Pregnant Mama Jaguar Who Killed Her Last 2 Cubs Ends Up Giving Vets The Fight Of Their Lives

  • For some animal populations, every single member of the species is integral to its overall survival. This is certainly the case for species like the jaguar, which, according to recent estimates, has about 15,000 members in the wild-at best.
    This is why Spanish zookeepers were so excited when they learned that Xena the jaguar was pregnant. Any addition to the population would help keep the species alive. Sadly, when tragedy struck, the zookeepers were ready to lose all hope… until something miraculous happened.
    Recently, when a group of veterinarians at a zoo in Madrid, Spain, noticed Xena the jaguar was pregnant, they could barely contain their excitement. In no time at all, they would be welcoming brand new cubs into their facility!

    These comments are so lame. People who work in zoos are trying their hardest to keep these animals alive. Jaguars are being hunted to extinction and no amount of laws or keyboard warriors are going to stop them. So if you want the animals to live in the wild then by all means grab a gun and hunt some poachers, but I don’t see any of you doing that.

    This comment section is a perfect example of adults with the mental and emotional capacity of children. Yes animals belong in the wild, but when said wild has been extremely diminished due to industries, which is an advantage to merchants of the black market demand for such animals, conservation programs are necessary. Breeding programs for rare animals in zoological facilities or no more rare animals. Pick.

    So many people are like "She killed her cubs to prevent them from suffering from being in a cage! We need to release them back into the wild where they belong!!1!" This cat was most likely born in full captivity and its likely her parents lived in captivity. If we released her she would almost immediately die within a few days to weeks. From not having fully "developed wild instincts." Either she would end up starving or would be mauled by poachers. Not all zoos and sanctuaries treat them like money making trash and throw them into filthy cages. These people are trying to prevent this beautiful species and many others from going extinct. That's why these animals are in captivity. If it wasn't for the interference of these sanctuaries these animals 100% would've been extinct by now. You claim you love animals and you want these animals to be happy and free you fail to realize that releasing them into the wild won't make them happy and free. You are just sending these animals to their inevitable death.

    • @t.r.1457
      @t.r.1457 5 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      She has very well fully developed instincts. You can prove it by releasing her into the wild. You'd be her food in no time when lingering nearby her.
      Instincts are called instincts for a reason, they can't get lost in cases of wild animals, especially not in predators, not even when those animals were held in prison from the start.

      Animals do that, not just cats. Some ditched their baby and moved away so the scent of the weak dying baby will not lure predator to their tribe etc. Even stray dogs do it, they don’t want to keep a suffering baby one because it would be very difficult to live on if they had to care for another vulnerable life when they themself cannot survive. Some domesticated dogs, first time mother etc, might eat their baby when they’re too stressed out.

    This reminds me of a hard lesson I learned a week ago. There was a baby antelope wandering around all over my property. I decided to fill a bucket of water up to see if it would drink water. It literally walked right passed me within 2 ft but didn't drink. I was wondering why it was alone, mom dead? Health issues? I didn't have to wait long. I was about 3 feet away from it & it began to stumble, fell over & had a full on seizure. Being the mother of a young child, having animals my whole life it was so sad to watch this!! My motherly instinct took over. I walked over to comfort it, stroking it's fur. It sat up a bit, & I was able to put it in a fenced area. It had another seizure & was making this awful noise calling for help from it's mom who was no where around the past few days. I thought about shooting it, but it didn't feel right, it was completely helpless! I got a baby bottle & went back out to give it water. That helped, it seemed more alert. My husband was brining home calf replacer but it had already passed :/ mother nature knows best.

    Maybe her previous 2 cubs were still born or not healthy at birth. So she 'killed' them possibly out of instinct. In the wild any weak or still born animal attracts unwanted and dangerous attention. Which is the last thing any young Jaguar Mother needs. Giving birth can be very tiring and deplete a female Jaguars energy. Leaving her in a vulnerable position. I just hope she has gone on to successfully give birth to healthy Cubs and has looked after those Cubs 💚☮️🐾

    people acted like they didn't know 'non-profit' sanctuaries has less budget for animals than zoos. if you do care about them, go donate or adopt animals (you're not gonna bring them home, just provide money to one animal in the sanctuaries) to your local sanctuaries. PLUSSS sanctuaries depends on volunteer programme a LOT. they're definitely affected by this pandemic, please do donate for them. after all, making people fund the animals by entertaining them is easier than making people fund the animals from donating programme.

      Se A Yeah it would be great if they were in the wild but then they'd be dead, killed by poachers! Jaguars, elephants, tigers, etc are being killed *every second* by poachers so sometimes the best for those animals is to live in a zoo. But there are good zoos where the animals get great care (like this one where they saved the cub) and have huge spaces (keep in mind they didn't show where they are keeping the mother jaguar. I'm sure it's a good enclosure, she looks healthy).

      Your not wrong: That's the problem with this video. If a cat can't emotionally handle having a cub/kitten, then she will abandon them in a sudden impulse of panic. She wouldn't kill them unless there is something wrong with them. I am sure the vets could have checked on the cats more. Then they would have found out about the other two cat's health issues. They could have saved them. I don't understand this video and probably never will tbh.

    Maybe she didn’t “kill” her cubs. Maybe they too were born still born and she took care of these bodies the way animals do. Maybe once the 3rd was revived, he should have been reunited with mom. I hated to see the end pic of the baby with a chain on its neck. Shouldn’t be that way. How can someway “take care” of the animal if they don’t have a proper sanctuary for it?
