Thank you very much for all your Land Cruiser videos, for 1HD-FTE intercooler you don’t need this giant intercooler HPD Front Mount Intercooler Kit is all you need 👍
Good to see another Celt taking care of an Amazon 👋 I have an 04 plate which looks like a twin of yours (minus the bits you've done!). From my 'tuning' days, the intercooler upgrades I did were to give that extra capacity for increased boost etc, so unless the intercooler is limiting in it's factory form it won't typically make a noticeable difference for the most part without doing other work e.g. exhaust system, intake, extra boost etc. Enjoying watching the vids, keep them coming! I'm 3 weeks into ownership and currently working my way through buying bits to do a 200K miles reset on it!
I'll try not to hold it against you. I used to do a bit of work in the RAC insurance offices down your way. Long time ago now! Haven't been down since about 2011. At least you're closer to a bunch of cruiser garages
Great video. I fitted the same intercooler several weeks ago but wasnt happy with the fit so when I had more time I took it off and refitted it. So in total i managed to spend about 4 days fittings this, including moving the transmission cooler and adapting the power steering cooler {which is different to yours, being a 2005 model} . Mine didn't have any instructions, not that they seemed any good to you. So I did fit mine slightly different to you but with the same end result,no power increase yet. I've since fitted a 3" exhaust, and that's been a nightmare too. lol I've made a little video of mine too but need my daughter to edit it down, not sure if to put it on here or not.
I had an Alisport intercooler fitted a few years ago to my 100 series, It was fitted by a land cruiser specialist as I was having other work done at the time, I haven't noticed any difference in performance but to be fair I think other things need to be done alongside the intercooler like a different exhaust system etc to really notice a difference.
I share your pane - Im at the other end of the M8 with the same vehicle [2006]. It's been a long road to get it to where it is. 260k miles on the clock and drives like a dream. But boy has it cost me £££!
Oh yes of course you'll be in the mega roadtax bracket with that one too. Ouch ouch. Are you west coast or east coast end of the m8? If its west, how are you coping with the rust?
@@landcruiserscotland Hey Im East - North Berwick. However my 100 spent 16 of its 18 years just north of London - so the chassis is actually very goog, and it's been serviced every 10k miles. There's a little bubbling one one of the arches, but minimal. But the costs add up - serviceable items, AHC replacement, some body work, professional underseal and lots more. £11k to buy, and about the same again. Frightening!
@@landcruiserscotland I had my local garage do the undersealing [and all the other work] They are fantastic, and do a lot of LC work others wouldn't touch - North Berwick Garage. I would definitely recommend them. Just back from a few days up in Perthshire with the LC - Slept in ARB awning room under the ARB awning. Room for 4 chairs and a table. And wine.
Wonder if a high flow muffler and 3 inch exhaust would be a worthwhile addition to your intercooler? You might find the intercooler helps better in a hot climate or summer time in your neck of the woods? Thanks for doing this, I was contemplating doing the same, but won’t bother now. I’m going to try a 3 inch exhaust tho. (Just done my pump and injectors, will let you know the results).
I have fitted a decat pipe which actually did provide a noticeable improvement in turbo spool. I may yet fit a full exhaust system. What did you choose for injectors?
@@landcruiserscotland I chose new old stock, denso Toyota injectors (standard at 2800 first crack, second crack 5400ish). A good mate sources and rebuilds old ones. I put up a video showing the old squirters and then the steps it takes to replace them. Have noticed a lot of improvement, but as the video shows, mine were worn out. Luckily, we didn’t need cats or that nonsense in New Zealand until 2010. My old mule is 1999, pre any emissions. About 15 years ago I cut out the factory muffler, and just left the resonator at the back. Hard to say if it helped. Sounds better tho. I’ve have kept away from over size injectors or unichips that just pump in more timing, fuel and heat. There is a Aussie outfit that makes a proper swap conversion for the intercooler. It’s not as big as yours. I think I will do a turbo flange, back proper 3 inch stainless. My turbo is just within spec as well, so will leave that alone for now. When I do replace it, I will get genuine Toyota. Sure they are expensive, but this one has lasted 650k and 25 years. As for power, When towing I run standard size and winter when I’m working in the mountains (I’m a fur trapper) I run 33’s. Even the 33’s rob a bit of power. Have u thought about a marks part time adapter. Turns it in part time 4wd. That makes a fairly big improvement. They steer nicer, you’re not fighting the wheel when powered up on a corner. Plus you’re not turning the front diff and axles for no good reason. I’ll keep an eye out for your video posts. Thanks, Sean.
@@landcruiserscotland oh btw, with a larger intercooler, did u notice any increase in ‘lag’. If I’d paid more attention at school, I guess I could work that out ;-)
I didn't notice any difference in lag or power from the intercooler. So other than keeping the engine cooler it appears to do nothing 👌 I'll take a look at the part time 4wd - this vehicle never leaves the tarmac. The 35s make it drive very very badly in terms of steering, braking, acceleration. So it no longer goes fast enough to be a problem!
@@landcruiserscotland but the 35’s look cool ;-). There is a American fella who makes a speedo correction device for these wagons. I bought one and it works a treat. My speedo was out nearly 7 kph at 100 kph and we pay diesel road users (some commie in govt did that years ago). If your speedo is out a lot with the 35’s. If you google Lutz speedo correction. Also another mod that helps is a torque converter Lockup switch. This makes the auto box sort of manual. Locks up in every gear and gives u a split in second. Very good when towing or off road in low box. It’s a Aussie outfit. Wholesale autos I think the name is. Or if u Google ‘ask orto’ and lock up switch.
It Dosnt seem to be direct fitment at all. And for £600 you have an expectation that it's a mount and forget about it. You did well for all that headache. Seems custom may have been better. Great video, though

Yeah definitely get some uploaded! The more land bruiser videos the better! Such a shame that they are so much work for everyone to install

I certainly expected that I wouldn't have to start cutting it up to put it on!
That's crazy to me you paid so much yet still had to do so many modifications to get it to fit. I wouldn't have been too impressed either.
Not what I expected for sure. I could have had one custom built for cheaper and I wouldn't have needed to spend weeks bodging at it
@@landcruiserscotland did you reach out to the company you bought it from?
it's direct for a manual transmission i guess
I reckon it would still need some bracket cutting at the bottom, but certainly the pain of the cooler relocation would go away
