@@773418668 That's exactly the same level of development China had like 15 years ago. If it continues to grow fast it'll develop really fast. Walking through the Hood of Varanasi. Amazing how so much life, commerce, pedestrian and scooter traffic, including the cows and the dogs manage to successfully navigate those narrow corridors. But yet, it's something homey and comfortable about it all. I cannot explain it.
Those of us who are India die hards, keep returning to India in spite of the noise, pollution, over crowding, theft, bad food (Delhi belly) bad rooms and various rips offs because after all is said and done we come back from India with priceless experiences which cannot be found anywhere else. India has made me what I am today and anyone who has not been there cannot top it.
Then you are a true Indian at heart. I am of Indian ancestry but grew up in America. When I was in Varanasi I felt like I was in my true home. Yes, it's dirty and crowded, and there is a lot of poverty, but there is something about it you just can't put your finger on. Have you ever been to Punjab?
You are such a traveler, and quite fortunate. My family originally came from Punjab, but I have yet to go there. I only went to Rajasthan, Agra, and lived in Varanasi for a while. On my next trip I am hoping to go to the Golden Temple and a famous Hanuman temple in Pillaur, Punjab, Ayohdhia, then a long stay in Varanasi again. Though I grew up in the States, I feel like Varanasi is my true home. Well, each to his own, I guess. All the best to you!
I wouldn't want to be a woman in India. You talked in another comment about the lack of development in India. I think the treatment of women there is even worse than the economic problems. I am "lucky" that I am a man and can enjoy the good things India has to offer without being abused as a woman. But let me tell you a story. I am fair and am often confused as being a white person. When I was living in Varanasi, except for a few people such as the nice family I lived with, people assumed I was a rich tourist and they tried every way possible to scam me for my money. Many of them were quite abusive and even one tried to drag me forcibly into a hidden area near the smaller cremation ghat, probably to steal my money. I was having a very bad time quite often, and the only thing that calmed my spirits was watching a Punjabi station on the tv that showed Sikhs singing kirtan every night. No matter what bad times I had, however, I want to go back. The religious sites, the Ganges, the hustle and bustle of the city, the narrow lanes, the countless temple and shrines, all fascinated me. It's like heaven and hell at the same time. However, like I said, I do have the advantage of being a man and am immune to a lot of the abuses a woman has to go through.
Dear damn, son: No it's not wrong at all to point out the problems. The only way to improvement is to first acknowledge the need for a change. In fact, I think the more you love something or someone the more you will recognize their flaws and want to help them overcome them. Passionate feelings don't come from nowhere, and you obviously feel deeply about this. Poverty, lack of education, the culture of degrading women and lower castes (even though that is illegal it is still part of the Hindu mind) and religious conflict are still deeply ingrained in India. In Varanasi too there is a lot of poverty. People there kept saying to me that in America money rules everything, but no one thinks more about money than someone who doesn't have it, and everybody I knew was obsessed with money because they had to scrounge every day for some. They are lucky tour companies for some reason convince their clients to visit Varanasi for some god only known reason and they bring their tourist money there, because I have no idea what other industry or source of income the people of Varanasi have. Well, they have the other Indians who go there in pilgrimage, and there are a lot of those. Please don't flame me for saying this, but I thought Modi was going to make a difference, and even though he has been making trade deals with other countries, he and the BJP look to me to be facist and pushing the Hindu agenda, just another reinforcement of India's social and cultural backwarness. I recently saw a flyer for "Clean Ganga" which had Modi claiming how important Ganga Ma is for all Indians, how she is bound up with their history. Well, maybe it is for Hindus, but Hindus make up only 80 something percent of India. What about the other 20 percent--they're not Indians if they don't worship Ganga?

