honor to his king, and citizen of the Kingdom. Remember, in the first episodes of S1, he was ready to sacrifice himself to save villagers and his army. 30:56 - Same for me. After watching the Overlord, I wanted to read the original LN and read all 14 volumes (at the time) 2 times, and I don't regret a single second I've spent on it. It tells you much more that anime gives us - Some scenes were changes in the anime, but in the light novel they are not only different, but also explained why it is the way it is, not mentioning all the thoughts of Momonga.
I'll give you the ultimate visual aid for identifying Pandora's Actor vs Ainz. The red sphere inside of Ainz is a world item that he basically never takes off. If you see him with the Red Sphere its 100% Ainz every time. If he doesn't have the red sphere its almost always Pandora's actor. Also Pandora's Actor tends to be a bit more over the top than Ainz in conversations. His dramatic flair.
"people are telling me season 4 is messed up, but already this was messed up, surely it cannot be that bad"-> he still didn't learned... You have a loooong way to go.
when ainz said the sword can kill him means it's just a sword capable of damaging him... so for someone max level with who knows how huge his hp pool is, it'll still need like countless slash to even lower ainz hp let alone kill him
What's Ainz means is that sword has a magic effect that can destroy the passive of Ainz then making affective damage to him but the problem is how many times of attack need to do in order to make Ainz HP to 0 lol
One thing not mentioned in the anime is part of the reason Gazef rejects being resurrected is that the kingdom drafted a large portion of its army from its peasants so there actually were not a lot of trained knights in the war just normal people that were given a weapon and told what to do. So because a lot of those people died if to the grieving families it seemed like the king had not lost anything in the war it would make the population resentful and likely to revolt.
I think the reason everything is Albedo light is because Albedo was a new addition for the LNs. Overlord started as a webnovel, then got picked up for a Light Novel adaptation. The author didn't want people paying for a story that he used to give away for free, so changed some things to surprise the old readers. Some things that have changed were the addition of Albedo, and that party of adventurers that accompanied Momon to Carne village that first adventure survived. Also, the audiobook format for the English LN is read by the VA who plays Ains in the anime.
24:12 "Hearing that from you doesn't make me... I don't understand." First, Ainz in the cart has red eyes. So guess who's in the armor doing all the posturing. Second, Albedo is basically being told that she has no charm, which is supposed to be insulting. Third, she doesn't care about the insult - not too much anyway, but she still winces - because she only cares about the opinion of someone else.
14:59 Climb will know true bliss in a no so distant future, I would predict. 30:36 One thing you need to know is that the movie that comes out later this year covers an ark that occurs between episodes 7 and 8 of Season 4. I don't know if you would like to wait until after the movie to watch episode 8 and onwards.
I know this is redundant but the best way to explain “momon the adventurer’s” role is he will now become the “leash” that will keep the people in e-rantel in obedience; as he is the crystallization of “humanity and justice” that will “protect” them from their new inhuman rulers.
the whole city scene was to get the people to trust momon to keep ties reluctantly with the sorcerer king to make sure he doesnt hurt the people or make unjust laws, and also the people want to rise up they know they have to recruit momon to take on the sorcerer king, so pandoras actor will hear of any upstart revolutions in the city and report them to ainz... they also wanted to show that ainz is not an unjust ruler by coming to stop albedo during the showdown, like hey we dont have to go that harsh here, lets all be friends and you momon the people trust you so you will be like the town sherrif... deliver proper punishment to those who deserve it under "human law" if they act up.... he essesntially made momon the police force and the the 1 the people can trust to stand up to any unjust demands in the city from the new ruler..... ainz made momon to find out about the world around them and see if there was strong people but all the guardians think he did all that to raise momons rep just for this exact scenerio to be a voice of the people and call him brilliant for thinking that far ahead.... (demierge mentions it at the dwarven kingdom and in the meeting in reisties when he found the artifact as yaldebaoth) when he says he sees 10,000 steps ahead and demiurge is like that means everything with momon takes on so much deeper meaning now...
When the Emperor(blondie) sit in his couch and begin to laugh.... is because he is remebering a few days ago when he was asking himself "Why Ainz did not ask for submission during our meeting?".... The answer The Emperor realize in that moment was...."I don´t need submision from ants!"
