StarCraft 2: EPIC MATCH - Clem vs Dark! (Best-of-7)

  • Epic match of professional StarCraft 2 between Clem and Dark. In this best-of-7 series from the TSL 7 we watch two top level pro gamers fight it out in some very clever games. Clem doesn't really lose Terran versus Zerg in Europe anymore, but Dark plays a Korean version of ZvT that's different than what Clem is used to.

    • @keamu8580
      @keamu8580 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It really makes clear how little work it really takes Zerg to win by just trading poorly over and over and leveraging their abundance of cheap units and fast production via injected hatcheries. As we saw in this zeries, a bunch of ling bane running in along with the main attack and there's just nothing any Terran unit composition can do to make a dent in the horde of cannon fodder before the Ravagers or casters can get in position to doom the Terran's expensive units with Bile, Fungal Growth, Parasitic Bomb, or just a bunch of Banelings. There's no real position or setup that gives Terran a way to intercept this flood or trade well against it, I would argue that the Siege Tanks were a waste of money throughout most of this series and that the Widow Mines typically killed more Terran units than zerg. Clem definitely spends too much time retreating instead of shooting, but if he stood his ground he would just get recycled by the high DPS of upgraded ling bane with the only difference being a few more of those killed before the entire Terran army died. There are so many comments complimenting Dark, don't people realize he's using the same tactic in basically every situation and Terran has no answer to it other than stationary turtling with a dozen or more tanks? You have to move out on the map to win the game and the mobility of mass zerglings makes it too too easy to punish when Terran is out of position.

    This was a great cast!
    In response to your question about mental stamina, I've found that mine has actually increased as I've gotten older, but I've also lost my appetite for expending it. In other words, I've learned how to focus on tasks better and avoid distractions, and I'm less mentally drained at the end of the day, but part of that comes from my understanding of what actually IS mentally draining and avoiding those tasks unless absolutely necessary.
    I think that professional gamers reach an age where they just feel like there are easier ways to make money than playing really difficult, very stressful video games for a living. We only see them in tournaments, but literally hundreds of hours of practice goes into a tournament showing. Compare that to my job as someone who owns an IT project management company: I'm pretty much done with the most time-intensive parts of my education and training. The vast majority of my time is spent on productive tasks that directly make me money. My earnings are likely pretty similar to what all but the very best Starcraft 2 professional gamers make, but with a fraction of the expended effort.
    Anecdotal evidence: I once was an executive at a small company that had a former professional gamer on staff (Halo 2 and 3). He shifted into IT around the age of 26 because he had used his tournament winnings (about $350k in total over 5 years) and sponsorship earning (he never told me how much that was) to buy a house and secure a stable life for himself and his wife, and now he just wanted a "regular life" with his family. It's true that he made less money, but he also spent dramatically less time working. This gave him the mental and emotional bandwidth to raise a family and enjoy life.
    The only "professional gaming" role he still had was a shoutcast tournaments. He said it was like free money: you show up with minimal preparation, have fun casting games you would watch anyway, and get paid for your trouble. People loved him and it was good additional revenue. Maybe you can relate!
    Edit: when I play Zerg vs. Terran, I just stick on Ling/Bane. Terran splash damage is terrible and I can usually use it to kill their own units. That last game is indicative of how I play because it doesn't take a lot of micro: lots of A-move Zerglings with Infestors and Banelings to support them, basically. It allows me to use my leftover APM, which is really quite low, to just keep macroing behind it while staying aggressive.

    54:00 this is what we saw from AlphaStar, how it played unpredictably and weirdly, no solid "build order".
    Human beings are the evolutionary proof that adaptability is king in a competitive environment.
    We just havent had 10 million years of Starcraft e-sports to discover that yet. So it starts with rigid build orders and "rules" for what is "best" to do. But then eventually it opens up as people realize the value of adaptability and unpredictability.

    MORE! MORE! That was epic! As a Terran player, I sympathize with Clem. Terran players typically like order, we’re not keen on chaos. How Dark was playing though? That was chaos at it’s finest. I believe that was how Blizzard envisioned Zerg to be played: Swarmy and chaotic. It’s hard to anticipate anything when your opponent doesn’t follow any procedure or standards.

    Are zerg players really fine with queens being such an all purpose unit? I mean, it was intended to be a defensive unit that helped with production and creep, but now if you can work around their lack of speed, they can do pretty much everything. They're tanky, deal good damage (both air and ground), can be a frontline or a backline all the while healing everything. You don't use queens to support either your base or you army, you use your army to support your queens.
    Meanwhile ultralisks are utter garbage
    I'm really curious about it

    • @chrismatic3789
      @chrismatic3789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zerg players are using their earlygame kit more since their lategame kit got nerfed. Lowko has talked a lot about how bad Zerg's AA is (worst AA out of all the races even before they lost infested terrans). Think about countering hellions and hellbats, units that counter swarms of low HP units. Your options in the early game are roaches, spine crawlers, or queens. Two of those things can't shoot up. Theoretically ravagers are AA units but since fungal is no longer a hard lockdown, there's no realistic way to bile air units if your opponent is looking at them.
      They can't nerf queen's health or battlecruisers become unstoppable (think about how easily they mulch hydras). They can't nerf queen's range or liberators become a problem (medivacs too at the pro level). They can't nerf queen's damage or early game protoss air harrass will become too powerful. They already vastly nerfed the burst heal on transfuse, they nerfed creep tumors of all things, inject is the zerg macro mechanic so obviously nerfing it would just lower the skill ceiling. Queens are one of those knife's edge units where a slight buff/nerf could wildly unbalance one of zergs' early or mid game matchups.

    • @glowyboi7175
      @glowyboi7175 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if you nerfed Queens you would positively have to buff another early game unit to maintain balance, but buffing an actual combat unit would break the game, with much more devastating all-ins.

    Lowko, official olde man... Stopped playing at 54, only 4 years ago. Even with never missing an SCV, control group all buildings, great timing, great scout, the APM was dropping to about 70, the Micro was lost altogether. Stll love the game, loved the original too. Back in the day used buildings to block Ramps due to the fast Zerglings... The ability to actually move my hands, and hit the keys even in 'grid' setup was no longer natural, I was looking at my hand. Bronze League Heros on steriods... so I watch!
