Damn! The details you guys do are off the charts! The SP and Rio Grande paint schemes are my favorite. The wand removing the coal was pretty cool but I was hoping the magic wand was for a rear marker light or EOD that you could turn on and off like your passenger cars. Next idea perhaps for you guys when it comes to freight cars?? 😉

PA looks great! As a Rio Grande fan, it’s really disheartening to see a lot of my fellow Rio Grande enthusiasts complaining about the green on the nose which is actually correct for the factory paint. It just faded to grey over the years, but your model represents a factory fresh unit.

Good morning Rapido Trains Inc., (RTI), loving the Alco PA class and the PB class units and they have a very very nice and a striking paint schemes for the Era. Although the ALCO P class units lack in emission regulations and modern technology enhancements by today's standards these locomotives are still in the history books.

Awesome detailing on your units! I grew up with Lionel trains, and even as a kid I was disappointed in how 'basic' the detailing was on the units. (I'm probably calling them an incorrect name, sorry!) Having lived in apartments all of my adult life, I was never able to have anything like what my dad built, but I have great memories. I have recently taken up railfanning thanks to TH-cam channels, and I am loving it. EDIT: I just checked your website, and I see why the detailing is so incredible. Your products are high-end, sort of the Rolls-Royce of the rails! Nice stuff 👍

    3 things:
    1. Not enough Star Trek.
    2. Surprised that the Rapido Trains conference room does not look like the Enterprise-D’s conference room.
    3. Surprised that Jason has yet to build a full-scale replica of the Enterprise-D’s bridge in his basement.

The guys on one of the forums are unhappy with some of the details on the PAs. Headlight openings are too big and the grabs being plastic are thick and ungainly. You can even see here the NTA in Santa Fe is a tad lower because it has to be below the headlight opening. Once you see it, you can't un-see it.
But side by side with a Proto 2000 PA the Rapido has better contours, you can see the difference. Hopefully future runs will correct the small issues.

Autoi-flood box is not a clam shell box if it's two separate pieces...a clam shell implies that the box is hinged when you open it as is the case with the PA/PB boxes, those are clam shell boxes.

Southern Pacific replaced std pilots with home-made snow plow jobs a few years after delivery. Later units (PA3s) were delivered without pilots so the plows could be installed upon delivery in Sacramento.
Icicle breakers protected SP-built low-profile domes over Donner Pass on the City of San Francisco and over Cascade Summit on the Shasta Daylight. SP refused to allow taller UP City domes, citing clearance concerns (disproved when Amtrak began running them).

We have 10 of those and they were special built for our mine in 2006/2007.

    • @rapidotrains

The cars are weighted to NMRA standards. As they are an open top car with full interior detail, a die cast frame is the best way to properly weight the model.
