I remembered "Shinzo." It used to be a favorite of mine before I realized how crappy it was.
The plot was bad, that's why we tend to forgot this anime..
But the opening was great, no wonder bcs Ayumi Miyazaki who sung this, he regularly sing for digimon evolution theme

I searched this anime for TEN YEARS. Watched it somewhat in 2000s on cable, I tried really hard too find it and youtube just casually suggests it...

I didn’t know this anime turned 20 years old on February 5, 2000. Happy 20th anniversary! English dub of Shinzo was now 18 years old in the 18th anniversary on July 6, 2002.

Holy crap, that was awesome. I only ever got to watch this anime in English as a kid, but now I kinda wish I could've seen it in it's original Japanese. Still, the English version did make my childhood awesome. The only thing I really didn't like was how the series ended.
Yup, an AWFUL ending of a pretty GOOD anime.
Just like another "mostly-English" anime, Sonic X.

Yakumo is the monk, Mushra is Son Wu Kong, Sago is Sha Wu Jing and Kutaru is Zhu Ba Jie.
It's kind of a post apocalyptic take on Journey to the West.
I knew I wasn't crazy, I remember seeing this in jetix and used to tell people if the ever saw this show, Glady I know it's name now, thanks TH-cam to recommend this xd
On Jetix it aired under it's English dub name of Shinzo. At it's core it's just a retelling of Journey to the West, which is a retelling of Dragon Ball.

Oh, I remember wathcing this when I was a kid! It was part of a routine I had along with Pokémon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Slayers.

The early the late 90's and early 2000's is when anime became mainstream in me life. RTE 2 had a show called the Den where THIS anime(along with Digimon and Pokemon) was airing, and was called Shinzo. Sky One(back when it still aired cartoons as the norm) had Yugioh, Pokemon, Zoids, Transformers Armada, among other regular cartoons. We have another channel that held a studio Ghibli season of movies, called Film 4, that aired allot of older films and the like. Fun fact:it even held the old western, Rawhide, staring a young Clint Eastwood. Back when the Sci Fi channel was still good, there was a point where the anime fan withing was sated with a GOLD RUSH of quality anime viewing:Dominion Tank Police, New Dominion Tank Police, Giant Robo, Violence Jack(THAT was a trip and the music), Shadow Skill and many more! These animations are simply DIVINE. Violence Jack is among me favorite, The animation had an aged look about it and the voice acting was good, Jack himself is like a giant version of Wolverine with a LARGE AS HELL, Jack Knife that he claims has given him its name. And in a fight, he sounds like a mad man when he cries out, but its so good. The Hells Wind ending theme is so good. It sounds so serious but has some prominent melody to it and the guitar instrumentation is SO SWEET! HUH... FANBOY MODE ACTIVATED, much lol!]XD... There is one rare anime that was a part of me childhood, well 2 of them. The New Adventures of Peter Pan(Peter Pan and Wendy in Japan), though I cannot find the English dub online. And Gigantor, it played on The Children's Channel. My childhood was awesome and even after my coming of age, life was good, but now... All that I hold sacred is in jeopardy. We must preserve the past on hold on to what was good for today's generation to learn from and know what we once had. The first Never ending Story film is a marvel of the past, but even today, it can be improved upon with the advancements in technology, something would still be lost. We must not abandon EVERYTHING from the past, as some withstand the test of time!

子供の頃、婆ちゃんちに泊まっていた時に見ていた記憶がある。毎週みていたと思う。
死んだらカードになり、そのカードを取り込んで強くなるんだったか、そんなストーリー。主人公が仲間二人を亡くして、彼らのカードを取り込む。そんな話が朧気にあった。
題名は気にしてなかったし、ストーリーも覚えていない。ただ、婆ちゃんちであの話を見ていたのだけは覚えている。
だが記憶違いや妄想だとしたら、あの何気ない思い出はなんだったのかと思うようになり、この動画を見て、ようやく題名を知った。小さい頃の記憶は無くなったけど、これを見ていた事は確信した。
去年に婆ちゃんは亡くなった。
俺は婆ちゃんから何か取り込めたのだろうか。
色褪せていない20世紀最後の東映土曜日夕方アニメ。また全話配信して欲しい。

One of the best animes EVER. I loved this so much, I re-watched it recently, but I remember eargerly waiting to watch Shinzo every night on Jetix, even if they were re-runs. I watched it in english dubbed, but does anyone know where I can find it subbed?
