    📊 WHAT IS POWER BI?
    Power BI is a business analytics tool by Microsoft. It creates a working environment suited for normal users, meaning tasks such as data extraction, cleansing, analysis and storytelling; these are made easily-accessible to citizen-users, and extendable for technical users. At face value it provides visually-stunning, interactive dashboards, but it’s built on top of so much more.

    Hi Fernan,
    I just started a position where I need to maintain reports and dashboards that have been created already for previous colleagues. I didn't have a handover and I am just starting to use Power BI, and I have not been able to find the file(s)/data sets where the reports/dashboards get updated from. Do you happen to know how can I do that? TIA.

    can we able to schedule refresh when we use excel or CSV, in some cases we may need to remove the fields which is necessary in edit query, in this case do you think schedule refresh will work. The excel/csv which will not be standard format. I know it will work SQL since it is table with standard format.

    • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dyson, as long as the columns you're referencing in the report is in your CSV, your refreshes should not fail. Power BI can absorb and convert your CSV fields to standard format, so no worries.
      If your column names change you might need to do a bit of workaround, in case you need it, i cover it here: th-cam.com/video/g4MspcQRHHM/w-d-xo.html

      Hi, I came across this similar problem. I used Power Automate that triggers the task when the files in my sharepoint folder are modified, it then automatically refreshes the datasets in Power BI Service.
      1. I just chose the "When a file is created or modified" trigger in Power Automate for SharePoint.
      2. I provided the SharePoint site address, Document Library, and the specific folder
      3. I added the "Action" step, which is the "Refresh a dataset" for PowerBI
      4. I provided the Workspace and the specific dataset available in the options
      It worked and all that's left to do is manually refresh the visuals.
      My data sources are located in SharePoint folders. Maybe you can apply this in your case and just find the appropriate triggers available.

    • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Saeed, thanks for watching! Web sources should be OK to refresh automatically, as long as they're an online source that the Power BI service can reach
      If you're having a problem with a report you just published, make sure you check the data source credentials in Power BI service, sometimes this may be incorrect when you first publish reports

    • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Surendra, how big is your source? how long does the file take for you to open from the blob storage? There can be several things that could affect this, either the connectivity with Azure Blob Storage or Power BI, you'll need to investigate where the bottleneck is. If the source is too big, make it smaller, or if Blob takes too long it could be a bandwidth issue

    • @SolutionsAbroad

      Hi, if your SQL DB is in the cloud, you should be able to refresh it from Power BI Service (web browser).
      If your SQL is not in the cloud (on-premises) you need to install a Gateway which bridges your database to the report in the service (browser)
      You shouldn't have to refresh the report in Power BI Desktop first

      @@SolutionsAbroad Hi, thanks for your reply. The data source was in one drive for business. I have resolved now but the problem was that I did not have a gateway installed. Just a follow up question on this - if the refresh is being done in BI service, the dataset is in the service and the source data is in an on line service (such as sheets, OneDrive, SharePoint) why is an on-premise data gateway necessary? Seems odd but might be my lack of understanding

      @@XxStrawberrriesLovexX I had the same issue with web data in json format. The Data source Credential is disabled and this issue got fixed after I have gateway installed. Thank you for your comment here!

    I found the page where you can setup the Auto-Refresh but the checkboxes are disabled. My data source is MSSQL Database. How do you do this if you want to query/execute the script to refresh the data on a daily basis?

      Hey Gilbert, perhaps its because your SQL database in on premises? The PBI service needs to be able to connect to your source online for it to auto refresh your report. You'll need to set up a gateway in this case: th-cam.com/video/VLAdQKSY0yc/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Sir, Can I do an automatic refresh with Power BI Server?

      Yes of course! As long as your data source is accessible by your server (through Gateway, or internal network) it should work
