    So many silly nitpicky comments on this video. What I saw were 2 exceptionally intelligent and well trained dogs. Aussies are the best!

      It is true that some "miniature" and most "toy" Australian Shepherds are mixed with other breeds to get them to a smaller size, but to say they aren't Aussies at all is incorrect. They do have some genetic tie. The little dog in this video was genetically tested and she has 50% Aussie gene with some Sheltland Sheepdog and a small percentage (about 5%) of unknown lineage...So you could say she is largely an Aussie/Sheltie mix instead of "Miniature" or "Toy" Aussie if it offends people so much. Genetics prove she is at least part Aussie, however, which would debunk the comment stated above.
      The truth is it takes time for a new breed to develop. AKC recognized the Miniature American Shepherd in recent years which is largely based off of the standard Australian Shepherd gene pool. If good breeders are out there, and there is enough demand for a singular conformation type, then its only a matter of time before the "toy" becomes recognized as a new breed (also with large genetic ties to the Aussie as that is the "look" and "temperament" most people are aiming for with these dogs) and journeys down the road to genetically streamlined recessive nightmares...in many cases.

      WRONG! Mini aussies are definitely aussies.. My two Mini Aussies have complete blood ties to full size, Aussies, with absolutely no diluting with other breeds. Don't comment, if you know nothing about the breed.

    LOVE your doggies! I have two minis, but one is literally almost a regular size -- and twice the size of the other. Both are merles, one blue, one red. Both have two irises and one blue eye. I loved that you called your little one, "The Sheriff" because my small one, the female, is definitely the boss, as well, and "manages" everyone and everything. Just loved the video, so thanks! Very entertaining! Aussies are amazing and super scary smart dogs :o)

    I loved watching this! My dog’s name was Maggie Mae and she was an Australian Shephered/Sheltie mix :) I miss her so much! She was very intelligent just like your dogs and mastered many tricks, too. This challenge would have been fun to do with her! She’s been going for 11 years now and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about her. I love Aussies, your dogs are beautiful, just like my Maggie. This video reminded me of her, I really enjoyed watching it. Now if I could just get my husband to let me get an Aussie!

    The one on the right is not a mini Australian Shepherd it's a toy Australian Shepherd because a mini is 4 inches shorter than a regular Australian shepherd

    • @wetdogdown9590
      @wetdogdown9590  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mastergamer101 If you want to get technical. Yup. You are correct. She is within the "toy" range standing 12 inches at the withers. She's just a miniature version of the standard.

      +Spike Spikester oh wow 48 lbs. I bought a mini and was told he was going to be 25 lbs. max. Now it all makes sense because he's already 21 lbs at 4 months old. I had a feeling something was off

    • @Marlynnamm
      @Marlynnamm 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no its a mini. I own 3 all with papers. keep in mind Cameras are tricky. that Mini is probably 11 inches dead own. Toys are actually not the best to own due to the process and actually getting them and mixing a smaller breed in the mix and very rare. people mostly claim Mini's as Toys to get more money with less actual Australian Shepherd in them. I do not support toy Aussie breeders at all, the throw aways are unbelievable. if that toy isn't small enough it's a heartbreaking throw away.

      +Mastergamer101 Well if y'all ACTUALLY want to get really technical it can't be a toy because there is no such thing, it's not recognized by the AKC or any other authority...They are just really runty inbred "minis" (Which weren't even a recognized breed until a couple weeks ago, sooo...)

      +anyonlinr she has whats called sectoral heterochromia in both eyes. She looks "odd" because the split colors are opposite from the other eye. I sometimes call her "crazy eyes." She had her eyes checked for congenital defects as a puppy and throughout the course of her life. Other than some mild sclerosis, (which at her age is to be expected and normal) she is healthy and can see just fine.

      The dog has blue eyes with dark spots. Because of the placement of the dark spots (one on top of the pupil, one below the pupil) it looks like her eyes are not focused. They are perfectly normal though.