0:25 Movie comes out "At Fall" no known date nor what platforms will show it beyond theaters. 07:23 it only gets better from this point on ! :) 14:02 In the LN out of respect for Gazeff, he pulls out his goat army back (but still threaten to flatten the kingdom if they don't hand over E-Rantel) instead of finishing his rampage. 15:43 the minor damage to the army was due to them rapidly running for their life trampling one another, even though non of them were at actual risk lol. 16:20 As Ainz explained, they literally cannot resurrect from the Insta-death curse he put on. Although to some degree they also probably wanna accept Gazeffs wish to not be resurrected. 27:10 Surprisingly simple, Ainz is a monster no human can trust, Momon is a Hero everyone trusts, 1+1 = no antagonism from citizens (or moreso less). They can't trust Ainz being a good ruler to them but they can trust Momon saving them and killing "Ainz" off if he IS unjust. 31:21 I'd suggest getting the first 2 books, seeing how fast you consume them and decide then how hardcore you wanna go. I did the mistake of getting all 16 and now I just HAVE TO finish them asap haha I feel like after you finish watching Season 4, you gotta watch the entire series again, at least from season 2, the show throws you alot of hints for the end of season 4 that you either understand or otherwise will never expect.
"it just feels like i havent seen this character enough" my guy, thats literally because we havent actually seen them enough because overlord develops the side characters more than their main characters
There is too much riding behind this fight... not just honor... The longer Gazzef takes to take action as the "unstopabble fighting machine" people in his country think he is... the longer they will keep fighting and dying in a loosing battle... if he backs down the people of the country will discard him as a coward instead of thinking... damn his opponent must have been insurmountable... The only real option considering he cares more about the people than his own life is to use himself as an example to show everytone how far above them Ainz really is... and if he does so in a duel he can MAYBE save so so many lives... including the king's... He does believe Ainz is magnanimous enough to consider leaving the soldiers and the country alive AFTER they have ACTUALLY given up due to them SEEING what Ainz can do to their Hero... Otherwise the slaughter will come after all of them...
Welcome to the finish line, Luke. 1 more season and that "I WANT MORE" you said will slowly start to consume you. I swear season 5 is at the very top of my waitlist even tho it is not even announced yet.
If you want to see a little more of side characters like the Nazarick combat maids watch the Ple Ple Pleiades spin-off comedy shorts, no death just silly fun. Each episode is around 2~3 min so you can watch a whole season in one video. There's also a special episode where they do a crossover with The Eminence in Shadow.
Something in back of Ainz in the last scene looks like Armageddon Evil. But i don't know it's maybe also can be world class item because there's a world class item in the throne room of Nazarick shape as a chair where Ainz always sit on. And there's also Ginnungagap that can also shape in different form maybe the chair can shape differently idk. 🤔🤔
The word you're looking for is reluctant. He was reluctant to kill Gazef. He really does like the guy and hoped to avoid it. "Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source."- Uncle Iroh
I have a feeling that if Gazef had accepted Ainz's offer Gazef would have been the "defender" against the "injustice" of the Sorcerer King in E-Rantel.
The reason why we don't get almost any Albedo is because she was not an actual character in the Original Web Novel... When it was published formally as a Light Novel instead of a noob job (webnovel) the editors recommended the inclusion of a Waifu basically to be By Ainz's side and have her mediate interactions both for the inworld characters and to give us exposition... so they added her on the side in many scenes... but at the same time she doesn't do much since that would change how a lot of scenes would develop and taking care of fixing inconsistencies would take work... so instead they kept her as a decoration most of the time... she repeated Ainz's orders and had playful banters with shaltear... But that is probably only until the story catches up to the point were the Web novel was at when the Light novel started publication and her character was created... from that point onward since the story is new it can include her...
