I love how both Pizza Tower and Anton Blast have pretty much the same story of "Antagonist fucks with protagonist out of spite and the protagonist goes ballistic"
There's definitely a difference in motivation for the protagonists, though. Peppino is fighting because his livelihood depends on it (and is scared as _s(taunt)_ the whole way through), but his fighting style technically has nothing to do with pizza-making. Anton is fighting _because he wants to_ (in theory he could just go buy more booze, and his job as a demoman was never in danger), and he's _using his job skills_ to do it. ...Annie and The Noise, on the other hand, are both doing it just for shits and giggles.
Antonblast's artstyle is incredible! Super cartoony and so full of personality! The graphics are very GBA-esque, which I really love as well! Your nephew blasted it out of the park!
Reminds me of Earthworm Jim if its animated series had its own "New Batman Adventures" moment where they redid the art style. Also, you must be ancient and yet you still hang around with the hanger-ons of good ol' Binty over here. Never quit your passions.
Pizza Tower is more Sonic and Wario like while Anton Blast is more like Crash Bandicoot and Wario mixed into one. With the smashable crates and Antons open smile. Even his new design is very Crash Bandicoot esc.
Seems to be a bit of DKC in this one too, between the cannons, the background switching (I know this is also a Virtual Boy Wario Land thing), and the screaming pillars that smash you from the background.
At some point I saw a comment that described the plot of this game as a combination of Beavis and Butthead and the Binding of Isaac and that description feels surprisingly accurate
agree 100 percent. pizza tower has great animation but it doesn't take advantage of being pixel art as much, it's just regular art that happens to be pixelated. This game leans into the pixel art heavy though and the style squeezes every inch of detail possible through the low resolution
For some other 2D games with sick art style from the recent years and yet upcoming, I can recommend looking into: Cookie Cutter, Blud, Decline's Drops, Magenta Horizon, Symphonia, Kraino Rebirth and The Eternal Life of Goldman. Would want to mention Immortal: And the Death that Follows too, but that one isn't as visually impressive as these others.

i'm pleased to see that this game is every bit as manic as what the demo promised and then some. i also like how satan in this game is straight-up the red guy from cow and chicken; it's a very good fit for a game like this.

This isn't an animation?" I can't wait to rig my enemies full of dynamite and scream like a maniac, then settle down with some Anton!
Pizza Tower had Wario elements with some Sonic in it, but this game literally SCREAMS Wario Land 4. It even uses the warp noises when you exit a level in Wario Land 4.
Fun fact: According to some of the marketing for this game it is implied that Anton is Amy the Hedghogs father Edit: Or Amy Rose whatever works for you

Having just beat the game myself, it's definitely worth the wait, and I honestly find it more fun than Pizza Tower, largely due to the controls feeling more satisfying and overall being easier to gain momentum by comparison. When it gets fast in Antonblast, it gets REALLY fast, and you especially feel that in the later levels (I dread if Vinny decides to continue the game and reaches the final level, iykyk)
The soundtrack goes way to freaking hard, it's incredible. I wasn't expecting music as good as Pizza Tower. Satan's not just Cow and Chicken's Red Guy, he's also equal parts Anung un Rama and AOSTH Robotnik.

Ngl, Pizza Tower already scratched my Wario-like itch and I never really had much of an itch for Wario-likes to begin with. I did play the demo on the Switch and it was admittedly too fast and disorienting for my elderly 30-year-old brain and he moved like Sonic if Sonic automatically accelerated to top speed from pressing the d-pad while also expecting precision platforming. The visuals and cutscenes are on point though and I hope it's a success.
Honestly I find Pizza Tower to be the faster game overall and putting much more emphasis on it with it's ranking system. Antonblast can be fast paced too but there's also just as much substance trying to methodically go throughout the level, absorbing the vibes and grabbing collectibles. Anton also controls really well when you're not constantly mashing the dash button so he can do precise platforming as well.
Totally I love the visuals and style but Jesus my brain is overstimulated 😂 maybe it’s the combination of screen shake and fast scrolling? I guess because PT didn’t have such a frantic amount of screen effects and super fast scrolling (despite the fast gameplay, the screen didn’t seem to pan all over the place) either way I love it still, so hectic and over the top in the best way possible

And for the scrolling issue, just taking things slower until you know how route through the level more easily.
They're very different games even if they draw from the same wells. I'm will say I'm more a fan of PT because I like going fast and clearing things in sequence, but this game has it's own aggressive appeal.
I think I found my issue. The Switch demo still had the combo system on by default so it gave me the impression that you were meant to play through the game quickly. The game's mechanics and level design definitely seem like they encourage you to take your time, so it was probably for the best that it was made into a separate mode.
