This tiny little thing, believe it or not, is a triple laser DLP projector, and it’s mighty impressive. This is the Philips Screeneo UL5 Smart, an almost pocketable projector with insane contrast, and even more insane colours - like this projector is better in the colours department than anything I’ve ever tested, it’s that insane. And yet, it’s a projector! So strap in to find out why this thing is as impressive as it is, and if it’s worth either of its possible price tags.

Hi. Nice review. By the way, the issue with input lag for gaming is solved by activating the "Game Mode" preset from the projector's OSD menu

I'm the target audience. It's me. I'd like a projector but don't want to have one all the way across the room from the wall. Don't want to buy a screen. It'd be nice and easy to move between lounge and bedroom. I rent a flat up quite a few flights of stairs on my own. No need for a friend to help install a massive TV. Most of the content I watch is TH-cam, Twitch or 1080p mp4s of films. I have decent monitors attached to my PC. So yeah, I'm the audience - I don't want the projector to be taking up space, 50cm from the wall or less is cool.

I bought mine for work. Presenting content at 1080p and having mobility is ideal. It also has the added benefit it can be put in the garden for watching a movie on a chilled evening etc

With a 200ms delay, I would worry about having major lip sync issues with this if you didn’t use the pathetic built-in speakers. And the MSRP is a dreamland number. Maybe if it offered 1000+ nits of brightness, and sub 40ms delay it could be worth £1100. But 1080p 60Hz… Ouch!

Philips claims that the latency is very much reduced if you switch to game node. Did you try that?

What other affordable and discreet options for UST projector? I've used the U4, super happy and UL5 is better... So I'm sure I'll be super super happy.
My question is who is not the target audience? Lol
Joke aside, I don't want a tv and when I watch something very often it is in evening.

Great review. I got one off Indiegogo and will use it on our back deck (outside) for summer evening movies. Got a pair of stereo bluetooth speakers to connect to it. It was perfect for me, because our deck is relatively small (only 2m by 4m) so the short throw was essential. And the portability. And the built in apps. We have power, so really it's just the one power cable for the projector and the perfect backyard movie setup. I can understand what you're saying though... limited use cases that make sense for it.

Would love to see a 1440p version in the future

I have a billiards room where I want to watch TV, but don't want to put any furniture to stage a TV, nor wall mount as it juts out. This will be cleanly mounted on the ceiling.
I can also take it pool side and watch a soccer game once in a while. I have a Ust already with an Alr screen, that's more for home theater use.
The use case for this is for flexibility and casual viewership.

I got this because it's the only small and "portable" Ultra Short Throw projector on the market.
Keywords - small, portable and UST. (I have the Anker Cosmo laser capsule but it's not UST)In the future I would get them if they added 4K, built-in battery, laser tvs.

Moderately interested but your review persuaded me otherwise. Too many compromises. Perhaps the next generation when they ramp it up to 4K

Are there any audio delay issues, or does it sync audio to it's own display latency? How about with a bt speaker?
Has anyone attempted anything like an objective brightness measurement? I don't know if that's even possible, because it would have to do with reflectivity of the wall surface.

🙋‍♀me, that me. i would be perfect. it's for buissness. and for traveling where we can not make sure the AV works where we are. so for me this is just what im looking for.

Would this be a perfect traveling projector for business presentations (mostly PowerPoint and some explanatory videos)? or would the brightness be a showstopper for the average meeting room?

@@richardlynneweisgerber2552 CD is an obsolete technology that didn't even last a decade and died more than ten years ago, which explains the poor quality of the products manufactured by the company.

The fact that a company the size of "Philips" needed to release it first via crowdfunding hints that they weren't even sure if it would sell, themselves.