Not just her, like half the NPCs in Nazarick aren't in the Web Novel, and some like Cocoytus have different creators. Hamsuke & Nfirea Bareare (there's a female that occupies his role; there's also no connection between the Baeare family and Enri) also don't exist. Several events happen out of order, Ainz never encountered the Sunlight Scripture in Carne Village, heck, Clementine wasn't even involved in the graveyard incident. Mare is one of the NPCs who doesn't exist, so Fluder himself was with Ainz at the Massacre instead. Also, Momon of Darkness was a solo act (mostly played by Nabrel Gamma) and was publicly known as Ainz's protégé/student. Heck Gazef even survives these events in the Web Novel. The differences from volume one are like Dominos that make so many subtle changes, that by the time we get to the Massacre, I'd say only about 60~ish percent are the same. After the Massacre, it drops to like 30% as the point of divergence is too far gone.
Season 4 has to be the best, so many plotlines start to merge and reveal themselves The light novels are also an amazing read if you enjoy the anime. If the show is an 8/10, then the novels make it an easy 10/10. So much more world building, depth, and detail that just gets omitted in the anime
Ah yes, season IV when the, figurativly speaking, band of the titanics known as the kingdom of Re-Estize and the Baharuth Empire start playing, truly the darkest season yet, especially with the design of Albedo's sister
in the fight againts Gazef, Ainz used [Silent magic - time stop] which he also used againts the workers who invaded Nazarick. While time is stopped, you cant cast spells. But only about %5 percent of magic casters, Ainz included, can use the [delay magic] metamagic and time it so perfectly that the spell activates the moment time stop ends. Thats why he used [delay magic - true death]. When Gazef stated that he didnt wanted to be resurrected, his thoughts were; It was not that resurrection magic was bad. However, Gazef disliked it. Everyone only had one life. That was why the decision to stake one’s life meant so much. In addition, he could not come back from the dead, for the sake of the Kingdom. If Gazef died, then the King could spread the news that he had lost an important subject. That way, the King could temper the hatred and resentment which the people would feel towards the royal family for all the deaths in this battle. This was a final act of loyalty from the Kingdom’s Warrior-Captain, who had chosen to act selfishly. 16:21 thaty Ainz cast that spell in the first place, to make sure they couldnt resurrect him even if they wanted. In the novels its said "the body will be returned after being properly prepared" and that is probably cleaning the body/casting preservative magic or whatever after death customs the new world has. Also maybe taking a look at what his magic items do. 19:51 true death was a 9th level spell, not a whole lot of people that can use 9th level let alone thoose who know some sort of resurrection. 24:08 momon is Pandora`s actor btw. Ainz is Ainz 29:31 Soon
As someone who owns all the books, it is a good read. 😊 As for favourite season, if the books are anything to go by, this soon to be released part (holy kingdom) will be my fav. ❤
I think Gasef knew, as strong as he was, that he was just a drop in an ocean against the power of Ainz... so he gave his life, given that he is known as one of the most powerful humans in the world, to demonstrate just how insanely strong Ainz is to everyone else. He knew Ainz is not malicious(as far as he's known) so he bet on his honorable sacrifice ALSO stopping the goats too... and really Gasef accomplished everything he intended to. Also it was Pandora's Actor portraying Momon there.
16:13 "They're honoring his wish to not be resurrected." They don't even have a choice at the moment. They know of one adventurer with a resurrection ability, but it's too weak to work against Ainz's True Death spell as he warned them. There would be ways around that still, but they don't have any of these options available at the moment.
19:53 the majority of the kingdom does not have the magical ability to bring him back ains spell he used to kill gazef also negates low tier resurrection spells and high tier ones are rare (other than ains I’m not sure who else can even do a high tier one the only other “full” resurrection I can think of on screen is the blue roses leader)
After this, The King asking Red Rose to resurrect Gazef like she did to her 2 comrades when they killed by Demiurge. However, since Ainz True Death magic spell was a high teir magic, she unable to do it and it spark a fight between them. Also, when Momon agreed to become Ainz follower, he mentioned to the kid and his mom that somebody might cast a spell to that kid to throw stone and want to show Ainz is a bad guy. That kid also said dont know why he do that to incite Albedo anger.
resurrection also has to do with the will of the target as such even if the so called "curse" was removed they wouldn't be able to resurrect Gazef, due to his own strength of will.