I will still travel through India one day, and I will definitely visit Varanasi. but it seems very confusing to walk through the narrow streets, especially if I were alone haha India is fascinating! a hug from Brazil.
India is such a beautiful place, One of the Seven Wonders of the World The Taj Mahal Although that India was oppressed by Britain for many centuries they never lost their culture, customs and traditions , neither their dignity. And is becoming now one of the big nations of the world again. VIVA LA INDIA
I don't share your optimism. What I see looks too lost to improve. I've worked with brilliant Indian programmers, know they are hard working and dedicated, so this is not to denigrate Indians (or any other group); however such enormous spreads of people and deterioration can't be undone, short of s major global catastrophe. Not in several centuries. Not with populations continuing to grow.
Have you seen the mega kitchens of India (on utube), and what they've done with solar capture to generate the steam to cook for up to 40,000 people EACH day? In one place they can cook for up to 60,000, so I read. That was in Amritstan. At the Golden Temple. You've probably been there.
Good video will be so nice to visit those places just for curiosity will be so nice to encourage the people to clean their places so tourist will go shopping around their neighborhood.
I have been to Varanasi... saw the Arti on the Gange river it was so beautiful. I believe they do it nightly. I loved my time there! Awesome video..allows us to see the life there as if we are walking thru ...you showed me more of it than I saw!
Even my tricycle man got lost and spent so much time looking for my Hotel. He sweated and cycled for maybe 60 mins or more kept asking for directions ......we got there ... I slipped him INR 1000 it made his day. ....the smile was worth it .. Wonderful back alleys to get lost in. And the Ganga at dawn magical
I LOVE Varanasi. I lived there for a while and was completely heartbroken when I had to leave it. I will go back someday! I had to see a kind doctor every day for a foot problem, and he talked about how holy Varanasi is, he said even the dirt is holy. Good thing, because there is a lot of it! My favorite spot was the temple on Kedar Ghat, then Sankat Mochan temple. If you go, though, beware of the tauts and godmen! LOL!
World's largest democracy. Pop.1.2Billion. Excellent example of how so many live amicably without stepping on each other's toes. Narrow streets, neverending pedestrians dodge cows rickshaws and men carrying massive cardboard boxes in narrow lanes between buildings. This nation is self sufficient in food. Marvellous. Benares is the fabled city or township repeatedly mentioned in Burmese Text Books. Every story started, "Once upon a time, in Benares....." The Burmese people referred to it as BarYarNaTee Pyi. ***********Makes me appreciate where I live so much more. Perth, Western Australia.THANK YOU kees Colijn for superb Video. ((It's as if I was there but without the heat and dust)) So Professionally taken. I have good music playing to subdue the beeping horns.
amazing how well tempered the people are also...when you don't have American television to pollute peoples minds with every kind of bad behavior...see the difference.
World's largest open air toilet. Terrible example of backward, psychotic, primitive religious belifs. A rigid social structure based on a strict caste system and modern day slavery. That's India...
I've been there. India is such an incredible place. It's almost out of this world. Hard to explain. Don't know why. Anyway there are some annoyances: The traffic, the chaos! Well this is also part of the allure, but after a while... you're like: "it would be nice to walk around without horn honks!" I wonder when and indian person goes to, I don't know Switzerland, and notices no horn honks if they have a similar ( opposite) effect as I did when I was there.
Before I was in India for the first time I always asked, why are they always honking? Now I ask myself , when will I hear it again 😁 Next year I am going to India again, it's such an amazing country ❤️❤️❤️
Well, I must say that if you don't honk you're going to suffer an accident soon. The narrow lanes, the great bustle and heavy influx of transports just makes driving uncertain. You need to honk to make sure that the guy entering from nearby lane knows you are passing by
Gostei muito da índia, eles parecem um povo simples. ♥️ Eles respeitam os animais. Os animais andam livres pelas ruas como se fossem gente.👏😁😁💞🇧🇷💞🇧🇷💞🇧🇷
So many people from India travel abroad and yet basic ideas, like footpaths and lines in the middle of the road that would make walking safer and simpler for everyone have not been adopted. I’m travelling there next year and I can’t wait.
I got d answer fo how d vedeo is so steady.... THANQ SOO MUCH KEES FO DIS AWESOME VEDEO....Dis place is too conjusted because of d narrow streets... its visited by many thousands of piligrims each day, from all corners of d country ,jus to hav a look, ,which is wellknown from centuries immemorial fo d main deity KASHI VISHWANATH.[prominant Hindu god].. THANX again an alld best fo ur upcoming vedeos.
This was a very nice video. I am a big fan of Google Earth but it doesn’t have street view for any of the cities of India. This has made my day. Almost the next best thing besides being there. I really enjoyed it.
All you missed were the smells and the feel of the moist air on your skin. Plus, in the Old City there are trillions of temples which I didn't see in the video.
I love the cows in the roads, I've seen them napping in the fast lane on busy streets and the auto rickshaws just zoom around them barely missing them.
Amazing video. So Narrow lanes . Poor people, lots of stray dogs a few cows roaming about. Looks like no one believes in sweeping or cleaning . I thought India was a developing country . But everything seems to be on a standstill . Best wishes from UK 🇬🇧
Your videos are amazing! In this time of Covid pandemic, when we are not able to travel due to the restrictions, your walks give a chance to explore the streets of distant contries. Thank you🧡

Hi Kees. Another great insight. I have come to the conclusion you must be built like a stick to squeeze by in so many small gaps. Good Job. Take care..
The voting negatively should he wield a camera stabilizer and to go walk for an hour through the streets to share with everyone selflessly and experience may well change your mind, go ahead Kees, do not listen to the envious and move on, I love your videos and make me better understand the world in which I live
This for me is photographers heaven! Just watching this video and imagining I’m there, I’ve probably taken a thousand pictures in one day. If I ever make it there, I’ll need plenty of batteries and SD cards! Amazing video! 😎✌🏽
those who r commenting that india is polluted etc..etc.. they dont know how we r rich in culture. many pepole come from different parts of the world and they setteled in india, only because of peace and harmony. but an indian or any other part of the country people go to other country mainly bcz of money and other things... but we are so proud, we welcome all kind of people irrespective of colour,sex,caste.. we share our love... if u r feeling lonely and leading life with full of fake people .... come to india ... we are with u.... if u think that he is an indian, thats y he is prouding his country..... no way .... if u live in india for some days, u will feel the same .... before leaving india.. that made u to cry and the tears are not from u r eyes .. its from u r soul ... we r happy with what we have ...... ....... u will surely feel the same what i said.. cleaness is part of our life ...but happy soul is the part of our body.. choose what u want...
This is like a psychology image test. A Psychologist shows you an image and asks what do you see first. There is beautiful order and balance behind all this chaos and noise.

