A friend of mine is using Canon while I'm on Nikon and I've always preferred the image from the Nikon. But his pretty old and really cheap camera can still do decent video autofocus, which Nikon only recently caught up to with the Z9 and the cameras that followed it. I'm really happy that there is finally something for me to actually want to upgrade to from my D5300.
I have decided the D5300 is an anomaly. Nikon released it as one of the first crop sensor cameras with Expeed 4 and no AA filtration on the sensor. They swung for the fences, and at the time, hit it out of the park. Having worked with later versions the D5500/5600, D3400/3500 it seems like those were de-tuned a bit and not performing in low light in the same league that the D5300 and D7200 could. After 10 years I still use my D5300 regularly and don't feel like it's image making ability is in any way second rate even compared to much newer cameras I have from Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm. Yes of course there are different limits, but when I regularly used Canon cameras at work, each generation was a little different and not always better, but there was never a time I have ever thought, "Yanno, I really miss the images that (insert earlier model) gave us. What really ticks off some of the people I work with covering events is indoor dinners and receptions. When we have to cover groups at tables and use flash. My lowly D5300 makes it a trivial act while my mirrorless friends are fighting with getting a focus lock in candle light and these systems regularly throw erratic flash exposure. It's all about use case, but it's been a trouper and still remains that front seat travel companion because the size and weight are so handy. I keep hoping we get a Z50ii or similar in the near future that embodies most of the spirit of the D5300. The Z5 is solid, and I use it more now than the D5300, but it's still a bigger and heavier camera, and a full frame sensor brings its own downsides.
@@OriginalWatchcow Yeah, as you said there are professional use cases where a Z6 III won't really be any better than a D5300. My problem with many of the Z6iii test is that they seem to focus on balls and photos. I'm really curious how this handles fast moving backgrounds in video mode, and what the differences are between the different video modes for rolling shutter. Like will it have better or worse readout speeds at 4K oversampled vs 6K RAW vs 1080p slow motion. I shoot a lot of motorsport and will my trees look like jelly is my concern.

Sony A6000 A7iii has a subject register function that sticks to the subject. Jared’s claim that Canon and Sony autofocus are superior to Nikon is in that particular situation. Nikon z has been the most editable of the 2020’s mirrorless stuff. I wanted to love the rf stuff but its just not as clean as the z5, z6, etc. i cant imagine how much better the iii will perform
Hello, Jared... Yesterday, I tried comparing the z6iii and z8 side by side. Wondering If a 24MP sensor can produce a raw file that is near about 27MB in size, how can a 46MP sensor of z8 can make raw files that are nearly the same size? I would like to know your thoughts on lossless compressed files. Having previously used a D850, these issues are confusing me about whether to purchase a Nikon system.
Lossless compression means that the files get smaller but you don’t lose image quality. I used it with D810 and I could not see any difference from uncompressed files.
Do you think this electronic shutter/ readout speed of the partially stacked sensor is sufficient to remove the mechanical shutter entirely? (like the cameras with fully stacked sensors have done?)
this camera has already received a lot of criticism for its low dynamic range, which forces more lightening of shadows and significantly more noise. Tony pointed out the Z6 III is much worse than the Z6 II in this. The worst are the corners of the images, where the automatic vignetting correction of light lenses brightens the image a lot before the shadows are generally lightened... The Sony a9 III also has low DR and higher noise, but it has a global sensor, so this is an extreme solution. Nikon cannot defend this against the competition with "only" a folded sensor.
Well summarized. EVERY more or less recent camera today has such noise bevaviour. (Rolling Shutter) Own addition: The rolling shutter nuances are probably not important anyway, unless your photos belong to the 0.001% of photos displaying someone hitting a baseball. Or, outside of the US: 0.000% of photos, when rounded up generously 😉 (Noise Reduction) 😱 Regarding noise, a head-scratcher is though, that noise reduction has been applied: at least, the color noise has been removed completely. Hopefully this is not a cheating route taken by Nikon to conceal semi-stacked sensor weaknesses. Hopefully this was just the RAW converter's default denoising settings left on its defaults (accidentally). They all remove a lot of chromatic noise by default, because nobody likes chromatic noise, and nobody wants to keep it. If and how much luminance noise (=grainy noise) is removed as well by default, we don't know, until tested e.g. by DPReview, or by a lab (DxO or PhotonsToPhotos).
@@TH-camr-ku4nk WHAT? In Denmark, they play with ROUND balls? 😱 I thought the cubic balls would have been much popular there as well as everywhere else ⬛🙂