AINZ... IS HIM... BUT ALSO A SKELETON 😂🫡

Big info about sezon 4. 4 last episodes if i remember clearly, are skipping ln 11 and 12, which will be covered with Overlord movie.
I will recommend you watch the emenice in shadow it's MC is so funny
If more overlord is what you are after, you could always react to the Overlord shorts: Pure Pure Pleiades episodes and movies. There is also the English translation of the Overlord Drama CDs, which can be found on TH-cam. Drama CDs are essentially anime episodes that have no animation, just voices and audio. The Drama CDs usually roughly indicate when they occur in the timeline of events through context.
Can't wait wait to see you watch S4 it gets juicy
Ains sees death as a mercy so the fact that he chose a time freeze spell and used an instant death spell to kill him shows how much respect he has for Gazef. Quick and painless without even the slightest suffering.
Also, he didn't want to insult Gazef by holding back.
Very true, even his last line 😢
@@FieryMeltmantruely gave gazef the greatest honor in that fight by using one of his highest skill requirement attacks (treating him as an equal in that fight as opposed to toying with clementine).
@@cerberushydra2378 Clementine got the roleplay treatment, and he didn't even use any effort or magic on her, simply hugging her to death insulting and painfully
While gazef got hype from ainz, accepting his duel and using chromomancy as well instant death magic which requires a high level to even use
25:00 Ainz speaks to Albedo in a whisper way because He and Momon have the same voice. He doesn't want other people to hear him.
@@nathanvega6281 How dare you doubt the intellect of the supreme being, Ruler of Nazarick!?
👀
As I see it, the thing about Gazef there isn't really about pride: it's mainly two factors:
1) Duty - he is in debt with his king, and will not turn his back against him no matter what, even if that "honor" results in their collective doom;
2) Ainz - Gazef wanted the others to see what kind of person Ainz was (his powers, personality, and thoughts), so that they can see him objectively and interact with him in an appropriate way rather than just act based on their impressions (living-hater undead, enemy king, evil incarnate, and such).
It not just nothing when it part of the plan.
What is the plan 😂
I personally think there is one more point.
3)Loyalty - By sacrificing his own life he bought time for the king and the solders to escape.
In this way, Ainz never got what he wants (recruiting Gazeff), so Gazeff's resolve still paid off.
the reason ains wants the sword is cos it has the skill to cut ANYTHING which means it might be possible for this sword to cut a world item which can only be destroyed by another world item which would make that sword immensely valuable to ains
it might just be that it has a strong enough enchantment to push it over the lv60 threshold...
Also ainz is just a hoarder every time he sees something rare he doesn't have he wants it.
Spoiler. He wanted it because it went against his knowlegde of Yggdrasil since it was a weak item yet could negate his defences
wasn't a skill , it was made with wild magic

LOOOL
Get this up, people.
If I remember correctly, please correct me if wrong, it goes kinda like this:
Season 1 - Novel 1~3
Season 2 - Novel 4~6
Season 3 - Novel 7~9
Season 4 - Novel 10, 11, 14
Movie (to be released) - Novel 12 and 13

It's crazy that he still can't figure it out. This was the easiest because Albedo would not act all lovey towards Pandoras Actor even if he was impersonating Ainz
The biggest clue's are that Momon (Pandora's Actor) movements are very showy, while when Ainz is disguised he usually moves very calmly.
Also his voice just has a lot more flair here.
@@jefthereaper also the was they both speak is different

According to the author of Overlord there are six reasons why Gazef requested the duel:
Ah thank you!
The one playing hero was Pandora's Actor; the one chilling in the carriage was the real Ainz. That's why Albedo said, "Hearign that from you doesn't make me (sad?)" That's also why she blushed at the real Ainz.
In the dub they changed it to whispered "Even though this is farce, that's a low blow." which made more sense to me.
@@bemusedbandersnatch2069Interesting. That would be more fitting
I was wondering about the blush, makes sense now
I don’t think Pandora’s eye can flash like that either
In the fight between Gazaf and Ainz, Ainz treated Gazaf as if he were a player, casting Time Stop, because that's what he would have done in a PVP duel in Yggdrasil. He'd earlier cast a spell that required a long casting time to determine if there was a player among the Kingdom's forces, but finding none he used a Cash Store item to reduce the casting time.
