  • As Kahlo observed, “I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.” Gain insight into the early life and artistic formation of Kahlo through an exploration of the MFA’s recent acquisition, Dos Mujeres (Salvadora e Herminia), (1928). See how a recent gift of works of art and archival material enhance our understanding of Kahlo’s inner circle in Mexico City.

What a shame that the speaker was unable to give any form of enthusiasm while giving this lecture. As an art lecturer myself, I think it helps those audience members if we offer our lectures with interest in our voice rather than making it sound as if reading off a list of ingredients with a disinterested monotone voice.
This is Frida Kahlo who lived a life full of emotion! Give her life and art the passion it deserves!!

It is awful how the lecturer fails to correctly pronounce "Dos Mujeres" .... NOT EVEN CLOSE. Unprofessional.

Perhaps it got better afterwards, but in the nine minutes, when I took all I could stand, the presentation was nothing but a puff piece for art galleries and the art business connections of the speaker. All if it, further diminished by her inability to pronounce the name of the painting---and obviously her disdain for learning how to.

Geezus, the mispronunciation OVER AND OVER was so distracting. Disappointing performance.

Why do Art Historians focus on the artist's life and not the content and meanings of their work? Do Literature Professors lecture about the author's life and not the meaning and themes of the novel, poem, or story they wrote.

@@gwmc From doing college research for my job. They purposely exclude most of progressive and socialist information in their art. The whole developed world provides healthcare for all and countries with higher and lower costs of living can pay less in taxes for it and they all pay about half of what we pay for healthcare. However, the government keeps saying we cannot pay for it. America is completely corporate controlled. In the 1930's, America was awake. In 2021, we have the most COVID deaths.

Love Frida's art, but the interpretations of it on so many of these Frida videos is simply ridiculous, Frida probably cringes in her grave. Plus the phony i'm-so-special, art gallery scene blah-blah-blah is so far beneath Frida and her work.

The commentator butchers the name: "Dos Mujeres", then contradicts Frida's claim that her father was a Hungarian Jew by claiming that "research shows they were Lutheran."
    Very ignorant statement.
It is a well known fact that millions of Jews were forced to convert to Lutheranism as far back as Napolean!
Not at all impressed with any of the boring narrative that was poorly composed.
The accident at 18 was under stated horribly.
Frida's collarbone was broken, her spine was fractured in 3 places.
A metal pole pierced her body at her hip and exited trough her vagina.
Her pelvis waa thoroughly shattered which prevented her from birthing her 3 pregnancies.
However, the commentator barely mentioned the extent of her horrendous injuries.