The Z6III has been on shelves for a week, so why does Nikon still have a lock on your raw files? My favorite thing about Nikon digital files, at least since the D3/D700, is that the camera jpegs can generally be delivered. Even with team uniforms, where players would notice if the image did not match the actual jersey colors.
Tony, I cant believe you ever make a photo 6 stops under exposed and then tried to recover it. Aphoto from a photo, how unreal can you get. The Z6III is a semi pro camera, people buying should know how to take a decently exposed photo, if not you should send them your book. Your test is not what I have experienced with this camera.
what do you mean? Is your question: when is the next Sony A7 iteration due, which then will probably overshadow the Z6III? The old A7 IV of 2021 is already 3 years old. If we assume a 4 years cycle, then the A7 V is due already in 2025. So, unless someone is already bound to Z due to lens investments, then it would be advisable to wait until just next year.
Had a Z8 and hated the way the noise was rendered at 4000 ISO or higher - it looked like swirls that were hard to get rid of in post. Returned the system. Maybe Nikon improved with the Z6iii and its processing.

If the performance of the camera stands up to your rigorous evaluation, that is certainly saying something. Got to look at my wallet!
Please compare the blackout mechanical shutter 14fps vs electrical shutter 20fps. Also would be nice to see comparison to z9/z8.
I am curious about the difference between ZF files and Z6iii files. I bet Z6iii's regular autofocus is good enough, but how subject tracking among crowded people or things are good or not good? Sony A6000 A7iii has a subject register function that sticks to the subject. Jared’s claim that Canon and Sony autofocus are superior to Nikon is in that particular situation. Ballet or Volleyball photographers are dying to have that function on Nikon.
What a camera! Really hoping Sony can compete with this on their next A7 V. Otherwise I’ll be switching.
Sony is just waiting on everyone to drop there cameras including Canon. Can will set the bar on 7/14/24 and it's up to Sony to jump ahead.
I'm glad the partially stacked sensor seems to work well for sports. However, im more intetested to learn how it handles banding in a concert setting.
surely, it's a very promising camera!!! Thx for the vid
Just got mine yesterday but am questioning my decision as I planned on doing the trade-up but not sure if I really need to up grade given I'm only an amateur shooter but was looking to get better auto ficus vs the Z6ii.
Great test ! Thanks !
Wow! Thanks Jared. This is awesome ❤
The photos look mega! Dare I say it very-VERY-close to looking like old 35mm film photos?!?!?! Nikon really have raised the bar with their mirrorless cameras, and thats coming from someone who really didnt want the change from DSLR to mirrorless. I Recently sold my D850 and all my kit and bought the Z8 and several Z lenses. Other than when I bought the Nikon D80 back in 2006 its the only camera I've bought that I instantly loved.
Vahagan can’t complain now 😉
😂
Vahagan is a psycho, he needs mental help...SMDH.
okay main question was it raining or not i see not white dots in photo of baseball player when show shutter in both modes
Rain
Nikon z has been the most editable of the 2020’s mirrorless stuff. I wanted to love the rf stuff but its just not as clean as the z5, z6, etc. i cant imagine how much better the iii will perform
Just used mine at a wedding for the first time yesterday. I absolutely love it!
I'm a wedding photographer also so I'm glad to hear about it.
I'm here for the wind tunnel test.
Big thanks for this comparison all it’s clear for me ❤
Hello, Jared...
The z8 compresses the raw files.
Lossless compression means that the files get smaller but you don’t lose image quality. I used it with D810 and I could not see any difference from uncompressed files.
For me, Z6iii is a perfect camera if the Z8 type flip mon add into Z6iii
How's the autofocus? is it on par with sony and cannon?
The fact that Jared has only 1.4M subscribers is shocking.... This man deserves atleast 10M for his quality content. 💪💪
Very interesting. Thanks 👍🏼
Hi Jared, first time posting but watched you for years, about to buy a new camera .. Sony or Nikon? Nikon Z6III or Z8, i appreciate your time
i had stopped using adobe to edit my photos and have seen a significant decrees in noise in raw files even at 800iso with my canon R62.
YOU are working with NEF ( RAW) files from your Nikon In Lightroom Classic but Lightroom doesn't work with NEF files . how to solve that??
Do you think this electronic shutter/ readout speed of the partially stacked sensor is sufficient to remove the mechanical shutter entirely? (like the cameras with fully stacked sensors have done?)
Readout is 1/67 with e-shutter. Fine for anything that isn't fast action (or flash), not fast enough to remove the mechanical shutter.
Ugggh, making me really want this camera…
Nikon rules!
Z6iii or R6ii for wildlife, which is best?
Z6 iii
I'll sure be keeping mine.
this camera has already received a lot of criticism for its low dynamic range, which forces more lightening of shadows and significantly more noise.
(Rolling Shutter)
Own addition: The rolling shutter nuances are probably not important anyway, unless your photos belong to the 0.001% of photos displaying someone hitting a baseball. Or, outside of the US: 0.000% of photos, when rounded up generously 😉
(Noise Reduction) 😱
Regarding noise, a head-scratcher is though, that noise reduction has been applied: at least, the color noise has been removed completely.
Outside of US you could find children playing the roundball (directly translated from danish), since it is in fact a children’s game 😂
@@TH-camr-ku4nk WHAT? In Denmark, they play with ROUND balls? 😱 I thought the cubic balls would have been much popular there as well as everywhere else ⬛🙂
Funnily enough, baseball is way bigger in Japan than the US.
❤❤ This is For You Teacher...
High ISO looks good!
Exactly the comparison info I was looking for, super helpful, thanks! 👏🏻 The Z6III is a must-have for me, just waiting for promos / sale price 😎👍🏻
I'm waiting for promos + sale price + wining lottery
why nikon aren't allowing the distribution of raw files at this point?
Was pre production Unit. This is the same with all manufactures.

