I remember watching the 07 movie so clearly. It was *packed*. My family literally had to sit in separate seats around the theater. People snuck into the theater and sat on the stairs just to see the movie. No one cared. It's still one of my favorite movie experiences of all time, even though I watched it as a kid. I thank the 07 movie for introducing me to the transformers. Don't know if I would be a fan now without it.
A lot of people think Transformers was popular before 2007 but it was very Niche. The 2007 Movie brought the franchise to the biggest popularity ever. No matter what you think about them, these movies were huge as hell.
Your last video was one of the most comprehensive pieces of transformers lore on the internet, looking forward to watching this one all the way through as well!
It was genuinely refreshing to hear such appreciation for the '07 movie, while still being able to acknwoledge its flaws. It's gotten so tiring hearing so many people tear into it and the movie franchise as a whole, and while I get the criticisms I'll still say the '07 movie is genuinely a fun watch every time.
As someone who doesn’t really like the Bay movies now it was nice hearing a positive perspective on it & brought me back to being a kid when they were popular
Having sat down and rewatched the first one a couple months ago for the first time since seeing it in theatres it's... genuinely somewhat sobering, because it actually has its share of genuinely fun, funny, and even charming moments (like, holy crap I forgot Sam started as an actual character)? The movie-verse is really something that started able to go one of two different ways, and unfortunately the stuff that needed to be worked on/pushed back instead became far more prevalent. Transformers 07 certainly isn't a "good" movie, but neither is it a bad one.
@@danielm.5078 I think what caused the Bay movies to amp up the worse aspects was Kurtzman & Orci not being the writers past Revenge of the Fallen (and of course the writers strike that happened during that movies production). I remember going to see the 2007 movie on my birthday, me and my dad walked into that movie a little curious if it would be good or not. We walked out we both agreed it was a good movie, I begged my dad as soon as it comes out on DVD, we needed to get it. That was probably the best birthday present to have in July of 2007.
Transformers Animated and Transformers Prime really balanced good storytelling, humour, actual stakes and weight, and managed to appeal to both old fans and the kids that would become new fans.
The Unicron trilogy was my introduction to Transformers. I even learned what the older fans felt like with armada when animated came out. Although I learned to like it.
I was going to say the same thing! I remembered the autobot race as soon as he mentioned it. I had a few toys but none were complete. Optimus missing 2 drones, Omega Supreme missing his head etc etc
These are genuinely some of the best, most concise and well put together videos i’ve ever watched on TH-cam! You either have the greatest memory known to man or you really do your research because as a life long transformers fan, your takes and opinions on almost every single property are how i remember feeling or how i remember general audiences feeling. Great stuff man.
Sadly, Sept. 11th changed the status quo for Robots In Disguise. I also remember my brother recording this for me, because I was elsewhere. I still appreciated that he did that for me, without even asking what was in it for him. I went back and watched the DVD version, and fell in love with this. Granted, the English dub could've been better. The JPN original has now been subbed by Karyuudo Fansubs. I grew up with Generation 1, and I LOVED!! TransFormers Armada, even with its faults. When I first heard about a live-action TransFormers movie, I was totally against it. Granted, Cybertron aired out of order, I loved it. I loved the robot designs (thank you, Gonzo!!). TransFormers Animated was originally known as TransFormers: Heroes, which sparked my interest. When I found out the name was changed, and saw the character designs, I completely dropped any interest.
Wow, this has been the single most introspective, and fun video I’ve seen on this platform. Super underrated, you’ve earned my sub, and I’ll be sharing.
For as much as the some of the dialog has aged in the '07 Film, the effects haven't aged a day and the action is outstanding. I'm glad I was born at the right moment to be a kid and be there for that film and introducing me to not only the franchise but one of my favorite artists, Linkin Park. Thinking back on it more, Transformers was a big part of childhood in the mid-00s as I got more into a longtime love of all thing mechanical and science fiction.
i am amazed how good and well made are these documentaries by you, it's obvious that you are huge fan just like me by watching this, this is must watch for every TF fan. I have already watched the first one, got amazed and entertained at the very beginning. Thank you so much on your determination and love for TF for leaving us this beatiful documentary series!
