New changes to the Portuguese Residence Programme ⬇
As a result of the meeting of the Council of Ministers on 3 June 2024, new measures were introduced to safeguard the regulation of migration in Portugal.
The plan is based on the principle that Portugal needs and wants to welcome more immigrants for demographic, social and economic reasons, but this immigration must be regulated and supervised, accompanied by humanist immigration.
It is divided into four main areas of action:
- Regulated immigration;
- Attracting foreign talent;
- Human integration that works;
- Institutional reorganisation.
In the chapter on regulated immigration, we highlight the revision of entry rules, namely the abolition of the Expressions of Interest procedure. But also for the Resolution of Pending Cases and Irregular Situations, which will involve the creation of a mission structure to resolve the more than 400,000 pending cases.
If you want to submit a request for an expression of interest under articles 88 and 89 of the Portuguese Immigration Law, Law no. 23/2007, 4 July, in its current version, you must apply for a residence visa in your country of origin or residence.
