I used a soldering iron and replaced 4 LEDs with singles from ShopJimmy. It singed the back of the strips, and smelled like old cat pee, but it worked! I fixed a 50" LG I picked up for $10 in parts. Thank you for this video and for selling the LEDs!
Doing this for the first time requires a skill level to be built up. Then you may find that the surface mount pad on led is different to to that on the strip. I opened the pad gap on the strip pads to minimise short. I used hot air gun but that will blow the Led off the strip. Used a made up tool that allowed a screw to bare down on the Led whilst being soldered. Test as you go. I used about 40 DC across 14 LEDs. Check for flickering LEDs. Replace as they may be on the way out. Replace any LEDs that are dim. I ordered cold white half watt 3.4 volts. The light has a slight yellow look so when I finished the repair may need to set tint levels to compensate. LEDs back in frame so next job is to re fix the diffuser lenzs then the white back sheet. Two days work so far but speed is increasing. The shop Jimmy hot plate seems cleaner but more for the professional. My wife was not too keen on me using her iron. Thanks shop Jimmy for all the advice.
Used this to repair several strips without having to buy new ones. Removed individual LEDs from an old discarded strip and reinstalled on the one going into the TV. A word of caution. If working on the LED next to the power input jack of the strip, use Kapton tape to hold the power jack in place while working the LED. I had to go hunting for mine after if fell off along with the removed LED!
Great vid, thank you, the problem I have is the larger soldering joint on the strip is Possitive, but the larger area contact point on the LED is Negative !
tested R2 half of led strip.it does not light up.But if i put power on 1 and 1 led ,i find that every led works on it,s own .The led.s on this strip is ok.It has to be a failure in the strip it self.if i use a mutimeter and test continuity on plus test point and the other lead on the plus on the male part where it goes into L2 it has contact. On minus it dont when i do the same.Does the copper traces fail on these strips?
I have one with same problem. A vid I watched here on YT said that YES. Mine also tested bad on negative side of the strip. The vid. instructed to look for spot on strip (neg. track) and that would be where problem lies. I don't know if patching it is worth the try or if it would be safe or not. I bought a new strip.
very good video, but not reheated carvonizar demaciado to the plate where the soldier is led ?, and glue to be used must withstand heat, which they use?
Instead of using the Heat station he used I tried a iron for clothing to no avail then placed a 3X5 piece of 1/4 inch thick metal plate (scrap) in home 5 inch work vise and then took the strip and placed over it and held it in place using a C-clamp you can use channel locks whatever to hold and then I used a propane torch just like ones almost everyone has for old-style brass plumbing soldering etc and heated the bottom of the plate. remove the white round sticker around the LED first as this will melt it is only there to reflect light and removes and installs easy and gluing the diffuser back on holds it in place no matter what . this method removes the LED in about 45 seconds you will her a fizzle and pop that lets you know it can be removed installation is the same . if you set up stands to support the strip you will not need a C clamp
I recommend two soldering irons used in a tweezer action. Needle point tips and it's too easy. One question, how do you check which voltage led to use? 3 ,6, ?? I got a Hisense. Many leds gone. Will order cheaply from AliExpress but not sure if 3 or 6 v. I used 8 v across two good leds and they shine quite brightly. I'm guessing 3v. Edit; there are numbers on the strips that led me to the correct led from aliexpress. 50 beads for 2 bucks.
It makes me a little uncomfortable you didn't wick off the old (probably lead free) solder and apply new solder with a little flux and clean. Thanks for making and sharing these videos!
Dear shop Jimmy I am from India and tried open your website to purchase strip rework station but your website is not working so helpme out from where i can why the same product.
Would not removing the old glue from the LED strip cause a "halo" effect shining through the screen when the TV is reassembled? It makes sense if the height of the lens is that sensitive.
@@olivierj.2435 The diffuser is domed on the underside and has feet. The rear cover the led strips are mounted to is sheet metal and acts as a heat sink
Yes you can but it's needs to be the same brightness as the old one's or else if they are brighter, it's going to leave bright spots, and if they are dimmer then you'll have dark areas on the screen

The horrible in led strips removal from the metal casing is that first all these plastics that you have to remove carefully and then the lcd glass with its thin film connectors without any damage permanent and unrepairable to the glass. And why after all that mess someone should not replace all the led strips with brand new ones avoiding the same difficult procedure in the near future for the next burnt led.Funny, hobbyists seem to be more repair minded than professionals just because they dont know what is awaiting them.

No, because there are diffusing layers between the back lights and lcd to distribute the light evenly across the entire screen.