I was 8 when transformers 2007 came out, i LOVED it so much, the mindless action is what made the movie so good to young me and the nostalgia from it is why im able to enjoy all the movies following it 😂
You're efforts in putting all this together are greatly appreciated, I've binged watched the first two instalments and have barely blinked. For years I've been meaning to re-watch the Bay movies, you're enthusiasm for them has pushed me a little closer.. well, maybe with regards t the first one.
I have a softspot for the unicron trilogy. It's what got me into this franchise in the first place. Even to this date armada stands as one of the best transformers cartoons ever. Energon is... Well energon but i can't hate it cause it was the first transformers media i ever saw so even if it's not that good i still like it. Cybertron was an all around good show although it was the most "toy market" heavy show of the trilogy. So i have a lot of nostalgia for the trilogy and i love all three of them. Great analysis!
Absolutely love this series! Fingers crossed you get all the ad-revenue you can since so much love and effort is put into these. It's also so refreshing for the live action movies to get praised when they deserve it! I can't wait to go and watch part 3 since since DoTM and Prime are my absolute favorite bits of TF media
I never watched armada except for the dvd I had of the episodes about Unicron and they are so nostalgic to me, I'm gonna get the dvd out tomorrow and watch it. Great video, your retrospectives are amazing, you're going somewhere
Funny thing about JP Armada and Energon is that Megatron never actually changed his name to Galvatron after getting his new paint job during Armada. He became Galvatron after he had been resurrected at the beginning of Energon.
The transformers: cybertron intro is one hell of a takeback for me. It's possibly the first ever transformers series i have watched. As soon as the intro played, feelings of familiarity and joy came to me instantly.
These retrospectives give me all the little details that make me laugh, cringe, and all the while feel complete excitement for what was and is my childhood. Can’t wait for the new movie next year!
Tbh revenge of the fallen is a gulity pleasure of mine just because I grew up with the unicron trilogy and seeing Optimus combine with jet fire in live action got me really excited in the theater
ROTF was the coolest movie I had ever watched when I was a kid. The toys were cool as hell too but I could never get my hands on them. Leader class Optimus prime was everything I wanted...
Found your channel from the series on the MCU. Amazing work there and here. I didn’t keep up with the shows or anything after my childhood years until the 2007 movie. The Michael Bay let’s blow stuff up negative narrative is what people act like that’s all these movies were. I get it but there were some great moments in there. Watching these clips and coverage of the 2007 film it was such a jaw dropping portrayal of the Transformers for those like me who hadn’t seen them acted out on screen since childhood. Amazing work on these retrospectives!

Armada was MY first proper transformers show. I saw Robots in disguise before yeah, but Armada was the one that really hooked me and made me a fan. Especially in the last third of the show it REALLY picks up and has one of my, still to this day, personal favorite endings. And no Starscream is as interesting to me as the one from Armada honestly. Learning it wasn't all that popular with the larger fandom later on in my life was a shock to be honest. Rewatching it now...yeah I guess it has its issues, but i still have a warm place in my heart for it.
One thing you gotta love about Michael Bay is that it seems like his only goal when making a movie is to make the rawest shit possible and he damn near always achieves just that
Yeah but the movies aren't really good just explosions. Like he takes the whole " turn off your brain and watch" to a new level. usually movies like that are alright but idk I didn't like any of them except for the first one.
For all its issues, of which there are MANY, I admit it. I love the murder psycho Optimus from the Bay-verse. Im a 90s kid. I remember watching Beast Wars. Armada is the one I loved the most. I even remember forcing myself to like the redesigns in Energon. I know Optimus has never been a borderline sadistic death machine. But it just does it for me. The Last Knight was offensively bad, but Optimus severing five deceptions with one swing was so awesome. He's what keeps me coming back. Despite how bad those movies progressively got.
