I am german, and fillies were actually a big part of my childhood. My grandma always bought me one when I got a good grade. And every girl on my school had at least 10 of them.

That white captain planet was actually an offiicial toy. can't remember what he was, but he was a specialized version of Captain planet in the toyline.
I still have around 200 of them in a box near my bed... Not lying, this franchise was my whole childhood, they're still more popular than Mlp in Germany. And yes. I'm german.

I would like to point out that Filly actually was a completely different brand made during the gap between Gen 3.5 and Gen 4. They in fact are actually getting their own show called Filly Funtasia.

Phelan as a long time fan I've loved this segment/show from the beginning. It suits your oddball form of comedy well. I'm more shocked with the merhorses that anything and am slightly upset with their deep-seeded angry stare.

It's weird that they're called Filly, which means they're kids. But they have babies. So does this mean that they're children of children!? What the hell Germany!?
The name has nothing to do with Germany. The FIlly brand was invented by Dracco which founders came from the Netherlands and have their headquarters in Hong Kong. Simba was producing the toys under lincense and had no rein about anything. And btw., Filly is the name of the main horse (the brown-orange one with white hair) which is seen in the Filly logos.

I've been a massive fan of these as a kid... To this day I have like 60 figurines from eight series, every magazine (yes, there was one!) issue between 2010 and 2013 and I've played with them for literally hundreds of hours with my sister. Let me tell you, the build quality on these is excellent. Almost all of them after years of extensive handling by two kids are still in solid condition.
Also, I am a guy. Someone please kill me.
I have 70 fillies, a plushie, two magazines, a coloring booklet, two boxes, a big figure... yeah, I was obsessed with them as well (except I'm a girl). I decided to get back on collecting because everytime I see one at the flea market I cannot resist. And now I make photographs with them and stuff. I wouldn't say they're that much of a good quality though, a lot of mines are broken (mostly the ones I got second hand)
That Filly Funtasia series has been teased for years now. It already has a built in fanbase, despite not a single episode being made yet. Whyyyyy?

To be fair, that's been around since the 80s MLP with the sea ponies. They even have their own catchy theme song in the movie.
They seem to be based of the Generation 3 version of My Little Pony toys. But, do these count as Bootlegs? I mean, sure, My Little Pony came first, but this toys seem to be a legit toyline from a legit toymaker, and the market of everything is filled with similar products. Like Coke and Pepsi, or Sprite and 7Up. If they are getting a cartoon, and Hasbro hasn't sued them yet... well, I think you understand why I'm asking if this toyline counts as a Bootleg or, or its just a ripoff. It seems like Filly Witchy is the Go Bots of My Little Pony. Wait, are the Go Bots considered a Bootleg? They were basically cheap transformers, and they had their own cartoon show...
Persona Ohnlyne Funny story: Hasbro actually did sure Simba (the former distributor, not creator of Filly) for making toys that resembled MLP too much, but it wasn't related to this brand. They also lost a second case against the same company, because it couldn't be proven that the two toys were similar enough to be confusing. There's legal documents about it if you Google Hasbro vs Simba, but it's all in Dutch, because the courts were in the Netherlands or whatever.
Anyway, the way I understand it, the series doesn't just focus on bootlegs but also on knock-off brands. And Filly started off as a knock-off brand, unfortunately (brony and Brilly here, so just bein' honest). Filly Witchy is also just one tiny part of the series, it's kind of ridiculous. They're like expansions for Magic cards or Yu-Gi-Oh. The next one's going to be Filly Stars.
But to answer your question: Go Bots wouldn't be a bootleg of Transformers, but it would be a knock-off. It was created following the success of its predecessor, and it tried to get some success by using elements from said predecessor. But it also set itself apart as it went on. If it doesn't do that, then it's liable to lawsuits. If it's distinct from other franchises, then it's clear. Compare Pokémon and Digimon, or Magic: the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh or even Hearthstone, or League of Legends and the original DotA. My Little Pony itself originally came out on the back of the success of so-called 'pony novels', so really, in the end it all depends on intrinsic qualities. Looking like something better but not quite matching up is dangerous, but being good like the original as well as being good in its own way are ideal. That's how similar franchises are born and co-exist in harmony.
Or how Internet flamewars break out. Whichever works.

