That's awesome how has the engine and "glass" transmission held up through the years? About 10 years ago i had to sell off my fairly big game collection so my family wouldnt lose our house. Back on my feet, this week I finally was able to pick up a retro console and I got a JP model 1 Saturn with 2 controllers, Panzer Dragoon 1 and Fighting Vipers for 100$. Yo I swear on life, the opening sound along with the female chanting the word Sega, if Sega were to ever have another video game system this should be the intro on the power up every single time you cut the system on. This is nothing short of perfection as far as a Sega intro goes. It’s just sad to say that, I think all of us diehard Sega fans will never get that dying wish of the company.
Still scratching my head as to why Best Platformers didn’t make the cut of the original video, when that is a main category for most consoles. Still glad this full video was posted.
In Europe the Saturn was so underrated even more than United States. I think you can see way the prices are so high for games as people are starting to realise this is such an awesome console!! Like it should have been. Great video this really it's a nail on the head for the best of the best the for this console. Thank you 👍🏻
It wasn't amazing with the small pal library. Amazing just in Japan. The overwhelming majority never got to Europe. Regarding RPGs, you can even say it about the SNES
Great video I watch all of your stuff please keep them coming awesome to see I'm glad I'm me turning 40 in a few months born in the best generation of gaming from calico vision to PS5 thanks again.
Merry X-Mas m'lord. I'm going to re-ask for an episode like this on the 3DO or what I would consider the "best of the rest" of the 32/64-bit generation.

I clicked on this video assuming this was covering the "Best of the Best" movie that came out in 1989, I was like didn't think this movie got a Saturn port 🤣. Great work as always, Merry Christmas!!!
Still the best channel for SEGA lovers! I recently read about the newest Polymega (have you covered it?). I’d love to know how it’s SEGA emulation works and HDTV light-gun(s)???! It’s been my dream SEGA would build an All-In-One console to play at least Master System through Dreamcast plus extra arcade boards, via original cartridge or disc or even card: a machine that’s okay anything SEGA created, with built in extra RAM, storage for 999 saves or more, tweaked to modern TV’s and again, light gun support. They’d sell phenomenally! Especially if internet was playable but NOT required!
I tend to agree with you that it was almost criminal that Sega didn't market arcade perfect editions of quite a few superscalers like Outrunners, etc. I actually bought the Mega-CD a couple of years earlier in the hope of this.
For me DARK SAVIOR and LEGEND OF OASIS are RPG, but for me DARK SAVIOR is a better game (in the top 10 saturn games for me), but Oasis is also a great game (in my top 20). And Shining Force III for me is #1 strategy (and #1 overall saturn game). Panzer Dragoon Zwei is #2 and yes the graphics on the game are mind blowing... Dragon Force is #6... At the end, the 4 years SATURN was alive, where my best time as a gamer...
The Saturn launched with a pack in game and internal memory to save games. The PS1 was 100$ cheaper but you needed to buy a game and a memory card to save any game SEGA took so much flack for the price but never fought back the narrative. You were actually saving money compared to buying a PS1 with a game and memory card
I couldn’t disagree more. I personally didn’t like early 3D and stuck to sprite based games for the most part. I avoided the Saturn completely because while sega made some great games the company was very poorly run and honestly not to be trusted. It’s like Warner brothers. They own some great ip and employ some very talented people but management makes so many mistakes you are better off ignoring most releases
Puzzle: Puzzle Bobble 3 (I've played so few puzzle games on the Saturn, it'd be a little unfair of me to pick anything else) Light-Gun: Virtua Cop (you heard me) スポーツ: NHL All-Star Hockey '98 (runner-up Greatest Nine 98) Racing: Kingdom Grand Prix (if you think that's cheating, then pretend I said Daytona USA: Circuit Edition) Adventure: Story of Thor 2 (I was bound to agree with you, sooner or later) Strategy: Sakura Wars (runner-up Bomberman Wars) RPG: Panzer Dragoon RPG: Azel (runner-up Grandia) 2D Fighter: Street Fighter Zero 3 (still the best Street Fighter game ever) 3D Fighter: Last Bronx (runner-up Fighting Vipers) Shooting: Darius 外伝 Beat-'em-up: Crows: the Battle Action (look, I'm just as surprised as you, but it's really fun) Run-and/or-gun: Silhouette Mirage (though I really want to say Elevator Action Returns... let's call that my runner-up) the other kind of Shooter: Alien Trilogy Platformer: Shin Shinobi Legions Den X 3D Plat: I... I dunno. I got nothing on 3D platformers. Uh, that one cutesy penguin game? I've never played it, but it looks better than any other 3D jumpy game on the Saturn. And by the way, Bug! is a bad game, and one I do not count as a 3D platformer, not really. the better Dreamcast controller: NiGHTS, by default. No other answer is really valid, except maybe some of the racing games that absolutely need it. Party hardy: Saturn Bomberman (runner-up NBA Jam) Arcade port: Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Console exclusive: Fighters Megamix Good Tunes: Panzer Dragoon, for the title screen music alone (runner-up Burning Rangers, for "Burning Hearts, Burning ANGEL" alone) Gorgeous Spritework: Princess Crown Rich, Creamy 3D Graphics: Sonic World in Sonic Jam 10/10: Bulk Slash (runner-up Virtua Fighter 2) I'm adding a couple of genres I feel were left out. Horror: Enemy Zero (runner-up The House of the Dead) Fly-forward-shooty Shooters, Sprite-scaler style: Night Striker S (runner-up SEGA Ages Space Harrier) Fly-forward-shooty Shooters, 3D style: Panzer Dragoon Zwei (runner-up Stellar Assault SS)
The Saturn's story will always be an interesting but sad one. If not for the weird management, launch and regional company in-fighting, this console would've easily been the greatest of it's generation as far as the library goes. At least channels like yours do it justice by spreading knowledge of all the gems it had.
