Just an idea for you: When it comes time to fill and run the pumps for the first time, you should set up multiple cameras around the park at the interesting parts of the system, then sync them up in editing so we can see different parts and attraction come to life as the pumps are turned on and dirt is filtered out! So the river only feeds the mat racer attraction. There are other water parks that use the water from one body of water for all attractions. This can cause many issues. Dirt and some junk can go through the grates. Larger items are caught and picked up by hand.

We receive and return water back to the municipality via domestic and sanitary respectively. Because of the volumes of water we have, source water is not typically needing pretreatment, as the dilution is minimal.
When you drain the lazy river or wave pool where do you store the water? Or does the water get discharged back into nature? In my head it would be too expensive to just dump water so I’m curious.
So seeing that these two attractions are combined, i would assume both would have to be shut down if some sort of bodily waste was introduced into the system (blood, vomit, feces) whats the process behind dealing with situations like that?
I will have you know that the pump houses on the lazy rivers that I engender are twice as large and provide ample flow. Plus your leaf skimmer is t big enough.

Does the surge pit have a sensor to shut off the pumps if the water level gets too low? To avoid pulling air into the system
They don't, the chances of this happening are slim to none as the drains must be controlled by hand.
Does all the water pass through a filter before being returned to the pool/attraction? And, if it doesn’t, does the filter line feed back into the surge pit, or does it return to the pool?
Returns to the pool, but this is theoretically minimal.

At the end of the operating day, which areas store the water? How much deeper does it make those areas?
The pools themselves are typically the storage areas. The water really doesnt go anywhere, just gravity fills the surge pits.
