I appreciate that you're discussing the psychological effects of debt...I'm paying off my student loan and I just feel down because I feel like I'm not paying it off fast enough (but in reality I just need to accept that it takes time)...I'm one of those "I wanted it done yesterday" kind of people lol
I totally agree with the loneliness. Everyone is going out for meals, going on vacations, buying whatever. I know most are in huge debt and these things are just making that debt worse but it's hard sometimes when it feels so draining sometimes.
writing it down so helps see what you have. THEN make your pay off plan!!! It works! I just paid off my $58k student loans!!! Next is the car and then the house!!!! We are so focused on doing this.
You will definitely change if you are doing it right. I see everything differently. If someone told me when we started our financial journey that we would be moving towards minimalism and zero food waste, I would’ve never believed it. But here we are...working towards both of those, happily.
LOVE this video! We are 3 years in, right nowbI am between bargaining & depression. If it wasn't for the TH-cam community we would be alone. Thanks for the video!❤😊
Great analogy! Spot on. I’m currently slugging through paying off my mortgage! I’m 62 and want to have this done in the next 2 years!!! I think I can, I think I can🚂🚂🚂
Great video! 2020 is going to be the year I give up nonsense purchases, live a frugal lifestyle and get out of debt. Thanks for all your wisdom, encouragement and inspiration! You’re quite a lot of help for me with motivation and direction. It always helps to listen to someone who’s been through it and let yourself learn! Thank you!!
i have never bought water in a bottle (tapwater is fine), and never used wipes, so saves the planet and my pocket. i have an old volvo i have had for 10yrs and it was 10yrs old when i bought it.....and its still good....went on a 200mile round trip this year in a day, and it went fine, my back was the weak link.....however things last longer then you think they do, and saved me a ton of cash.......
Today at work, one of my co-workers said, “Hey, it’s Tuesday!” So I looked at her and said, “Hey, guys, it’s Dana and it’s Tuesday and it’s time to talk about money!” Everyone looked at me like I was crazy. I was excited because it meant a new video today. And we are in the midst of our Baby Step 2 and are rolling through all these emotions still. We are definitely “debt movers”. Thanks for the video and the motivation!
Reading comments explains why Americans are so in debt. I never understood why people in U.S. are so incapable to manage their money. All the pressure to buy and keep up false appearances.
Given that the process of getting out of debt or saving money can make a person feel down in the dumps, perhaps it's a good idea for people to make a plan for free or low cost ways to combat that when they start the process.
This video has given me some fantastic tips and advice, just what I needed to hear right now while clearing out my debt. I love watching all your videos and keep up the fantastic work!
The debt journey can be very defeating... it’s kinda like weight loss! 🤣 I will say though that I consolidated a few years back... tons of credit card debt. It truly was the best decision I ever made. I don’t think I could have done it if I hadn’t consolidated. I would just caution anyone looking at consolidation to do their research... on the company they use, what it will do to your credit which will effect what you can do in the future. Etc, etc. take time and research before deciding consolidation is right for you.
I think consolidation loans CAN be helpful to get some people out of debt, because they mean all the debt is in one payment, which makes the math easier, but if they get a consolidation loan and tell themselves that in itself means the debt is gone, then that is them kidding themselves. I'm pretty sure that's what you meant, but it came across in the first two minutes of this video like you think they are exclusively a bad thing.
Thanks for the heads up Dana..I'm just getting started with this journey.. just five months in and at first I was really motivated but now I am starting to experience what you are saying..I have three kids below 12 and I am mostly scared for them missing out on their childhood ..I feel I will have to take breaks sometimes to allow them to experience some excitement and also for some extra curricula activities..what do you think? Can we go hard at debt with younger children ? Our debt free journey will take at least 8 years
So is debt consolidation bad? I paid my way thru college so I don't know about school debt. But my son is. I've always heard of consolidate, arrange for debt relief, or even forgiveness. How does that work? Or am I just lying to myself (or my son; teaching him the wrong thing)?
Its a metamorphosis. You're changing from a Caterpillar to a butterfly! Its not always pretty, and there'll be times that you NEED to coccoon, and some things that need to happen in "private." Behind closed..whatevers.😉
Dealing with debt is such an emotional roller coaster!!!

I think that comparing the stages of grief to debt is right on!

I think it’s so cute that you have a framed picture of Dave Ramsey behind you. 😂💗
I’ve gone thru all these stages! Especially the screw it up stage lol but I’m determined to get rid of the debt I have.

Yes TH-cam helps so much

This was GREAT Dana. Very clever how you compared it to the stages of grief.
This is my Tuesday morning fix!

These are so true! Thanks for such an honest video. Getting out of debt is hard in so many ways, but I know it will be worth it in the end!

I enjoy your videos although I have no debt, not much income but no debt. A retired senior.

Lo Marie. Just jealous!

Don't rock the boat Mike
Thank you. Had to rewatch.

Lying to yourself
sounds like my weightloss journey
So wise !!

Getting out of debt then getting back into debt is yucky. Do our cows even count as debt?
Help! I want to buy something I can't afford - please convince me not to.
