The next time you ride on an elevator like this you can see the doors mechanism. it is covered by the plank at the right, you can open it and see what's going on. You can't do this with every elevator. In Bulgaria, most of them can be opened.

I'm curious why over in Scandinavia in general (I supposed other parts of Europe to some extent), there are so many lifts/elevators with swing doors? They are so hard to find here in the states, but they are everywhere over there!
