In the past few years, it was more and more obvious that this was no longer the case.

There's a lot of nuances in Japanese language, for those who don't understand Japanese, there are various way to refer to yourself, based on your position to the listener. Yoshi-p always refers to himself as "Boku", which is in many ways is equal if not lesser to his listeners. There's a lot of humility in his language use. Though normal in Japanese professional language especially talking to high value clients/customers, it's still a humbling experience seeing him speak to Asmond and Rich in that way.

So it shows that he indeed is humble when speaking to Asmon and Rich, but isn't fool and assumes that developpers of a game that don't play their game doesn't deserve customer respect. Regarding streamer priviledge:
When I played, I didn't have people running around following me, obviously. But I had no problem queuing to dungeons, and I als found people helping me or explaining mechanics there. Like I had an entire group of players who were obviously experienced and knew the dungeon come back for me because I got lost. I kinda just lagged behind after the boss watching cinematic or loot (don't remember) and didn't know where to go. And rather than clearing the dungeon as fast as possible they actually came back for me and guided me to the next area. And that's just one example - they were generally very positive and that made me want to do the same when I was more experienced, and I led the way around more labyrinthian dungeons if the tank didn't know where to go, just running a bit ahead and letting him do the pulls. And again, no one ever had a problem. I think I met an actually toxic player in a dungeon ONCE.
TLDR: your streamer privilege experience is not that different from common experience. If anything, it may be slighly worse actually.

    • @Kanamon22
      @Kanamon22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

Agree. The biggest difference of having streamer privileges with the overall experience is :
1.- You'll get a lof of gifts like minions and mounts.
2.- A lot of gil on trades
3.- No need to buy gear cause high chance someone is gonna give it to you
4.- Short queues as a dps.
And that's it. I have more than 70 days played in the game, never encounter some asshole in game (at most 1 in a city when asmon start playing the game), specially not in dungeons.

Because of that I do the same when I have spare gear or food items to give to new players.
Also my monk glamour is that of Rock Lee from Naruto. I'm constantly getting tells in the chat about how they like my glam or random players giving me the thumbs up and saying "believe it!".

Just chatting with them gave me this feeling that there were actual people who CARED about my time in the game. And worked to make it as great as possible. Losing GM's in game and seeing them replaced with Blizzards robotic automatic response system is just cold blooded and often wastes your time leaving you with no resolution to your issues.

They've saving money at the expense of reputation and player sentiment. That's a fine trade-off to make when you're peak Blizzard and people love you, but now that the shiny has rubbed off and they've done that trade dozens of times over, all the little hurts add up to a lot of disappointment.
Blizzard made that trade too often and for too long. Used to be I'd buy anything they published just because I knew I could trust Blizzard to make the best game they knew how - if I didn't like it, it wouldn't be for lack of trying.
Now I'm not even trusting Blizzard to do a decent remaster. They've sold franchises like Diablo and Warcraft down the river so often I don't even trust them to do justice to their own legacy content.

And other people have also done this and some maintain multiple games at the same time.

On the topic of designing easier content as a hardcore player ~ 29:07, iirc the savage/extreme fights are (or used to be) kind of the early development versions of the fights that they then tune down for Normal content, which is why Savage is actually called "Version 0" or to use a term more closer to FF, "Type-0" in the Japanese version.

I guess I was ahead of the curve since the beginning. I’ve always bounced between different MMOs since the early days, because I LOVE MMOS in general. I think the reason a lot of WoW players have traditionally been bound and gagged as Blizzard’s love slave, is that they started WoW when they were young (maybe in junior high or high school), and that’s all they needed because it was polished. I’m older, so I was playing Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes and eventually FF 11…all before WoW released.
I was heavy into FF11 starting at it’s launch in 2002, and then WoW came out. All my friends were talking about it ( I didn’t care about the Warcraft universe in general), so I got the collector’s edition at launch because it was a hyped new MMO. And let me tell you is was……pretty good. It didn’t blow my socks off like it did with all the MMO virgins (as a matter of fact, lots of experienced players were making fun of how streamlined and easy mode it was, compared to the ball busting aspects of traditional MMOs of the time). I played it till level 60, unsubbed and went back to the actual hard content of the FF11 Chains of Promathia quest line (took me months to finally finish it and a get a feeling of achievement that no other MMO has given me since). When I would get pissed off at another hard roadblock in FF11, I would unsub and go back to WoW for a few months until I got bored again.
Eventually in 2010 FF11 started consolidating servers, so I had to give up my character name because someone already had it on the target server I had to go to, so I quit altogether. Went back to WoW off and on until FF14 1.0 and then 2.0 released, bounced between FF14 and WoW for years until WoW just screwed me over too many times and I quit it altogether except for expansion launches. It’s amazing that t took this long for WoW players to realize you didn’t have to play just one MMO until the end of time. Welcome to a bigger universe.