Fantastic real filling.
I will still travel through India one day, and I will definitely visit Varanasi. but it seems very confusing to walk through the narrow streets, especially if I were alone haha India is fascinating! a hug from Brazil.
place has really changed as this is an old video

@@babuumangsingh5221 greetings, bro! 🙂
Thank you for your adventure's Video , the images very good .
Amritsar
Good video will be so nice to visit those places just for curiosity will be so nice to encourage the people to clean their places so tourist will go shopping around their neighborhood.
i'm indian and after watching your video i knew how beautifull my country
I have been to Varanasi... saw the Arti on the Gange river it was so beautiful. I believe they do it nightly. I loved my time there! Awesome video..allows us to see the life there as if we are walking thru ...you showed me more of it than I saw!

LOL!
Varanasi has changed lot.
Now Varanasi is much cleaner than before

So surrealistic...Pretty clean looking streets or alleyways. Remember M.Twain said Benares is older than history.
thanks for show me the world like it really is.i have seen all you videos and i love them .
Thank you for the awesome work! Lovely video and good images like if I was there.
Thankyou this has made my day. One of my favourite cities. Cant wait to go back.
Brilliant walkthrough. Amazing street scenes so well filmed. Thanks.
I was walking on same streets and Ghats 3 years ago, great memories and amazing city...totally different than the rest of the world
World's largest democracy.

Yes. The beast of burden is man and women, as well as what we might call animals (for clarification).
amazing how well tempered the people are also...when you don't have American television to pollute peoples minds with every kind of bad behavior...see the difference.
he, ik vint het echt te gek wat je doet

World's largest open air toilet. Terrible example of backward, psychotic, primitive religious belifs. A rigid social structure based on a strict caste system and modern day slavery. That's India...
Este video me transportó a conocer un poco de la india...Excelente
I like your videos. His work is very special to show the towns and people around the world. Thanks for sharing.
When the chaos becomes meditation it is then you have really experienced Varanasi.
I've been there. India is such an incredible place. It's almost out of this world. Hard to explain. Don't know why. Anyway there are some annoyances: The traffic, the chaos! Well this is also part of the allure, but after a while... you're like: "it would be nice to walk around without horn honks!"
I wonder when and indian person goes to, I don't know Switzerland, and notices no horn honks if they have a similar ( opposite) effect as I did when I was there.
I always wonder that too.
Впечатляющая прогулка !!! Иная форма жизни. Спасибо за видео.
I would never live in such place. But even so i have a feeling of nostalgia when i watch it.
You need to honk to make sure that the guy entering from nearby lane knows you are passing by
Somr
Watched this last night with my friend Paul. I love Varanasi and know it well. Paul has never been . But we both loved your film. Thank you.
This is 8 years old footage
So many people from India travel abroad and yet basic ideas, like footpaths and lines in the middle of the road that would make walking safer and simpler for everyone have not been adopted. I’m travelling there next year and I can’t wait.
I love india ~ I love varanasi
why because of noise pollution?

You are always welcome ❤️❤️
Great video...love the Indian culture.
I always love a trip walking down the street like this. Thanks Mr/Ms Keezi
Phenomenal video. Well done. What a place to travel to!
I love the cows in the roads, I've seen them napping in the fast lane on busy streets and the auto rickshaws just zoom around them barely missing them.
That place is so freaking awesome, man....:-)
Amazing video. So Narrow lanes . Poor people, lots of stray dogs a few cows roaming about. Looks like no one believes in sweeping or cleaning . I thought India was a developing country . But everything seems to be on a standstill . Best wishes from UK 🇬🇧

Hi Kees. Another great insight. I have come to the conclusion you must be built like a stick to squeeze by in so many small gaps. Good Job. Take care..
My take is that the lens forshortens space. He has a bit more room than it appears.
So crowded, Varanasi is also so beautiful

those who r commenting that india is polluted etc..etc.. they dont know how we r rich in culture. many pepole come from different parts of the world and they setteled in india, only because of peace and harmony. but an indian or any other part of the country people go to other country mainly bcz of money and other things... but we are so proud, we welcome all kind of people irrespective of colour,sex,caste.. we share our love... if u r feeling lonely and leading life with full of fake people .... come to india ... we are with u.... if u think that he is an indian, thats y he is prouding his country..... no way .... if u live in india for some days, u will feel the same .... before leaving india.. that made u to cry and the tears are not from u r eyes .. its from u r soul ... we r happy with what we have ...... ....... u will surely feel the same what i said.. cleaness is part of our life ...but happy soul is the part of our body.. choose what u want...

This is like a psychology image test. A Psychologist shows you an image and asks what do you see first. There is beautiful order and balance behind all this chaos and noise.
CHOOTIA
there is no order. I see a ruined civilization
In this "order and balance" everything is more difficult to do and takes longer to do. Not very efficient system at all.
Right! I see both...