It's actually Pandoras Actor playing Momon, and Albedo was about to say that she doesn't like Pandoras Actor. Ainz doesn't speak because people might recognize that he and "Momon" have the same voice.
07:53: "Why the guy nod?"
Pretty sure Gazef doesn't get the gaming reference, but he understands that Ainz acknowledges this as a duel between equals.
04:40 "I say pride is the downfall of men."
In many settings... including real life... pride can be very self-destructive.
I like that. I'm totally borrowing that later.
Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer
Mr. Brian had a change of heart when he met Shalltear

You saw it with the crown of wisdom in season one, Ains is a collector type player who hordes rare and unique stuff of any kind.

The "gun maid" (her name is CZ-2128 Delta) will not play a role in the story until the movie comes out. Shes a surprisingly vital part of that arc
Oooooh, looking forward to it~
aka Shizu
Gazef: "witness my final battle" "there is no need to lay your hands on those two"
its not a pride thing. he is doing his job as the head warrior.
(The exception being revivify which has to be used within 1 minute of the person being dead, before their soul leaves.)
After the soul has left the body, the soul has to be willing to come back to the world of the living.
Just remember, Ainz is playing poker while his minions are playing 4th dimensional chess.
11:01 "Doesn't the bell do something?"
He has multiple bells. I don't remember the effect of each, but one has already been shown to disarm traps.
Nothing that will impact the duel anyway.
Disarm traps, reveal hidden secrets and unlocks locks (if I remember correctly). He used all of them in the bordello if I remember correctly.
@@Docktavion I'm not certain, but that seems right.
At the very least, it rings a bell. (Sorry, that was too tempting.)
I watched overlord like 30ish times, i lost count. I love it
The movie that is not out yet covers light novels 12 and 13 that are a complete story arc, season 4 covers light novels 10 11 and 14.
In season 4 he uses a lip bug to have a different voice so he can talk to people without using Momon's voice.
It's always fun rewatching Overlord because what really struck me this time was how different the assemblage of the Nazerick floor guardians was from the usual. In Nazerick it's grand but shadowy and kind of gloomy. In Erantel, they are very much in the bright light of the sun. Symbolism!
22:53 At this point, you've learned to smile to prepare yourself for the despair you expect in this show.
キャラクターや魔法やアイテムなどの設定が本当にしっかりしているので、好奇心や想像力を刺激して「もっと知りたい」と思わせる魅力がありますね。
16:13 no, as Ainz said - he can't be ressurected with low level ressurection they can use because of the spell Ainz used.
24:11 that line alone is how you know it’s pandoras actor in the suit and ains in the cart albedo would actually be hurt if it was ains in the armor
24:09 yep, agreed; Albedo didn't get offended
The thing with Renner is covered in the 4th season of the anime which culminates in scene that nobody saw coming.
No, it was Ainzach, Rakesheer, and Panasolei that were talking about it and it was brought up that there corpses disappeared
Razor's Edge is a Specail sword made from older magic and momon was Pandora's actor ^^
The best part of the LN is the inner dialog of the characters especially Ainz.
26:21 Oh Luke, You don't understand. That animation was vitally important to the story.
7:45 Calling it a PvP is yet another mark of respect from Ainz. He acknowledges Gazef as a "player", that is to say, as an equal.
in the english dub after Momons "noone will marry you" towards Albedo she responded with "even though this is a farce thats a low blow" which I think is so much funnier xD
ainz is a collector of everything thats quite rare, he also collected for example the lizardmen ice sword
lol I love the interaction between Albedo and "Momon". 23:46 Momon was actually Pandora's Actor. "No one will marry a woman like you." Brutal and hilarious when this is being said by the "son" of the man Albedo loves. XD Even Albedo briefly lost focus after hearing that bit of improv from PA with "Hearing that from you doesn't make me..."
Ainz is actually Ainz inside the cart.