A minor thing that actually says a lot about YoshiP is the way he addresses himself in Japanese. He's 48 but still uses "boku" instead of the more masculine adult "ore" or the gender neutral but more formal "watashi" that most adult men would use. Technically "boku" is a less formal version of "watashi" but its most often used by younger guys who usually swap to "ore" in their mid to late teens to show people how grown up they are now. The fact that he hasn't done that implies he doesn't believe he is "grown up" enough to use "ore" and that he's still kind of a kid at heart. I don't know if that is 100% the reason why in his case but tbh I'd rather have someone like that in charge of making a fantasy mmo than a by the numbers type.

    • @yenny-uu4ei
      @yenny-uu4ei 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Quite a number of adult Japanese men use 'boku', the term has nothing to do with age.
'Ore' is considered very casual, thus it'll be regarded as very rude to be using it in a public interview such as this. On the other hand, using 'watashi' can come off as very stoic and stiff. We can interpret that using 'boku' shows that YoshiP doesn't wanna appear as a very uptight person.

He's had other streamers tell him to "fuck off" from games? That's incredibly stupid of them. Just do what Zepla did. She was probably the biggest FFXIV streamer before all this craziness and when Asmon started saying he'd come over she immediately started interacting with him. To the point that she's been on Allcraft twice, once as an emergency guest. Which means she seems to have made friends with Asmon and Rich, in addition to expanding her audience quite a bit.
I just can't understand a streamer being so incredibly stupid as to think increasing the audience of a game they play is a bad thing.

Regarding your initial point, I feel like there is truth to the fact that the community is better.
I enjoy MMOs but am mostly a solo type of player. Started playing 5 months ago...got 2 jobs to 80 and one to 50...queued up with a lot of ppl and did many raids without an FC. I've yet to find a group that even came close in anger or toxicity to what I was experiencing in WoW.
You probably dont have the time, but to try this for yourself, i suggest playing off stream on an alt char.
Maybe i'm still new (5 months isn't that long in the life of an MMO), but that has been my experience so far.
Love the vids with your MSQ, Preach. Keep them coming ^_^

Seeing Yoshi talking shop about MMOs in general instead of just spouting generic info on a certain job or whatever has been fantastic and far more than I expected to see coming out of the media tour. All these new people and fresh perspectives entering the community has been absolutely fantastic and I hope the trend upwards continues.

The sprout mechanic is what gives people a great new player experience. If people see that icon, any time you make a mistake or even pre fights in dungeons, everyone is quick to politely explain that you did wrong or offer to help in anyway. That same mechanic in WoW would be a giant target for group kicks and being bullied.

I remember my first dungeon, having the sprout 🌱 above my head and immediately being asked if I was a genuine new player. Was a great introduction to the community and experience. This was perhaps a month or two before the big wow exodus so sprouts were still kinda rare.

As new player myself, one thing that is different for me is when I'm on arr, I found some issue with the game, that is actually fixed in heavenwards, then found issue in hw then fixed in stormblood, then I realized maybe some of the community just are so sure the problem will be fixed in the next expansion when they got bigger budgets

The integrity of this company ended up being the deciding factor that pushed me over the edge when it came to buying that 1,000 dollar Y'Shtola doll.
I want to prop her up in my office, so she can remain a memento to all the good times I had in FFXIV, and just how much the community and developer was invested in the quality of the game. The heavy price-tag will just server to add some weight and gravity to the lofty ideals and idealism it represents.
So when folks are like "Wow, you spent a grand on a doll? It's not just a doll. It's a symbol of a legacy. Also, it'll appreciate in value, lol. The Nier dolls are already twice their initial price.