@@tubularificationedThat‘s on Adobe. Lightroom automatically applies a tiny amount of color NR to every NEF file you import into it. But you can go to the develop tab and dial it back to 0.
Sony back to 3rd place ? (Iso + burst mode + price)
That great all done but some add up to 30 megapixels better for quality.
why are the baseball photos covered in some white dust?

What did you guys change for this video?! It looks different. Using the R5II instead of R5's now...?
Same setup as always: R5 with 50 1.2L. Just had to adjust colors more on this one since jared gets such a harsh color cast on his face from his screen when reviewing photos
@@stepheneckert4006 Ah, so no R5II, gotcha...wink wink. lol
It does look considerably different to me, I just couldn't quite put my finger on what though.
This was filmed before the public even had access or knew about the camera
What a great camera! Great review
Jared, do you shoot in Vivid mode? Your photos look super-saturated.
Nice video!
Breaking news :Robin Wong got an angry email from Panasonic after being critical on the Panasonic S9. Watch his video.
It's a good review now !
Waiting for a z6iii vs Sony a7m4 vs canon r6
Compare it with a7 m4
I've actually seen comparisons of the Z6 III being worse than the Z6 at higher ISO
and whats your impression
Grain and noise are different things. It’s the noise with digital cameras, not the grain. (Technically)
Wherenis the z6iii guide
I see comments downing the Z8 just because theres now a Z6iii. Either these people are shills or they have no idea how to handle a Z8.
Nice kamera. Den är man sugen på
It's nearly $5k in Australia. I can get an import z8 for a thousand bucks more. Pretty disappointing Nikon.
yaaay
Hey Sony when is then gonna be now!
what do you mean? Is your question: when is the next Sony A7 iteration due, which then will probably overshadow the Z6III?
The old A7 IV of 2021 is already 3 years old. If we assume a 4 years cycle, then the A7 V is due already in 2025.
So, unless someone is already bound to Z due to lens investments, then it would be advisable to wait until just next year.
Привет из России матушки 😉 Москва Марьино 👍 куда тебе переслать донат на новый фен! Пудель ты прикольный 😎
Those nails tho.. @ 2:54
Had a Z8 and hated the way the noise was rendered at 4000 ISO or higher - it looked like swirls that were hard to get rid of in post. Returned the system. Maybe Nikon improved with the Z6iii and its processing.
It's not a camera! It's a NIKON!🤘