Bay Optimus isn't even a psycho; he's a brutal, yet brave war hero and his depiction in the Bayverse is actually a pretty consistent one across each film, no matter how bad Age of Extinction and The Last Knight were when it came to continuity.
@NebLleb He was consistent through the Bay movies. But even Peter Cullen said there were a few lines he didn't even want to say because they clashed with the depiction of Optimus that he's been portraying for almost 25 years. "Give me your face," and "We will kill them all" come to mind. The brave war hero from basically ALL other depictions of the character was never brutal enough dig heated hooks into a decepticon's face and tear his head apart. He wouldn't break Starscream's arm, rip it off, and bitch slap him with it. He literally peeled the Fallen's face off before plowing his fist through his back and out of his chest. So he could watch as Optimus crushed his heart in front of his face. Bay Optimus buried an ax in the face of a non-aggressive Megatron who just saved his life and was actively trying to negotiate. Then, he tore his head off. Ripping out a portion of his spine in the process. All Optimuses are brave war heroes. But Bay's loves the violence, and you can not convince me otherwise.
Took me back so hard hearing about the huge explosion of fans for the 07 movie. I remember scrolling through tfw2005 for concept art or speculations of the robot modes. 😊
I've been playing this series over my truck's radio on the drive home for the past few days. It's so well written that you can follow everything by ear.
really enjoying your series , it's so refresing to hear a narator who hasn;t got a flat monotone delivery and not going off on a tangent of "what if" just a entertaning revue of the franchise. well done sir
My dad rewatched the live action transformers movie like 11 times when we got it on hi def dvd. We had a full surround sound system and high definition tv. That film is quite something amazing.
Honestly, I feel like Transformers Cybertron is the Best in the Unicron Trilogy for if you watched this as the Japanese Release (TF Galaxy Force), especially separating from Armada-Energon, it's all the more Entertaining to watch...
I think my favorite part in first bayformer's movie is where all the decepticon doing the roll call when summoned to the damn and they like speaks in cybertronian, that is super cool.
While the Unicron Trilogy was a messy sort of shows, with Energon being actually my favourite when i was growing up in 04... I was a kid with the attention span of a gnat and enjoyed whatever was put in front of my dopey face. I can safely say that the unicron trilogy is still in my top 5 Transformers series and still holds a great deal of nostalgia that i will got back and watch it every now and again in full.
Fantastic job with this. The Armada era happened while I was in high school and thus I totally skipped all those anime seasons. Thanks for summing them up so I know I wasn't missing much.
I admit I was one of the naysayers for Animated because _How does this design work? How do you make THAT shape fold up into THAT shape? This is an impossible task!_ And then they released the toys. And I was like "... Well, okay then." And Animated is pretty much the pointiest peak of Transformers media I've experienced. Peter Cullen may have been Cartoon Robot Truck Dad when I was four, but his show was bizarre and disjointed when I go back and watch it today. David Kaye was a role model for a young man learning to be an adult.
I still yearn for a return of Armada Starscream; the tragic and noble warrior who only sought recognition from a man he admired, recieved nothing but abuse, and learned what true comradary was before a poingant sacrifice just to make a point. If any series needs a re-master, it is Armada. That show was only held back by scripting and animation errors.
I'll be honest I was born at the beginning of the unicron trilogy some of my earliest memories are from when I was 4 watching the 07 movie and I really enjoyed it
Honestly, even if you hate Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, there's one that can't be denied; this movie allowed Transformers to enter it's Golden Age. With this Movie we wouldn't have amazing things like the Cybertron Games, Transformers: Prime, or even Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the best Transformers sequel by Michael Bay. I will admit ROTF has issues but for me it's more watchable than Age of Extinction or The Last Knight.
Just randomly stumbled across your videos and honestly these videos really reminded me of my childhood of watching these shows and movies! Keep up the good work!
1:29:53 … thank you bro! Honestly. Cuz like, noone gets it. THIS is why 2007 Transformers is Legendary. Noone thought it possible and Michael Bay made it real for us all.
