Amazing Turtle !!!.. Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups, more ancient than snakes or crocodilians. Of the 360 known extant species, some are highly endangered.
Maya, I breed rare albino and snow turtles native to different countries. As you said, some are highly protected such as Australian native species that can not be shipped out. I am breeding the Australian albino pink belly sideneck turtles here at my place in Florida but I have no idea how the original ones ever made it out of Australia. You could see albino het snow red eared sliders, snow red eared sliders, albino pink belly sideneck turtles and soon albino map turtles on my TH-cam channel. I will be buying some concentric diamond back terripans now since they will be totally illegal in Florida soon. Those in private collections before the ban will be legal is all and they are great turtles as pets.
I sell albino and snow Turtles that I hatch out here but they are very rare and a lot of money here. Imagine those red eyes on mine, totally amazing! A few months ago I was selling the albino het snows red eared sliders for $350 each on ebay but that included free over night shipping anywhere in America . Unfortunately eBay stopped turtle sales though but it is what it is. They go up in price anyhow with age and size for a lot more money so I don't mind raising mine and taking them to expos to sell. You can see these rare Albinos and snows Turtles on my TH-cam channel.
ROFL. She doesn't even provide the turtle with the least amount of care possible for his well-being. Turtles need proper water levels, temperature, etc. And she essentially just threw him in a too small tank and abandoned him. Feeds him probably the wrong diet too.
What a handsome slider! He seems a bit small for that age range though. I don't know how varied they are in sizes, but my red eared slider Squirt is slightly bigger than Franklin and he's only about five years old...
Aw, your turtle sounds adorable. I actually have a male painted turtle of my own who, coincidently, is also named Squirt. As for sliders, individuals can actually vary quite a bit in size depending on a variety of environmental factors as well as probably just genetic variation. Also, females tend to be larger than males. Adult male yellow-bellied sliders typically reach a carapace length of about 5-9 inches (13-23 cm), while females range from 8-13 inches (20-33 cm). Red-eared sliders are actually the same species (Trachemys scripta) but are a different subspecies (red-eared are T. scripta elegans, and yellow-bellied are T. scripta scripta). Being the same species, red-eared sliders tend to reach roughly the same size range as yellow-bellies, though they can max out slightly bigger (up to 16 inches for a very large female). If Franklin were indeed a male, I'd say he's a pretty normal size. However, "he" actually looks like a female to me (very short front claws and a very small tail). For an adult female of that age, you are right that she is definitely on the smaller side.
I was definitely thinking that. When she didn't know gallon size & just showed tank size with her hands, & the vet didn't say anything about fixing that, my stomach fell. It sounds like he's in something less than 40 gallons, maybe even 20, when he should be in a 75-150 gallon at his age.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. As a retired vet tech, I sadly didn't see much exotic animal medicine since a lot of veterinarians don't practice it but it was something so interesting when I worked with an animal doctor who did see them. I enjoyed my exotics that I owned, like birds, reptiles, fish and hamsters(Sometimes 'pocket pets' are grouped into this category as well)
Even being a yellow belly, he/she (I say that because it's possible they sexed it wrong) should definitely be bigger (especially if a she). When she didn't know the gallon size of the tank & just showed the small size of the enclosure with her hands, I wanted to cry. No heater! No digital thermometers, no heater on a thermostat, no ambient heater on a thermostat (UVB does not provide heat, & coil UVBs aren't really safe anyway; tube are much safer & more beneficial), & probably only 20-40 gallon equivalent enclosure, if that, when it should 75+ gallons minimum 😭
Yeah I mean she might be crying like she cares but how hard is it to do a quick google search? It’s not hard to find online what you absolutely need and what these turtles need to survive. That should be the first thing you do when you get a pet no matter what animal it is.
I'm going through this now. I felt the same as her so guilty because I didn't know at first. It's really can just sneak up on you 😢 very informative clip
@@euferdy you may be thinking of a red eared slider! Their average size is a little larger, especially females who can reach up to 13 inches in length. It can be easy to confuse the two species, as they have a similar common name and appearance. 🙂
It still sounds like she only keeps him in something equivalent to like a 20-40 gallon tank, when, at his age, he should be in at least a 75 gallon, if not more. Plus a heater on a thermostat
Poor Franklin, he started to get sickie because his mum didn't take care of him appropriately with the water temperature. Hopefully turtle mum will make Franklin internal & external well.
@Climbing Chef But reptiles hide pain & injury really well due to the vulnerabilities it would create for them in the wild, so they have to already be really ill to start showing such visible signs. Plus, it only takes a simple google search for her to realize her enclosure is much too small, & that he needs a heater on a thermostat.

My turtle has the most beautiful shell he takes a bath everyday for about 10 hours. I have a heater in the bath. He eats and then he likes lay in the sun. We spend a lot of time together. When he wants me to hold him. He puts his head on top my foot. It’s the sweetest. His diet is 25% protein meal worms, shrimp, or dried fish. He rarely gets fruit and when does he’s fond of strawberries, he likes red lettuce mostly we do the vege pellets with the vitamin A and I also shake his meal worms or shrimp with powdered calcium. He’s 6 years old. I’ve taught him to bob his head up and down. I say don’t you think and I’ll bob my head after I make statement. So it seems he agrees with everything I say. He likes to push his ping pong ball around the tub. And he climbs in the dogs water and tips over the doggy bowl. He just started running to the front door with the dogs.
