💀 💕 / 4⃣ I don't know how the Japanese music industry is set up, but I like the idea that Yui and Moa could get royalties whenever this song is broadcast, etc. : ) They have official credits for the lyrics and music for this song, with an arrangement by tatsuo (Tatsuo Kinno) and KxBxMETAL (Kei Kobayashi). As others have pointed out, the song is about the number four. In Japanese, 4 is "shi" which sounds like the word for death and it is often considered unlucky. 4 can also be "yon". This song talks about positive things that sound like the words for 4. Examples include Bitamin no shi ("4" is for "vitamin C") and Oishii no shi. ("4" is for "delicious".) Some very cute touches in the choreography where the shape of the number four is formed with arm and leg positions. Yui and Moa made up this song during the Singapore 2013 tour, and repeated it over and over again to the point that staff complained about it. Su suggested the theme of "4" as a challenge to Yui and Moa after they successfully made up songs on the themes of "banana" and "wood". BTW, "4 No Uta" is three words, not two. It means "Song of 4". "No" is pronounced like the English word "no", and means "of" or "for". "Uta" is pronounced like "ootah" and means "song".
Hell yes! haha. The lyrics to this song are very intelligently put together, especially considering that they were written by Yui and Moa when they were at such a young age. They are poking fun at the Japanese superstition around the number 4 (Shi), which is the same pronunciation as death. They are stating that there are so many other positive words with "shi" in it that there is no reason to have that stigma. Awesome. 🤘🦊
Great reaction, thanks! "Yon no uta" (Song of 4) was written by Yui and Moa during a bus trip in Singapore as a challenge placed by Su (they have full credits for the lyrics and the music as Black BABYMETAL). Keep in mind that the number 4 is a bad luck number in Asia, like our 13 (or 17 in some countries) but even worse. The reason is that one way to read the number 4 is "shi" and it sounds like "死" (death). The alternative form is "yon". They sang it so much during that trip that the staff complained about it. But Koba took it and made a new song, arranging it himself alongside Tatsuo. So, here we have Black BABYMETAL making a better society by taking down the superstition with some clever plays on words as they mention several words which contains the same sound of "shi" like happiness, delicious, joy or vitamin C. 😁 Until next time! 🤘🦊
_Yon Yon!_ Welcome back to the Foxhole 🦊🤘🔥 Another Black Babymetal song and 2 more to go. MoiMoi (Moa + Yui) coming back with their own exclusive song and kawaii overload. 4 No Uta (or "Song 4") is another Black Babymetal song and is a challenge to our girls and giving another social reform message, this time trying to stop with the superstition around the number 4.👀 "4" got two ways of pronounce in Japanese, _shi_ is the right way, but that word is also similar to "die", that's why they use _yon,_ the other way, 4 or "shi" is associated with bad luck, similar to number 13 for some westerners. Our girls here are trying to teaching us in a funny song and choreo that the _shi_ isn't always related to bad things. Always love that reggae breakdown reaction, unexpected, especially over that Metallica - Master Of Puppets riffs, so cool. Oh btw this song got the credits over YuiMetal and MoaMetal. Until "Divine Attack- Shingeki" with SuMetal lyrics credits last year, this was the only song with them on the credits, the funny story is while traveling on the bus at live tour in Singapore, SuMetal challenge the girls to do a song with this theme, they were singing this all the time that even the stuff members got stuck with that in their head, the rest is story, is a super engaging song with great crowd participation and who don't wanna do that with our lovely girls? Of course this song was one of the girls favorites back then. Another great live at Budokan 2014 version and once again with the help of sister-bones. This also got a MoaMetal solo version live at Legend S 2017, that was the sudden first live concert without YuiMetal. There's also another unique version called Song 4 (444 Ver.) with lines from the girls in the reggae section. You can find Onedari Daisakusen live at Legend 1997 safe to react at Gans Tomas without any filters, and Sis Anger under the title "Angry Sis" at BMRR (Reactor Resource). Uki Uki Midnight live at Budokan 2014 is another great version for your next reaction. Finally, you're very much welcome to celebrate unofficially Yon Yon Day (April 4) every year after official Fox Day (April 1). Yon Yon! Btw summer sonic official release the live proshot version of METALI!! so go check it out and share with us if you can, there's also a short interview in another clip. See you next time and kitsune up 🦊🤘🔥
Great reaction. 🤘🦊🤘The extra dancers were called SisterBones. '4 No Uta' ('Song 4' or perhaps more accurately 'Song of 4') is great fun. There are several puns and plays on words that we just don't get in English and they are really what the song is about. There are two counting systems in Japan - 4 is yon in one of them (so everybody was singing along with the "Yon Yon" chants of course), it is shi in the other. Shi also means 'to die' or death and as a result 4 (shi) is considered unlucky and it is avoided (even more than 13 is avoided in the west). What they were doing (apart from giving us lessons in counting) was listing words that also contain 'shi' (eg Bitamin no shi - vitamin C) and saying they don't mean to die, so neither does 4 and it is just a silly superstition. The choreo was also quite clever - apart from holding up 4 fingers they were making the figure 4 with their arms and with their legs at various points and in end poses etc. Also holding their fingers to their lips like we would to say "shhh" - in Japan shhh is ... "shi". Full writing credits for '4 No Uta' (lyrics and music - not the arrangement) are given to Black BABYMETAL (Yui and Moa). They were challenged by Su to write a song about the number 4 while on the tour bus in Singapore when they were 12. They then drove the staff mad running round singing it non stop, so much so the staff complained about them. So of course Koba turned it into a song for Black BABYMETAL and it was on the first album. Their songs about banana and wood have never been heard sadly.
*YEEEESSSSSSS* my dream finally come true, Emp react to the most adorable song of *Babymetal* ever created. Iam here for YUI ❤❤❤ the girl who made in heaven, and for Emp's reaction too. Love you Emp ❤
May I add to the proliferation of "4". The song is in 4/4 time and the snare count is 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2-3-4 (yon, yon), there are 4 Kami Band members and 4 Sister Bones dancers.
This is a showcase for Yui. You can tell at the end Moa is sucking air and is a half-step to step behind Yui, who looks like she's just getting started even after bouncing around for 10 minutes.
👍 👍 Well done. Can you just imagine the hard work, dedication, discipline and talent it took for two young girls to pull this off in front of a packed Budokan Arena? I am in awe.

Who knew we needed a 6 minute kawaii metal lesson on the number 4? Everlasting thanks to Yui and Moa!!

I love being blindsided. 😂😂
This song is so mind bending that I try to avoid it at all cost. I can only do it like once a year 😂😂 Yui and Moa are so freaking awesome lol