Thank you for this in depth summarization of Transformers during this time period. Really disappointed Alternators/Binaltech product line wasn’t mentioned, though, as this is one of the highlights during the early 00’s.
This was the era I grew up on. Cybertron was the first piece of Transformers media I experienced so seeing the trailers for the first live-action movie made me love my mind. I was basically on a Transformers binge from late 2005 all the way up to 2013 with Prime's season 3 ending.
Nothing beats boredom like watching Owen Wilson narrate the entire history of the Transformers franchise.
Dawg 😂😂😂

Learning it wasn't all that popular with the larger fandom later on in my life was a shock to be honest. Rewatching it now...yeah I guess it has its issues, but i still have a warm place in my heart for it.
I just finished part one this morning! Awesome!
Criminally Underrated Channel
This one is the best episode, 'cause it's got TFA in it.
(But fr these are all peak)
2:15:04 god I still get chills from this moment in the trailer. Can’t wait for the movie to come out I’m sure it’ll be great.
Thank you for this series. I just had a 4 hour drive from Miyazaki to Fukuoka. This video and the first in the series came in clutch. Thanks a lot.
I absolutely loved the sheer brutality of the Bay films! Finally! The kid gloves are off and the real Transformers can shine!
Your documentary style of video is Awesome love your content.
My dad rewatched the live action transformers movie like 11 times when we got it on hi def dvd. We had a full surround sound system and high definition tv. That film is quite something amazing.
Great vid. Takes me back to my college years. And informed me of many things I missed.
Going to go buy Transformers Animated and watch it with my son.
loving these videos, exited for the next part
These videos are unbelievable. I've watched them all a few times each now. Very well done.
I finally get to understand the whole Armada era..l thx.
Also, I love the thought of SkyBite swimming the seas for eternity just being a robo shark.
Your series here is so highly underrated! 4k likes is way to little for these sets of masterpieces!
Honestly, I feel like Transformers Cybertron is the Best in the Unicron Trilogy for if you watched this as the Japanese Release (TF Galaxy Force), especially separating from Armada-Energon, it's all the more Entertaining to watch...
Blurr's death in animated is crazy. And it's crazy nobody talks about it after it happened.
I think my favorite part in first bayformer's movie is where all the decepticon doing the roll call when summoned to the damn and they like speaks in cybertronian, that is super cool.
I remember brushing off TF animated because of how plain and lighthearted it came off but then really enjoying it in the end.
This is an impossible task!_
And then they released the toys.
And I was like "... Well, okay then."
And Animated is pretty much the pointiest peak of Transformers media I've experienced.
Peter Cullen may have been Cartoon Robot Truck Dad when I was four, but his show was bizarre and disjointed when I go back and watch it today.
David Kaye was a role model for a young man learning to be an adult.
I remember the Transformers 2007 movie was my first ever PG13 film. I was only 6 when the movie came out.
These videos keep me sane at work, thank you prime
Armada and Energon were my 1st transformers shows I watched so I love the nostalgia
I never realised how many Emergon toys I had as kid, thank you for this video and bringing back lost memories
Transformers Energon was my introduction into the franchise im happy to see someone talking about it
Yet again another awesomely detailed and long form video of yours. Cant wait to see Part 3 and 4!
Just randomly stumbled across your videos and honestly these videos really reminded me of my childhood of watching these shows and movies! Keep up the good work!
Very well done with these Retrospective Transformers vids!
"Defeating Megatron once and for all."
It gets funnier every time Lol
None of you have any idea how extremely happy I was to see that Burger King commercial again for the first time in sooooo long
1:29:53 … thank you bro! Honestly. Cuz like, noone gets it. THIS is why 2007 Transformers is Legendary. Noone thought it possible and Michael Bay made it real for us all.
dude!! just.... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Terrific vid! Ah, yes… Memories. I still have my uber collections of toys from every show spotlighted in this epic vid. Subscribed!
