I started racing in the early 70’s fell in love with the sport, Stingray bikes and other that were 20” wheels , stayed in it until the early 80’s when l compited in the nationals 3 times in the old country, from 79 to 83 raced motocross and bmx , one time l rode my YZ125 in the morning, got home and took the mongoose for a ride in the local track, the difference in weight and handling caused me to crash, from there on l learned to practice only one sport a day, thinking back those were awesome years, summer vacations were all about bmx all day ,about 20 of my friends and I would go from one track to the next, got home in the early evening and after a shower go check out the girls, the type of racing in this documentary seems a little too elaborate but still fun, l want to thank the adults of my youth who gave us time and used their own money to keep us busy doing something fun👍🏼👊🏼

2020. I remember racing the nationals with Timmy Judge, Rich Farside and Pistol Pete...I miss those days. 53 years old but might get on a cruiser this summer!

It started off as bicycle MOTOcross, now it's evolved into something that looks more like slope style bike racing, not BMX, guess I'm old school...or just old.....

It's evolved in the same way motocross has, into supercross racing with jumps and whoops. The original MX tracks were fields that you went back and forth over, and it was all in the turns, now it's about smooth landings in the jumps.
For sure BMX has changed, but I definitely think for the better in terms of professional sport. If you wanna just rip there's still grass fields (for the time being at least)

I miss the golden years of the 80s & 90s. The UCI Swiss character is right - It has become overkill. Too many good riders getting injured in their prime, or worse.

9:14 it was illegal to pull away from the gate before it drops when I raced BMX, but apparently that's allowed in Supercross BMX.

It looked more "fun" in the early days. Not as much pressure as you didn't need to prove yourself in a professional manner. Just fun.

Forgot about this comment but watched the video again 😁 i want to ad... also the tracks are boring these days. All that same principle and same hard gravel courses. No dirt so it hardly resembles what made it "cross" in the first place 🙄

Bought a second hand bmx last week by the way 😎 at 43 years old. Its a midskool Redline from 2000 but made it with a wink to the old days. Repainted it and mechanically had to do a few things. Also.... i made a number plate 😎 maybe i'll make a little video about it and inspire some other people.

RIP Scott 'OM' Breithaupt. Was he around when BMX finally made it to the Olympics as a sport? There was an American BMX racer called Miranda in this video. I'm wondering if he is related to one of the original old-school BMX racers in LA, "Hollywood Mike" Miranda? I used to hang out a lot in West Hollywood, but I never knew Mike.

Bmx may look overkill in this but if you think bmx is lame go watch some trail bmx videos, that’s the real soul of bicycle motocross🔥

When I was a kid in the 80s we raced from ages 10 2 about 17 years old what's up with all these old farts where are the kids!

Fun for all ages dude. Some of the older riders raced their whole life and others never had a chance as a kid. It's cool you were able to, not every kid that wants to is able.
