What a precious little boy. Three months in, I hope all is still going very well. He looks like he was connecting with you two--good eye contact--which is great! I adopted two little girls from China (they are now 16 and 19!!), and it is the best thing we ever did. They are such wonderful kids! All the best to you all!!

Children are shockingly good at judging character and that little boy was immediately completely at ease around them. His reaction to them tells me they’re probably pretty awesome people.

I’m a social worker and I work with foster kids and I truly like the fact that people adopt kids but I do wonder why Americans don’t adopt Americans kids first. They are so many in foster care and many of them are considered permanent placement but that is refer as in the system. They are not adopted so they go from one foster home to another. Is 😭

It's a personal and complicated decision. We touched on it a little in our first video about him in November. We can't speak for all families but maybe we'll make a video sharing more about this in the future. Thank you for the idea.

In the US, a birth mother can change her mind and keep her child after birth and after the adoptive parents have paid a ton of money for her medical expenses, or get her child back even after the adoptive parents have had the child for awhile and have bonded with the child. This is a big reason so many adopt overseas, including myself. An overseas adoption is full and final, and there is not any fear of someone showing up on your doorstep to take "their" child back.