Pokemon is only an animal abuse simulator if you do those dumb "nuzlocke" playthroughs where you get rid of one if it faints. The actual games themselves emphasize harmony and codependency as the normal state, with abusers being shown as villainous.

They're not bootlegs. They're an actual toy line that's probably inspired from G3.5 MLP. I've seen the toys for years and they're getting a cartoon called Filly Funtasia.

Oh my god, his jab at the MLP fans was hilarious! I'm a huge brony myself (I grew up with the 80s ponies) so I was actually happy that being a man and loving MLP is more accepted nowadays. But DAMN the fandom can be mean, easily offended, insane, or just plain gross. It's hard to find MLP fans that aren't so.......yikes. X_x

Oh my God I loved Filly when I was little! I still have a ton of the toys somewhere.
I used to collect the Filly Princess toys. I stopped when I found the princess with the crystal in her crown and now I haven't seen them since.
I can at least give these things credit for having colored hooves XD I've always liked MLP but the one thing I find confusing about the stylization is the fact that all the ponies have hooves that are the same color as their skin, which kinda makes their arms/legs just look like weird fleshy stubs

Those Fillies look a lot more like knockoffs of the 1980s MLPs, but can't for the life of me remember ever seeing them like that (the original figures were about the same size as the modern ones, none of those, um, midget ponies- I mean, "Fillies"). And they're remarkably well sculpted. So it's more of a knockoff of MLP, but isn't, and they're riding the coat tails of the current incarnation more than anything else.
The cartoon is officially now what my nightmares look like, just a constant rewind of 'Where are the cupcakes?'

Since Filly seemed to be so much more popular in German speaking countries I sometimes wondered if the pony toys that I had as a child were even actually part of the old My Little Pony series like I always had believed and not Filly instead. But now I found out that the Filly series only existed since 2006. Yeah, I was already 18 at that time and definitely not getting any more toys unless they were collectibles of series I was still interested in. So unless there was another knockoff series going around the pony toys I had during my childhood are likely part of the old My Little Pony toy line.

As someone who collects the MLP minis, I can tell you for a fact that there are some official minis that look like bootlegs themselves! Luckily, most of the minis look pretty good.
So why are there so many "elf" themed toys for girls, like 3 of the filly sets mentioned here and also that Lego thing I'm mostly aware of because I noticed it had some kind of cheap non-lego anime on Netflix...I mean, Elves aren't a particularly feminine thing usually. LoTR and Skyrim are two examples I can think of off the top of my head, and outside of that I'm pretty sure elves are short guys working as slave labor up north...it could be because they use magic, but they already have fairies, witches, mermaids, etc. for their "things that do magic" quota that would probably appeal more....
The point is that I obviously wasn't educated in marketing cheap crap to little girls.

It's funny you make that comment because I am a total Brony. And I love the show because of it's story arcs. Some of the darker ones are like DBZ for Girls and I love it. I can't wait to watch it with my niece.
I'm secure enough to admit I like that show. I am secure enough that my friends and family know too. Last birthday one of my smart ass friends bought me some pins and I loved them. I have even talked to some dates about it and the ironic thing is they came back and said they watched it with their kids and it's not bad at all.
I think it's a cartoon everyone can enjoy.

Brother Malachai Because even though its obvious that Filly...WHATEVER is cashing in on the POPULARITY of MLP, they can do whatever they want because MLP/Hasbro hasn't copyrighted the ability to make toys based on pastel magical horses. There is no patent on that so and company can come up with their own little line of mini pony toys for kids to whine their parents to buy. Its like Barbie and Steffy. Yes, we know that Steffy is casing in on Barbie but the company can do whatever it wants because Steffy is their own brand like so many other fashion dolls that came out before and will come out after. Aside from that, Filly and Steffy at least have their own characters and designs as stupid as they are. Compare that to Video Brinqudoes (Sp) and Little Princess School which IS blatant copyright infringement since they simply took ALL the designs from the official Disney princesses and animated them in flash and gave them different names if you count Cindy and Bianca being that different from Cinderella and Snow White. (Don't believe me. Look it up. Its terrible.)

Urgh, that advert... it made me want to punsh the TV more than once. In their defense, the real My Little Pony adverts aren't less stupid. I don't quite get how they couldn't even translate this shit to English, Simba has been around for ages they should have the budget to do that much... or just give it to some grade school kids in their second year of learning English who probably know all the vocabulary for the generic bullshit they wrote there.