While the PAL copies were slowed down, they admittedly had more pleasing covers to look at whereas the USA/JPN ones were either in white or a in a CD case. Same happened a generation later with DC in PAL region getting cool thick cases with kickass artwork. I wish someone from Sega could explain _why_ this happened just for a specific region rather than for two or all.

first, you was right about the popcorn, second, vandal hearts is amazing
Thanks for the amazing content you produce. Merry Christmas and have a wonderful 2023 🎄🎄
I'm not even a gamer but watch your videos ✌️
I love you content so much!
Greetings from Germany from a Sega fan, too.
Sega dropped the ball in marketing the the saturn in NA/EU. The words you just said, sega should've told everyone in E3 instead of the suprise launch
Merry Christmas to my favorite TH-cam account ever!
I've said it before, but the Saturn really got smoked by us gamers. We were all so gaga for 3D that we ignored huge games in the mid-nineties.
My Best Party Game: DEATH TANK ZWEI, a hidden bonus game that came with Duke Nuke'Em.
What a wonderful gift to curl up to on this frosty night. Merry freaking Christmas to all!!
Excellent list thanks
Thanks for watching!
Very good timing now that I finally got my steam deck and ready for some emulation action
YAY! Nights into Dreams! The Christmas Nights into Dreams is the best 'FREE' game they ever released for the Saturn as well.
Puzzle: Puzzle Bobble 3 (I've played so few puzzle games on the Saturn, it'd be a little unfair of me to pick anything else)
Light-Gun: Virtua Cop (you heard me)
スポーツ: NHL All-Star Hockey '98 (runner-up Greatest Nine 98)
Racing: Kingdom Grand Prix (if you think that's cheating, then pretend I said Daytona USA: Circuit Edition)
Adventure: Story of Thor 2 (I was bound to agree with you, sooner or later)
Strategy: Sakura Wars (runner-up Bomberman Wars)
RPG: Panzer Dragoon RPG: Azel (runner-up Grandia)
2D Fighter: Street Fighter Zero 3 (still the best Street Fighter game ever)
3D Fighter: Last Bronx (runner-up Fighting Vipers)
Shooting: Darius 外伝
Beat-'em-up: Crows: the Battle Action (look, I'm just as surprised as you, but it's really fun)
Run-and/or-gun: Silhouette Mirage (though I really want to say Elevator Action Returns... let's call that my runner-up)
the other kind of Shooter: Alien Trilogy
Platformer: Shin Shinobi Legions Den X
3D Plat: I...
Party hardy: Saturn Bomberman (runner-up NBA Jam)
Arcade port: Cyber Troopers Virtual-On
Console exclusive: Fighters Megamix
Good Tunes: Panzer Dragoon, for the title screen music alone (runner-up Burning Rangers, for "Burning Hearts, Burning ANGEL" alone)
Gorgeous Spritework: Princess Crown
Rich, Creamy 3D Graphics: Sonic World in Sonic Jam
10/10: Bulk Slash (runner-up Virtua Fighter 2)
I'm adding a couple of genres I feel were left out.
Horror: Enemy Zero (runner-up The House of the Dead)
Fly-forward-shooty Shooters, Sprite-scaler style: Night Striker S (runner-up SEGA Ages Space Harrier)
Fly-forward-shooty Shooters, 3D style: Panzer Dragoon Zwei (runner-up Stellar Assault SS)
The Saturn's story will always be an interesting but sad one. If not for the weird management, launch and regional company in-fighting, this console would've easily been the greatest of it's generation as far as the library goes. At least channels like yours do it justice by spreading knowledge of all the gems it had.
An already good video made better.
Rly helpful, now that saturn mister core is approaching the finishing line.
