You're right. An inescapable part of being human is presenting a mask to the world, and this staging works on that uncomfortable truth. It's a wonderful concept for an opera about illusion.

When you were taking off her masks I started to cry.
This has a very unusual quality. When I cover up the humans and just watch the puppet, it looks like a puppet. When I see them all together, it looks like a person.
彼女は本当にマスクをかぶってるんだな。最後人形が歌を歌ってる人を認識してたのがメタ要素みたいですごく面白かった。もう1人の自分がマスクを被せているっていう演出なのかな？土台に完璧な歌と完璧な人形表情と完璧な人形操作がないと一気に嘘っぽくなるからかなり難しい技術だと思うけど、これは完璧だった。

You’ll notice that the singer also helps with puppeting the hands! These two artists must have worked together for many hours to get the synchronization of the phrasing just right. An incredible collaboration.

What IS The plot about?
@@pabloraluy4832 The magical operas, a small group including Alcina and Orlando, are mainly based on the work of Ariosto or Tasso, and generally deal with some kind of transformation. This means that dramatic realism is less important, but rather it is important to create situations in which different emotions can come to the fore. These operas strongly captured the imagination of the audience, not least because of the ability of the baroque opera stage to be 'spectacular'. This certainly applies to Alcina, the story of a sorceress on an enchanted island. There seems to be an analogy here with the story of Odysseus and his men with the sorceress Circe, told in Homer's Odyssey.