Ainz can nullify all attacks under level 60 so the sword is at least higher then that to hurt him
No, its not. Ainz was saying that the data level (essentially weapon level) was weak, and despite that, it could go through his defenses
You have a loooong way to go.
when ainz said the sword can kill him means it's just a sword capable of damaging him... so for someone max level with who knows how huge his hp pool is, it'll still need like countless slash to even lower ainz hp let alone kill him
The sword is the same one the old lady and the dragon were talking about. Its a sword from yggrasil and it was the dragons sword.
I don't understand."
First, Ainz in the cart has red eyes. So guess who's in the armor doing all the posturing.
Second, Albedo is basically being told that she has no charm, which is supposed to be insulting.
Third, she doesn't care about the insult - not too much anyway, but she still winces - because she only cares about the opinion of someone else.
also the crystal ball in the under the Chest; abs area
Lucky you, Luke! The upcoming Overlord movie will feature the Holy Kingdom arc, set to release in late 2024.
Great reaction BTW
I totally get the feeling of wanting more. This show is fucking awesome. I don't think I could ever get bored of this show.
When Albedo becomes his step mother she's going to have some stern words to say to Pandoras Actor about that "that's why your single" quip.
0:25 Movie comes out "At Fall" no known date nor what platforms will show it beyond theaters.
07:23 it only gets better from this point on ! :)
14:02 In the LN out of respect for Gazeff, he pulls out his goat army back (but still threaten to flatten the kingdom if they don't hand over E-Rantel) instead of finishing his rampage.
I did the mistake of getting all 16 and now I just HAVE TO finish them asap haha
I feel like after you finish watching Season 4, you gotta watch the entire series again, at least from season 2, the show throws you alot of hints for the end of season 4 that you either understand or otherwise will never expect.
"it just feels like i havent seen this character enough"
my guy, thats literally because we havent actually seen them enough because overlord develops the side characters more than their main characters
Otherwise the slaughter will come after all of them...
that weapon can "kill" ainz but with nearly little damage lmao, well yes technically can but you need many years to damage ainz with it
Welcome to the finish line, Luke. 1 more season and that "I WANT MORE" you said will slowly start to consume you. I swear season 5 is at the very top of my waitlist even tho it is not even announced yet.
I think it is this summer timer where overlord movies comes out, to where it leads into season 5
23:52 Ainz is playing all 4 sides of the chess board.
Hamsuke &
Nfirea Bareare (there's a female that occupies his role; there's also no connection between the Baeare family and Enri) also don't exist.
Season 4 has to be the best, so many plotlines start to merge and reveal themselves
The light novels are also an amazing read if you enjoy the anime. If the show is an 8/10, then the novels make it an easy 10/10. So much more world building, depth, and detail that just gets omitted in the anime
Yeah, Season 4 is my Favorit as well ^^
Ah yes, season IV when the, figurativly speaking, band of the titanics known as the kingdom of Re-Estize and the Baharuth Empire start playing, truly the darkest season yet, especially with the design of Albedo's sister
in the fight againts Gazef, Ainz used [Silent magic - time stop] which he also used againts the workers who invaded Nazarick. While time is stopped, you cant cast spells. But only about %5 percent of magic casters, Ainz included, can use the [delay magic] metamagic and time it so perfectly that the spell activates the moment time stop ends. Thats why he used [delay magic - true death].
When Gazef stated that he didnt wanted to be resurrected, his thoughts were;
It was not that resurrection magic was bad.
Ainz is Ainz
29:31 Soon
As someone who owns all the books, it is a good read. 😊
As for favourite season, if the books are anything to go by, this soon to be released part (holy kingdom) will be my fav. ❤
31:13 Luke your in sync with the Opening song now.
"You are Hungry for More" 😅
I think Gasef knew, as strong as he was, that he was just a drop in an ocean against the power of Ainz... so he gave his life, given that he is known as one of the most powerful humans in the world, to demonstrate just how insanely strong Ainz is to everyone else. He knew Ainz is not malicious(as far as he's known) so he bet on his honorable sacrifice ALSO stopping the goats too... and really Gasef accomplished everything he intended to.
Also it was Pandora's Actor portraying Momon there.
16:13 "They're honoring his wish to not be resurrected."
They don't even have a choice at the moment.
I think it is less about personal prided and more about duty. He won't join the enemy, even if he dies.