      I have responded to enough people on this older video regarding this type of comment. Feel free to sift through those regarding my response. You would be surprised at what this dog came back as on her current genetic testing with EMBARK compared to her genetic testing I did on her with Wisdom Panel 10 years ago. The breed as a whole has been mashed together in a mix of genetics to largely display one group of individuals - the Miniature American Shepherd or MAS. The breed as a whole is still very young.

    YAY! THE STANDARD ONE WON! And I just want you to know that mini Australian Shepherds actually aren't Australian Shepherds at all. I think that they are Pomeranians mixed with a Catahoula Hound. Just saying.

    • @wetdogdown9590
      @wetdogdown9590  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nope. "Miniature Australian Shepherds" are known as AKC "Miniature American Shepherds" - they are very much genetically similar to the standard Aussie as the standard Aussie is what the breed was based off of - only smaller. The small dog in this video is technically not a recognized breed, but she is still very much part Aussie (50% to be exact, with the other portion mostly Sheltie). No recognizable pom and defiantly no 45 - 100lb Catahoula in there (that would just be counterproductive). For the sake of this video, the little mutt is simply a miniature version of the standard - which is, in part, true.

    • @wetdogdown9590
      @wetdogdown9590  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amanda D Technically speaking, yes. For the purpose of this video she is just a "miniature version" of the standard. To get real technical, she is not a recognized breed at all and is actually a mixture of Australian Shepherd and Sheltie (that's how a lot of these breeders get them smaller which is why they are not recognized - yet - no clear breed standard/mixture of different breeds). The Miniature American Shepherd (Miniature Aussie) has recently become recognized. This video was just for fun. Hope this helps.

    Honestly it’s not necessarily the dogs breed that makes it smarter because you could have two different dogs and get the opposite results. But anyway they are in all technicalities the same breed except the mini was made by breeding it down sizes by breeding smaller aussies together.

    That is not a mini.....that’s is a toy Aussie. >___>. Miniature Aussies have no build difference but they weigh in at 20 - 30 lbs where as a standards are about 40 to 65. Absolutely nothing wrong with Toy Aussies. Still cute as hell.

    • @wetdogdown9590
      @wetdogdown9590  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically there is no such thing as a Toy Aussie, Miniature Aussie, or Standard Aussie. There is only the Australian Shepherd and the Miniature American Shepherd. The video was just demonstrating a general size difference for fun and games. Most people seem to be hypersensitive to the miniature remark, but yes, she was in fact considered a 'Toy Aussie' 13+ years ago when the MAS were not yet recognized and breeders were all over the place making thier own standards. Her most recent DNA test from a reputable company considers her 100% Miniature American Shepherd-type. So technically I should be calling her a MAS at this point. I don't generally refer to her as Toy as its not an official breed and a majority if not all of her bloodline comes from the Aussies and the MAS (with a sheltie or 2 thrown in for size I'm sure as the DNA test I did 10 years ago would attest to).

    • @erinibarguen914
      @erinibarguen914 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wet Dog Down, I wasn’t really loosing my lunch over this. But like I said there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with a Toy Aussie. A Miniature American Shepard and a mini Aussie are the same thing. In fact it’s what they were called when they were first selectively bred from smaller Australian Shepherds. But they still aren’t small dogs and they HAVE been officially standardized as being between 20 and 40 pounds on average. They had no other dogs in their breeding to make them smaller, they just selectively chose smaller Aussies and bred from that. I own a MAS and he weighs in at 38 lbs at 16 yo but in his hay day he was about 43. And my family trains and breeds them, as well as standards because they are just awesome as your video attests!! A Toy Aussie is shorthand for Aussie’s bred with smaller dogs, like a sheltie or two, to further reduce their size. They aren’t an official breed, no, but that’s okay. The only time I get annoyed with dog labels is when dogs HAVE to fall into an official breed. I own a dog who’s mostly Great Dane but also German Shepard and American Stratford, but I don’t place him in the Great Dane category because there’s no official German Pitdane. Toy Aussies are starting to be bred specifically to be the size of your brilliant baby and like labradoodles and chuaweinies (sp?) and other adorable mixed breeds, it’s only a matter of time before they ARE an official breed. After all all breeds were first “mutts” right?

