I definitely would've been taking some samples from under the surface where that quartz was coming through the green andosite rhyollite. Seems like it would be a promising contact zone.

pm s? Thanks for the reply,I have been frequently going to one gully that I did well drywashing in a spot, than moved Upstream didn't find at much of anything and it doesn't look like it's been worked been trying to scour the hillsides to see if it's leeching off there it's got me confused.. lately just been out nugget hunting with a new Minelab,it's very powerful found a tiny staple 6" deep.Still trying to find my first nugget from detecting.hopefully it's coming soon I just keep finding bullets and trash!🙄 There is some great looking shist quartz all around.

Very nice learning vid , thanks for posting , could you detect it with detector the heavy mineralized vein ?

My uncle found a spot here in Ohio, Hocking Hills. He found 3grams last year. He wont show anyone where though. He said it's coming right out of a spring he found.

At 1:51 there are two metallic silver looking spots on the sample I'm holding. That's the arsenopyrite.

So arsenal pyrite is the dark reddish part?

mcgator51 the video was pretty bad at showing it. The dark red is iron-stained quartz but there may be actual arsenopyrite in it as well. Arsenopyrite is silver metallic or it can look yellow/old brass -like if the sulfur coats it. If you take a look at my video titled "possible refractory ore" you'll see the arsenopyrite in the lefthand sample. I plan on doing a video very soon showing what to look for to spot arsenopyrite in a variety of host rock.

Gotcha I think. I've seen the fools gold stuff so would that be the same? Sounds like it is. You mentioned that the vein is on the South side of the andesite rhyolite, is that always the case regardless whether it is up or down hill.

No, fools gold is actually iron pyrite and has a more golden color. The shape of iron pyrite can be box-like with six sides or pyritohedral (taking its name from the pyrite) with 12 irregular sides.
There are three common types of sulfides I've encountered in gold prospecting in order of most to least important:
      1. Arsenopyrite that can hold up to 15,200 g/t gold or around 490 ounces per ton of gold
      2. Iron pyrite that can have up to about 132 g/t gold
      3. Chalcopyrite, up to 7.7 g/t
Chalcopyrite is pretty useless to gold prospectors, but it is the main ore of copper. Consequently large copper producers have gold recovery circuits in their processing facilities.
The thing about arsenopyrite, like I mentioned in the refractory ore video, is that it can kill you if you don't know how to process it. One of the reasons I think it's not really worked is that it gives no real visual indications of having gold in it and people think it is lead.
Somewhere in my .pdf library there's an article mentioning an arsenopyrite gold strike down in Mexico I want to say. Someone found some ore, crushed it, panned it, and got nothing. He tells someone back in town about coming across the "ajo" rocks that he thought was silver but had nada in them. That second person goes out, stakes a claim, gets it assayed, and makes some serious money out of the deal. That ore came in at 1700g/t or 50 ounces per ton, it was all invisible to the naked eye.

Some Great stuff. Learned a bunch from it. I've seen these out in the field but could never put it together. You mentioned the vein being on the South side; is that usually the case where it is?

The gold bearing mineralization areas are going to be at the contact zone with the country rock, in my type of gold deposit. Think of a chimney pushing through the surrounding rock that's already in place. The outside area/surface of the chimney is where there are pressure differentials and temperature differences that allow for the minerals to precipitate out of solution. It just happens to be in my case on that hill, the south side of the andesite outcrops show the most mineralization. Directionality of deposition is as variable as the rain, you only have to find it.

can you show an example how does gossan look from google satellite? or send me coordinate of an area that has gossan so i can get an idea how to detect gossan from google satellite?

    • @SaltwaterServr
      @SaltwaterServr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry hoss, but Google Earth doesn't have the resolution you need for finding an unexplored gossan. You need to be able to see rocks smaller than a tennis ball scattered around an area with good enough color differentiation to see what I'm showing you close up on video from my phone video. The best way is to go out to old mines and look around, learn the geology and what it looks like. What part of the world are you in?
