They have good songs, classics and some hits - "I was born for loving you" here in Germany and elsewhere in Europe at least 1-2 a week on the radio (royalties). But they lived mainly from the stage show and the fireworks. These days, they would not be nearly as successful. At that time it was something new and unique. In addition, Chaim Simmons has managed to turn it into a brand. I think Gene Simmons was all about money and women and Stanley about money and artistic development but not at any price. The only one who was really rock star was Ace Frehley

I was a huge Kiss fan. If you remember at that time, MTV would air full concerts on Friday nights. I had patiently waited all week to stay up late on Friday night to watch it. I was 13 years old and during the 2nd song, my mom passed through the room and heard Paul Stanley say the word "damn". She made me turn it off. Considering the language in songs now, it sure shows the difference 30 years make. Nobody would even blink about someone saying "damn" now.

It's a little surreal going back and listening to this music because I know these voices; they're a theatrical group of guys, they appear in sketches about themselves and voice themselves in cartoons, and then it's like, "oh, yeah, they sing." What a range! At first you think KISS is just adapting for the hair metal era, but then you remember they're one of its progenitors.

This is a really good example of less is more. The guitar is basically just two chords. The drums are a simple 4/4 beat. The bass is pretty normal bass playing, nothing out of the ordinary. You get the idea. But despite the simplicity, it’s great.

I started listening to kids when I was 9. I’m only 12 rn and they are still my favorite band. I’ve picked up some more in the way. AC/DC, alkaline trio, p!nk for some reason, and some others lol. Eric Singer replaced him, and he's also the current KISS drummer. Mark St. John died on April 5 2007 of brain hemmorhage, at the age of 51 years old. He left KISS in 1984, and he was replaced by Bruce Kullick. Both Eric and Mark were good, espicially Eric Carr, my all time favourite drummer!

It's a little surreal going back and listening to this music because I know these voices; they're a theatrical group of guys, they appear in sketches about themselves and voice themselves in cartoons, and then it's like, "oh, yeah, they sing." What a range! At first you think KISS is just adapting for the hair metal era, but then you remember they're one of its progenitors.
I love how Paul and Gene really go all out and get into the songs they play. They were really the heart and soul of the band.

This is a really good example of less is more. The guitar is basically just two chords. The drums are a simple 4/4 beat. The bass is pretty normal bass playing, nothing out of the ordinary. You get the idea. But despite the simplicity, it’s great.
Simple melodies are the real skill. A great 'simple' chorus is incredibly difficult to craft well.
