Wow, this video is spot on! 🙌 Totally nailed the whole Tana vs Heptabase dilemma I've been struggling with. It's like you read my mind about the workflow friction I've been feeling. Such a relief to know I'm not just overthinking things and there's actually a legit reason behind why certain tools just weren't clicking for me. This breakdown is gold - thanks so much for putting this together! 👏

Another consideration would also be the implementation of/inclusion of AI into the PKM. So that one can discuss, search, extract, summarise, gain more information etc. from ones notes. Constella does a great job on this, enabling one to ask questions, get output reports etc that look at ones existing notes/views AND can also find information on the wider internet. Tana has restrictions on the use of its AI integration (for example can only look at information on a page/note/block not the whole database.

As a knowledge worker heptabase is my first "go-to" app and I am thrilled about the new possibilities in the app especially when it comes to handwriting. And I was also struggelging with Tana because of the connection - if I donthave a stable internet connection (which can also happen in big cities ;-) I can't access nor can I do anything and this is a no-go in my work life. I am happy to see ,that I am not the only one thinking about using merely "just one" tool for all of my work :-) Thank you Tom!😊🚀

one consideration not covered in either Tana or Heptabase is OUTPUT. How easy is it for example to print out say a months worth of journals, or a selected set of 'notes'/cards to create a separate report, journal etc. - include images, and structure (ie. in date order, or in a selected order). ie. how to get the right information OUT.

Great video! I'm really enjoying Spaceduck lately, reminds me of a simple version of Heptabase and with a bit of mymind

the problem with both apps is the security. i always have to store important files somewhere else because both apps are not well protected. no e2e and with heptabase usa-server, which is a no go for europeans who use it for work

Heptabase has a local first approach. Using those servers is optional. Although having European servers would be great.

Seems to be so much thought paid to a systems - and not actual thinking and writing...or retention There shouldn't be so much friction tied to note-taking. I can appreciate the analysis...but a day in this capacity seems paid more toward maintaining a system as opposed to actual thinking/working. Not to mention, migrating systems requires so much effort.
People should use what's most comfortable to capture info. Everyone's brain works in different capacities. Heptabase has a very large learning curve...there are literally hundreds of tools that are marketed (key word here) PKM.
Single source of truth - check your 6 systems.
I'm not sure how productive any of this really is for a busy professional. No disrespect...as mentioned, I respect the analysis and the methodology....but this is just a LOT.

Another top video full of insights, info and structure! I only disagree with your enviable composure to face a migration... I mean if I built my PKM system full of notes and links... it would be a great fear having to move all my efforts so well organized in a tool to replicate it in another one... this is actually what paralyzes me in the choice of the "right-for-me" tool stack though...😅