    • @erinibarguen914
      @erinibarguen914 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wonder if the vet will humor me and call him a German Pitdane now.

    • @wetdogdown9590
      @wetdogdown9590  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only responded due to the overwhelming response on this older video regarding the 'miniature' in my title. I honestly don't really care. She's a wigglemutt for all intents and purposes and I really am fine with that. "Toy Aussie" is not a bad word in my book, its just not entirely accurate since shes very likely not purebred thus the MAS-type sounds reasonable. Not an MAS but an offshoot of them with other potential breed mixtures. Yes, I pretty much say the same thing in some of my earlier comments to people. All purebred dogs are mutts bred down specific lineages for consistent desirable traits. My little dog is just at the beginning generations of such practices as you outlined in your statement. I would argue, however, that the Toy Aussie is more likely to become recognized over 'designer breeds' (doodles and the like) because what I see in the doodles is a lot of breeders just choosing the different purebred cross or 1 generation out (LabxPoodle, first generation doodlexdoodle) and that's it. No breed standard over several generations for reliable traits.

    • @erinibarguen914
      @erinibarguen914 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wet Dog Down very true. I’ve noticed the same issue with breeders crossing dogs with corgis. They are cute sure, but the breeding is all over the place. Plus the AKC is a harsh mistress, and there are a lot of amazing mixes they haven’t recognized yet.

    • @wetdogdown9590
      @wetdogdown9590  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you see some of my above comments, you will see that I am already aware of that. This video wasn't meant to dispute "Toy" vs. "Miniature" vs. "Standard" Australian Shepherds and their ties to pure bloodlines. It was just for fun. But, this is the internet. And the internet has opinions. My little dog is a mutt for all intents and purposes...but most new breeds start out that way. After all, all "purebreds" were mutts at some point in time crossed with varying individuals until a breed standard was created and adhered to.

    There is no such thing as a Mini Australian Shepherd, it is not and will never be registered under such a name by any kennel club worth their salt. There are no size varieties of Australian Shepherd and there will NEVER BE. "Mini Aussies" are either runts or mutts, nothing else. If they are to have ANY chance at being a registered breed, it's under the name "North American Shepherd".
    Please stop spreading the misconception that there are size varieties to Australian Shepherds.

      +Fisher Rendert All dogs are "mutts"...some are just more closely related than others from a genetic standpoint. This video was just for fun - not to debate the topic of whether my little dog is a purebred aussie. Technically speaking, she's not, but there is no denying she has aussie in her and that she is a miniature version in some respect to the "real" mutt - that is - the actual AKC Australian Shepherd depicted in the video.
      The "breed" - if you want to call it that - is still in its infancy. There are piss poor breeders throwing tiny mixes in the pot and then there are others that are responsible with their programs, doing genetic testing, and trying to make it a real thing. Enough input on a chosen standard, then many years of inbreeding and it might be. After all, thats what a breed of dog is - genetically similar individuals which dependably present the same or similar characteristics to future progeny. I wouldn't say never. We still have time to "make" and genetically screw up another breed of dog.
      People should just take this video for what it is. Fun. Nowhere am I promoting "miniature" or "toy" Australian Shepherds. Im just stating what her type is commonly referred to as. No misconception. People can do their own research and come to their own educated conclusion. So, for the sake of argument, we will just call them dogs:

      @Fisher Rendert - I believe if you pull out that stick that seems to be protruding from your backside, you could relieve some of that stuffy arse syndrome that you are laying down for all to see. Pompous douche'.
